From the Artist
Renata Scotto, Giorgio Lamberti, Luigi Roni, et al., vocal soloists/Orchestra & Chorus of Teatro Massimo Bellini/Danilo Belardinelli, conductor

Album Description
First performed on May 16, 1829 in Parma, Zaira was a resounding failure and never given again in Bellini’s lifetime, though the composer re-used parts of it in later works such as I Capuleti ed i Montecchi, and even Norma. Today, it is evident that the opera has a great deal of beautiful music in it and that the initial rude reception had more to do with audience politics than intrinsic worth. In any case, any Bellini lover will have to have this rare recording starring the great Renata Scotto, at budget price!
