This compact device is designed for small sized workgroups with mixed Ethernet and Fast Ethernet devices. The two NWay ports allow both 100Mb and 10Mb devices to be connected through the switch, automatically negotiating to the higher speed. User selectable dipswitches determine half-duplex or full-duplex operation for each port. Full-duplex operation effectively doubles the bandwidth for each port, increasing the maximum bandwidth of the NWay and 10Mb Ethernet ports to 200Mb and 20Mb, respectively. All connected devices seamlessly communicate as if on a homogenous network. Alternatively, a workgroup can use this switch to deploy power servers to provide congestion-free, simultaneous access to workstations. In this application, up to two servers can be directly connected to the NWAY ports providing each with a full 200Mb of dedicated bandwidth in full-duplex mode. The remaining eight ports can be connected to workstations, providing 20Mb of dedicated bandwidth to each in full-duplex mode.The palm-sized DES-810E is convenient and can fit on virtually any desktop. Network users can be easily and directly connected to the switch and provided with an individual collision domain. By providing dedicated bandwidth to each user, network bottlenecks can be relieved. The DES-810E supports both fragment-free cut-through and store-and-forward switching. Dynamically shifting from lower latency cut-through, to the more reliable store-and-forward scheme during moments of peak network utilization, the DES-810E maintains a balance of performance and reliability to ensure the fastest and most reliable transmission of network data.
