The SmartSwitch Router 600 is Enterasys' first product designed to support traditional private WAN and high-performance Virtual Private Network (VPN) capabilities for branch sites. The SmartSwitch Router 600 combines the latest hardware and software technologies to allow corporate enterprises to create secure links between branch offices and central sites, using Internet VPN services or traditional WAN services such as leased lines, ISDN and Frame Relay. The SmartSwitch Router 600 supports Enterasys' Routing Software for routing and wide area functionality that includes IP routing, IPX, Appletalk, DECnet routing and bridging; PPP, MPPP, Frame Relay PVCs, X.25, X.25 relay and switching using LLC2; stateless packet filtering and screening; NAT and DHCP, including BOOTP/DHCP relay; and QoS management using the Bandwidth Reservation feature. The SmartSwitch Router 600 is also designed for use at the boundary between a corporate intranet and the Internet, providing secure high-speed access to the corporate intranet for remote users, branch offices, partners and customers utilizing the Internet as a means of physical connection. Users are authenticated and information flow is encrypted within the SmartSwitch Router 600 traffic flow, while it utilizes the Internet as an access point. As customers continue to expand their use of the Internet to conduct business, the SmartSwitch Router 600 provides a solid migration path for implementing and deploying VPN solutions within the enterprise.
