Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining but Uneven Anthology.......2007-06-16

Every story in this collection was penned by Brian Michael Bendis, but you'd never know that unless you read the credits--the storytelling styles vary wildly, based upon the characters and artist that Bendis is working with. The best story here is a three-parter introducing the Ultimate Punisher, illustrated by the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz. A few other usually solid artists turn in less-than-inspiring work. There's some quippy dialogue (overdone in an annoyingly self-referential Fantastic Four story), but if you're looking for an introduction to Marvel's Ultimate Universe, pick up Mark Miller's The Ultimates.

1 out of 5 stars Style challenged.......2007-04-02

While some of the stories are amusing, the style is highly varied and in some cases extremely annoying. There is little consistency between the collected comics, and the only theme is that most of them portray spider-man as a whining kid. There are better collections to spend your money on.

5 out of 5 stars MUST buy for Ultimate Spider-Man fans.......2007-01-31

This book was an incredible read. If you are a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man and Bendis, then this book is a MUST buy!

Bendis does sooo much to flesh out the Ultimate world in these 17 issues. It's his Spider-Man on adventures not told in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Spider-Man meets Wolverine, fights Hulk, confronts Daredevil and Punisher simultaneously, meets Iron Man, Dr. Strange, a hilarious encounter with the Fantastic Four, his first encounter with the Lizard and Man Thing, a scary encounter with Blade, a bizarre meeting with the X-Men, his relationship with Mary Jane reaches new levels, and so much more.

These comics are so well written and often hilarious and inciteful. They effect Ultimate Spider-Man and stories even crossover several times. Definitely a fun read and great book!

4 out of 5 stars Finally.......2006-10-09

A wrong has been righted. This collection had previously only been available in hard cover which was out of print. So of course the marketplace sellers decided to triple charge the face value for people who really wanted this collection. This trade collects Ultimate Team Up 1-16 plus the Spidey Summer Special. So unless you grabbed the comics when they came out or shelled out for the hardcover, you couldn't get the whole collection. Marvel released 3 paperback trades for the series, but for some reason decided not to include 3 issues of the series. So those who purchased the 3 trades were not getting a full run. This trade finally fixes the problem.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars First Impressions.......2006-03-20

Ultimate Marvel Team-Up is an important series to be aquainted with if you are following the Ultimate Marvel story line. The book follows stories 9-13 of the Ultimate Marvel Team-Up series which features Ultimate Spider-Man running into other members of the Marvel universe.

Issue 9 features Spidey going on a Job Shadow assignment for school where he goes to follow Reed Richards, but ends up being left alone because the F4 believe he is a common intern. Chaos breaks loose when Spidey wanders the Baxter Building and accidentally lets loose an angry army of Skrulls!

Issue 10 features Spider-Man going out of his way to try and help Dr. Curt Conners who has recently taken his expiriments to a whole new level; himself. Spidey relates to Conners' problem and goes to help but finds that there is something else down in the sewers besides crocodiles and mutated lizards...

Issue 11 co-stars the X-Men as Peter and his pals go off for senior skip day. When the world's favorite mutants show up at the mall, Wolverine decides it's been too long since he had some fun with his "cousin"...

Issues 12 & 13 feature the first run in with Dr. Strange. When the wall crawler is sitting around with nothing to do, he decides it's time to get going, but he ends up being brainwashed by an evil sorcerer who's after Dr. Strange. Now it's up to the good Doctor to make a house call in his own home...

4 out of 5 stars Really Good selections; certainly better than Volume 2.......2005-07-28

I really liked this volume. Much better than Ultimate Team-up Volume 2 (which I was disappointed in). In Volume 3, the meetings between Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Black Widow and Shang-Chi are very entertaining. The end of the Ultimate Super-Spider Super Special which is included in Volume 3 was also especially good. The only complaint I have about the Ultimate Marvel Team-ups is that they contain portrayals of the Ultimate Fantastic Four that are completely inconsistent with the Ultimate Fantastic Four Title (i.e. - the Ultimate Marvel Team-up FF is old and the Ultimate Fantastic Four in their own title are teenagers). If you don't have a problem with continuity or consistency, then this is probably not a big deal to you.

