The recording's title refers to the program--most of it thoroughly English in origin--that the Salisbury Cathedral Choir performed on its first U.S. tour in 1989. This "representative cross-section" of the choir's repertoire includes familiar and lesser-known works by Weelkes, Byrd, Stanford, Howells, Purcell, Schutz, and Leighton. The sound favors the treble a bit too much, but the standard of singing is first-rate. --David Vernier
