This is a convenient coupling. For some critics, these two works mark the point when Mozart turned from a master concerto composer to a great genius. No. 8 is still immature Mozart, however lovely, but with the innovations and expressiveness of No. 9 he touches our hearts. Evelyne Dubourg plays with beautiful piano tone and conveys the meaning of the music very effectively, with well-balanced support from the little orchestra. These performances aren't as touching as those from Mitsuko Uchida on the modern piano (Philips) or Malcolm Bilson on the fortepiano (Archiv). But if you want this coupling of concertos, this disc is good enough to be worth considering. --Leslie Gerber
