Sir Charles Mackerras hasn't made a bad record in his life, and he certainly doesn't start here. He's a particular authority in Czech music, having studied in Prague with the great Václav Talich himself. This, combined with his own innate musicality, is a virtual guarantee of superior results in Dvorák, and so it proves here. The coupling--the marvelous and unaccountably neglected Symphonic Variations--adds considerably to the attraction of this excellent disc. --David Hurwitz
