Estienne Moulinié: L'Humaine Comédie - Le Poème Harmonique - Vincent Dumestre
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Estienne Moulinié spent most of his long career in the service of Gaston of Orleans - "wandering from province to province", as he himself put it. He was a brilliant craftsman and, through his music, he stood up as a chronicler of the theatre of his time, with its courtiers, ordinary folk and military men. Through songs, airs de cours and récits de ballet, he presented many contrasting portraits, political satires and melancholy love songs, reflecting the open and heterogeneous culture that existed in seventeenth-century France. Each of his works very aptly casts a light on some aspect of the Human Comedy of his day. Beautifully packaged with a 30 page booklet featuring extensive liner notes and full libretto, Alpha Productions presents the critically acclaimed ensemble, Le Poème Harmonique under the direction of Vincent Dumestre. This is must to any collection of Early Music of the Baroque period and the French renaissance. Enjoy!
