Editorial Reviews Thus began a long and happy (if unexpected) musical career. At this time he studied composition with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco at the latter's home in Beverly Hills and attended master classes of Andres Segovia and Julian Bream as a performer. In 1966 Noad lauched the award winning TV series "Guitar with Frederick Noad" for PBS. The programs were enthusiastically received from coast to coast, and were credited with introducing 100,000 new players to the instrument. The currently running educational television series is a color remake of the original with the benefit of the latest electronic techniques. Fred Noad has been a faculty member of the University of California Institute of the Arts. He has performed as a soloist, as part of a duet team, in concert with a lyric tenor and also as a continuo player in early opera. In addition to the guitar he played the lute and theorbo. After his fathers death, in 1931, Fred grew up in Eversley a small rural village in Berkshire, England. He attended Eagle House Preparatory School, and was later accepted at Wellington College, where he received his diploma in Latin,... Series 2 is the second 12 lessons of "Guitar for Beginners" on CD. Originally presented on public television, this lesson series employs the latest split screen video techniques to show details of hand positions, music notes, tablature etc. Now with the advent of CD ROM movies, it is possible to play the lessons full screen on your computer. In addition, any part of the lesson can be quickly accessed for repetition with the simple mouse controls of Windows Media Player or Macintosh QuickTime. The easy play-along exercises make it a snap to learn music reading as well as guitar tablature and chord symbols. Printed manuals complete the learning package.
