About the Artist
After playing around Atlanta for 10 years as a side man and in collaborative bands, Billy Gewin released his own CD in May of this year, blending elements of folk, pop, progressive rock and country, layering acoustic guitar, telecaster, organ, pedal steel and his warm-hearted tenor to bring listeners 11 tracks of clever, yet unpretentious melodies that are easy to sing along with and honest lyrics that are easy to relate to. Catchy and flowing, the often jazzy chord progressions are delivered with energetic, sometimes twangy, sometimes driven guitars reminiscent of XTC and the Byrds, while Billys vocals suggest influences such as Billy Bragg (perhaps a bit higher-pitched and with a mid-Atlantic accent), Sting, Andy Partridge and Elvis Costello. Though never androgynous, fans of Shawn Colvin may well find something familiar in Billys singing as well. Listeners will surely enjoy the six bonus tracks of extras, demos and hilarious outtakes.
