Italian Miracles
Editorial Reviews Aage Kvalbein cello Nobody has every doubted the fact that miracles happen in Italy. It is here that some of the most beautiful melodies in the world have been created, and it is here that the soil has produced the greatest variety of wines in the world. We made a pilgrimage to Italy to experience and sense all of this in surrounding in which architecture and art also seem to have been touched by a divine hand. We were not disappointed. In a widely renowned castle in Montalcino in southern Tuscany, Castello Banfi, which alone can boast a production of 35 different wines, we laid all out senses bare to the miracles that occur daily in Italy. And to the fact that there is probably a connection between the aesthetics in the various art forms and the ideals of taste in wine. We chose 19 pieces of music from various different eras in Italian music, from early Baroque right up to Modern times. Then we set about looking for 19 different Italian wines that if drunk when listening to the music best confirm and reinforce the atmosphere in the works. Below is a list that shows the results or out labour. Since our journey began in Norway, it seemed natural to invite two Norwegians who have chosen to line among the Italian Miracles to join us on our expedition Elizabeth Norgerg-Schulz and Rolf Lislevand. With Håvard Gimses undisputed participation, we ended up making a small ensemble. We also found there was a need for new arrangements of form of the works. The obvious choice here was the composer Henning Sommerro, who is self-confessed lover of Italian music and wine and also happens to own an Italian Accordion! Aage Kvalbein and Erik Hillestad
