Editorial Reviews
Evening Standard, January 2004
"
positively voluptuous settings of lines taken from many poetic sources illustrating the endurance of love."
International Record Review, October 2004
...A particular dimension of human experience is at once universalized...in the rich imagery of the orchestral score.
Album Description
Augusta Read Thomas, one of the most acclaimed composers of her generation and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Mead Composer-in-Residence, is releasing her second self-produced recording in eight months: a disc featuring her orchestral work Words of the Sea, performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Pierre Boulez and recorded in Chicagos Orchestra Hall at the world premiere in December 1996; and her work for soprano and ensemble In My Sky at Twilight, a set of songs that received its premiere as part of the CSOs MusicNOW series in December 2002, performed by soprano Christine Brandes and the Chicago MusicNOW Ensemble, led by Pierre Boulez. The performance of In My Sky at Twilight, the composers first self-produced disc, was released as a CD single in November 2003.
