Editorial Reviews
Donald McInnes, Professor of Viola, USC
Beautiful tone, excellent instrumental level, and most of all, an unusually clear understanding of the sylistic needs of the music
Album Description
This CD contains the beautiful works for viola and piano by William Flackton (1709-1793). These sonatas are important historically, as they are the first pieces for viola written in England! But more importantly, these pieces are absolutely beautiful! They are filled with great melodic and harmonic nuance, and are rich in texture. They show off the depth and beauty of the viola sound. This recording, featuring legendary violist Ronald Houston, is the only recording available of these heavenly works. The CD also contains the gorgeous Eccles Sonata for viola and some wonderful transcriptions by Bach and Handel.
