Bach's four orchestral suites, or overtures, as they're also called, consist of a big opening movement that features a stately march at either end and of a zippy middle section. He then does the usual Baroque-suite thing--a selection of international dances and lyrical movements, including the infamous Air on a G string, played here as Bach actually wrote it, rather than in its disgusting later arrangement. Kuijken's authentic instrument performances created quite a stir when they first came out over a decade ago. They were just about the last word in authentic excellence, and little has changed since then except the price. They're much cheaper now! --David Hurwitz
