Except for Handel, who was German, we don't hear much music from 18th-century England's own composers. This well-sung and carefully chosen program helps to change that, offering choral and organ works by Maurice Greene, John Stanley, William Hayes, and William Boyce. Among these, Boyce was by far the most significant and talented--his "Turn thee unto me" is a small but notable masterpiece. --David Vernier
