These recordings, made over a period of several years from 1951 to 1956, include both commercial studio recordings and broadcast performances. It's a real treat to hear the composer playing his own music with such conviction, and these concluding pieces from the series of Preludes and Fugues are the weightiest and most affecting. If you don't already know the music, this disc is a highly recommended introduction to it. If you do, you will be fascinated to hear the composer's own performances. The little set of dances, which is played by most piano students, is a nice little bonus. --Leslie Gerber
