Wellesz: 20th Century Portraits / Deutsches-Symphony Orchestra Berlin / Epple
Editorial Reviews Deutsches Symphony-Orchestra Berlin Egon Wellesz was counted among the most performed Austrian composers until he had to leave his homeland in 1938 and settle in England. Only now is the music scene gradually becoming aware once more of one of the most original and versatile composers of the twentieth-century, who remained active as a composer into hi old age. This recording represents a cross-section of his vocal and orchestral music, spanning the spectrum from "Vorfrühling" from the period of the First World War, to the "Symphonic Epilogue", which Wellesz wrote in 1969 at the age of 84.
