Album Description
These are transcriptions by lutenist Paolo Cherici for solo lute of well-known instrumental concertos by Antonio Vivaldi, perhaps both the most prolific and popular of Baroque concerto writers. The artist explains that "although down-sizing material intended for a number of instruments to just one – the lute – was both complex and difficult, I am thoroughly convinced of the results and do not believe Vivaldi’s actual music is in any way compromised. Of course, there is not the body and variety of tone color that can be achieved with orchestral forces, but this is more than compensated for by the lute’s combination of discretion, refinement and wealth of resonant timbres."
