About the Artist
As a composer, Jay Weigel has worked inbiothe the concert and film/commercial world. His works have been played and commissioned by orchestras around the U.S., includinhg the national Symphony Orchestra, New Orleans Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Lincoln Symphomny and others. He has worked with Terence Blanchard and R.E.M. as an orchecstrator and music preparator.
Album Description
The CD contains the music of Jay Weigel. Included are two works. The first, The River May Cry, is for orchestra, gospel choir, electric guitar, and male vocalist. The work was commissioned by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The second work is a piano concerto. this work is written for classical piano and Jazz Big Band. Both works explore the relationship between the written and oral traditions of music, specificaly, the street music of New Orleans.
