Album Description
Born in Verona, Franco Donatoni (1927-2000) was noted for his striking rhythms and vivid orchestral colors, qualities he first imbibed from an early love of Bartók. His music also exhibits influences of Maderna, Boulez and Cage, and has been remarked for its thorough assimilation of most of the elements of avant-garde music since about 1950. This is the first volume in a projected Donatoni Edition from Stradivarius in honor of this important 20th-century Italian composer and teacher. These works span a period of 26 years and exhibit various aspects of Donatoni’s art.
