These two settings of Samuel Beckett texts by the experimental Swiss composer Holliger are perfect musical analogues to the great dramatist's works: harrowing and comic by turns. Holliger writes incisive, lyrical lines with a perfect mastery of the sonic potentials of his instrumental media--here, a chamber opera entitled Come and Go for nine female voices, flutes, clarinets, and violas, followed by What Where, for four voices, trombone quartet, and percussion.
