The Liszt Sonata is a highlight--a breathtaking display of the young Horowitz's ability to transform a keyboard warhorse. It is far superior to his mannered later version, and its disc mates also offer thrilling playing. As essential is volume 2 of the series, featuring a varied mix of composers.
