About the Artist
Janet Humphrey and Mary Hartman have been described as the harmonious equivalent of peanut butter and jelly: distinctly different and perfectly complementary. Playing guitars, banjo and resophonic guitar, their original songs and intricate harmonies have been entrancing audiences across the northwest. Janet and Mary, both performers in their own right, joined forces in the mid 90's.
Album Description
"On Solid Ground" is the debut release of acoustic singer-songwriters Janet Humphrey and Mary Hartman, and it shines with tight harmony, strong imagery, and well-placed humor. Arrangements feature guitars and vocal harmonies, and are simple and not overly "produced" to showcase Janet and Mary's beautiful voices and down-to-earth songwriting. Some tracks include banjo, violin, piano, bass, and percussion. The songs range from a slow ballad of the Civil War ("Ballad of Green River") to the up-tempo, folk-pop "Everything But Joy." There is ample humor here, including the semi-autobiographical "Big-Footed Woman."
