This ongoing series from the Hanover Band is a wonderful treat, better played than most of the period instrument competition and as convincingly interpreted as any Haydn symphony performances on any instruments. The list of great conductors who have recorded these symphonies may be a long one, but Roy Goodman is among the best. Plus, he has the advantages of the sparkling sound of his ensemble and of Hyperion's superb recording. Though you may know the familiar No. 94, it still has some surprises in this version. --Leslie Gerber --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
