Cuban composer Ernest Lecuona wrote tons of music, some of which has never been published. There's an excellent ongoing survey of his music on BIS Records, but for anyone looking for a single-disc collection of the most popular pieces, this one will do very nicely. Pianist Cristiana Pegoraro has an attractively light touch and a fresh sense of rhythm that keeps each of these attractive miniatures moving along nicely. She also knows how to make the piano sing, which is critical in music that is essentially a collection of "songs without words." Dynamic's recorded sound is pleasingly atmospheric. --David Hurwitz
