About the Artist
Joe Monahan grew up on Chicago's Southside, the eighth of nine children. He grew particularly fond of all acoustic music, particularly the singer/songwriter's that became popular in Chicago during the 1970s, such as John Prine, Michael Smith and Steve Goodman. In the early 1980s, Monahan discovered an area pub where traditional Irish music flourished. Some of the musician's at these pub "sessions" later became some of the most respected traditional musician's in their field. Amoung those were Liz Carroll, John Williams, Johnny McGreevy and session host Kevin Henry. Monahan soon took up the guitar and began to embrace the ballads he heard from other singer's and recording artists. Through the next 15 years Monahan played at pubs across the Chicago area, builing a loyal following in the process.
