Most horn players will tell you that Dennis Brain, who died in a car accident at the age of 36, was the greatest of them all. But they shouldn't forget his father Aubrey, the greatest British horn player between the wars. The Mozart recording is a bit scrappy, with the Lener Quartet near the end of its career. But it's the only opportunity to hear the great father and son playing together. The Brahms Trio, with its extremely distinguished collaborators, is simply sublime, still one of that piece's greatest recordings. Sound quality on this budget-priced import is quite respectable for recordings of this period. --Leslie Gerber
