Editorial Reviews Giovanni Bottesini (1821-1889) Rêverie Ermanno Ferrari, doublebass In 19th century Italy, much instrumental music was written for performance in the drawing rooms of bourgeoisie; music often based on themes from operas, but also concertos written by vituoso-composers in orcder to show off their virtuoso talent. The symbol of this category was Paganini, whose name became synonymous with virtuoso. In fact, people often spoke of the Paganini of..., and then added the name of the instrument played. Giovanni Bottesini was undoubtedly one of these virtuosi, remembered for his extraordinary contribution to the modern double bass. He was a composer and conductor of both sacred and and theatre music. This recording with virtuoso Ermanno Ferrari, argueably one of the finest double bass players in the world, beautifully captures the essence of his works.
