Editorial Reviews Born in Chongqing, China, Li has already shown his affectionate regard toward music in early childhood. He studied the piano at the age of seven, receiving formal training from Professor Dan Zhaoyi. Under the enlightenment of Professor Dan, Li's piano techniques improved by leaps and bounds. He made himself conspicuous by winning numerous awards at home and abroad within the past 7 years. Li is the prize winner at International Piano Competitions: Stravinsky(U.S.A), 1995; F.Lizst(the Netherlands),1999; G.Bachauer(U.S.A.), 1999, to name a few. This live recording covers almost all the Li's performance during the 14th Chopin Piano Competition from Oct 4 to 22,2000 in Warsaw. Proven by perfect understanding of Chopin's music with his poetic style, Li displayed the most graceful sound and perfect skills in his mastery of Chopin's works. This live recording has captured such a memorable moment and allowd us to witness again the glorious achievement of Yundi Li. Bonus tracks of Chopin's piano concerto No. 2 played by the second prize winner, Ingrid Fliter is also include in the album.

With the absence of the first prize winner in the past two occasions, enormous attention was drawn to the 14th Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw in Oct 2000. Yundi Li, whose splendid performance enchanted the panel of judges that comprised of some of the finest pianists in the world, surpassed all other candidates from 25 countries and won the First Prize of that prestigious competition - a first time for the event in 15 years - as well as the Best Polonaise Performance. Li is also the youngest First Prize winner and the first Chinese winning such accolade in the 70-year history of the Chopin Piano Competition. Li's achievement has evoked strong repercussions all over the world.
