ULLMANN: Symphonies 1 & 2 / Lieder / Don Quixote / Gurzenich-Cologne / Conlon
Editorial Reviews Symphony No. 1 "On my youth" Symphony No. 2 in D major Juliane Banse, soprano Gurzenich-Orchestra Cologne Victor Ullmann's name has been appearing in concert programs with increasing frequency in recent years. Most notably, his opera Der Kaiser from Atlantis composed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943/44, has taken its place in the standard repetoire, while his chamber music is also gaining acceptance. His symphonic music has lagged behind; very little of it survived and his two symphonies remain relatively unknown. James Conlon dedication to "forbidden", "degenerate" music of the 20th century by championing the works of the neglected composers of the Holocaust and in association with Capriccio, presents the music of Victor Ullmann.
