John Solum is an accomplished player of the baroque flute, Igor Kipnis one of our greatest harpsichordists. Together they produce a nearly ideal disc, beautifully played in every respect and even decorated with authentic-sounding embellishments. They stick with demonstrably authentic Bach works, passing up some disputed pieces. Solum has supplied a missing fragment of the Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord in A Major. If for some reason you don't like the baroque flute, check out Paula Robison and Kenneth Cooper's remarkably stylish disc, which includes the disputed works (Vanguard SVC 70/1). For authentic instruments, though, this is definitely your disc. --Leslie Gerber