4 out of 5 stars With the Good, comes the Blah..........2004-10-21

Unlike what some reviewers have written down, this is NOT the trade paperback. It is the hardcover book that includes ULTIMATE MARVEL TEAM-UP #1-16 as well as ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN SUPER SPECIAL #1. It is basically a collection of Spider-man being "teamed-up" (or in some cases fighting against) other Marvel superheroes/characters in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. If you remember Marvel Fanfare from back in the 80's then that is what this book is like. Now there are some stories in this collection that are wickedly awesome and funny, and others that are just blah. Let's break them down, shall we? ^_^

Ultimate Marvel Team-Up:

#1) This one is one of my favorites. It features our favorite web-slinger and Wolverine of the X-Men. They're kind of thrown together when Sabertooth starts a fight with Wolvie in Time Square. The ending makes you laugh!

#2 & 3) These two feature Spidey and Hulk. The big green guy has lost it and is rampaging through New York, so of course Spidey to the rescue! This one's alright.

#4 & 5) Features Spidey and Iron Man. These two have retro kind of art, anyone familiar with Mike Allred knows what I'm talking about. The story is ok, it goes into Iron Man's past and his IronTech technology; but the art is kind of distracting.

#6, 7 & 8) These feature Punisher, Daredevil, and Spidey. It's by far the darkest story in the series. It's about Punisher going after the men who killed his family, who ironically were his fellow cop buddies. This one's a must read!

#9) The Mahfood issue! Very comical! Basically, Peter Parker goes to visit the Baxter Building where the Fantastic Four are, and accidentally opens a portal unleashing thousands of Skrulls! The dialogue is hilarious and Mahfood's art has funny details that are fun to look at. One of the best!

#10) Spidey meets Man-Thing and Curt Conners as his lizard self. This is an ok story, felt kind of sad for Dr. Conners though.

#11) I LOVE THIS ISSUE!!! The art looks like that of a manga and makes the characters look so cute! Anyway... this one's titled: Peter Parker's Day Off. Very reminiscent of "Ferris Bueler's Day Off". In this one, Peter and the gang play hookie on Senior Skip Day. They go to the mall and bump into the X-Men, where they all start to have a very enlightening conversation about mutants.

#12 & 13) Spidey meets Dr. Stphen Strange. Spidey helps stop some guy from stealing some mystical artifact from Doctor Strange. This is a pretty good story, the art fit's the story very well.

#14) Spidey meets The Black Widow! Very good story! Shows how Natasha Romonov uses her skills as well as her sexual appeal to get what she wants. Also, a quick cameo by General Nick Fury!

#15 & 16) Spidey meets Shang-Chi, MASTER OF KUNG FU! These two are VERY action packed. Spidey learns a thing or two from Shang-Chi as well.

Ultimate Spider-man Super Special #1:

This is an all-out special including:
Blade
Elektra
Daredevil
The Ultimates
Fantastic Four
Doctor Strange
Black Widow/S.H.I.E.L.D.
X-Men
Punisher

Overall, if you're a fan of the Ultimate Marvel comics, you would most definitely like this collection. If you're more into the main 616 universe you might be turned off by it. Either way, it's worth a read!!! Hope this was helpful! ^_^

4 out of 5 stars it was ok.......2004-03-16

This was ok. It was really a Spider-Man collection. The first story teams him with Wolverine fighting Sabertooth. It was pretty good. The second story has Hulk in it. They fight--more or less evenly. It was a good story. The third story teams him with Iron Man. It's not such a good story. And it is drawn kind of cartoony.

2 out of 5 stars Not up to par.......2003-12-04

I don't know how fans of Ultimate Spider-man or X-Men can rave about these stories. If you like Bagley or Kubert's art from the mentioned titles, you will surely be turned off by the weak artwork in these stories. The stories are ok, though incredibly simple. Ok for someone just getting into the Ultimate universe because the stories are easy enough to understand, but it really offers nothing for long time fans.
