SMC's TigerSwitch 10/100, SMC6716L3, is a new-generation switch that performs layer-2 switching and IP-based Layer 3 routing in the same box. It includes 16 fixed auto-sensing 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports and two front-panel slots that accept optional single-port 100BASE-FX modules. With a host of advanced features and comprehensive management capabilities, this device is a potent solution for the network core. The TigerSwitch 10/100 performs high-speed Layer 3 IP routing that seamlessly integrates network subnets and VLANs. This switch has the flexibility to be integrated within your existing network infrastructure, completely replacing slow legacy routers and providing the required throughput for today's Web-based intranet traffic flows.This TigerSwitch also comes fully-loaded with advanced performance-enhancing features. IGMP maintains available bandwidth by limiting multicast packet transmissions to subscribers only. Broadcast Storm Control prevents broadcast traffic storms from engulfing the network. QoS priority queuing ensures a minimum delay for real-time multimedia data across the network. Flow Control eliminates the loss of packets due to bottlenecks caused by port saturation. Port-based and tagged VLANs with support for GVRP are also included to provide traffic security and efficient use of network bandwidth.
