"I Fiati all'Opera" / I Solisti della Scalla / Phillip Moll
Editorial Reviews "I Fiati all'Opera" Music by Ponchielli, Fumagalli, Carulli, Bassi, Klosé I Solisti della Scalla Phillip Moll Instrumental music in Italy during the 19th century confirms the absolute domination of the opera. It is not so much the meager production but the derivation from operatic formulas of the few scores available that highlights the substantial lack of interest in instrumental forms by the Italian musical establishment of the period. The few pages that have remained in the repetoire are almost completely the work of opera composers and appear as footnotes in the catalogues of their works. Side by side with this output there exists anothere repertoire, differing in context but not result. This is due to the magisterial leaders in the instrumental field who lived and worked beyond a musical panorama dedicated exclusively to opera. The city of Milan and its conservatory were the main crossroads of this activity and this CD contains all of the scores maintained in its library. In 1990 the first orchestra solos of the Scala Theatre decided, incited by the necessity of completing their own musical experience, to establish a chamber group to face the vast classic repertoire and the compositions for two or more solo instruments and orchestra. Beautifully produced and packaged, the recording comes with extensive and informative liner notes in 4 languages.
