Customer Reviews:
My current best choice for a text in introduction to microcomputers.......2007-04-04
Several years ago, I regularly taught a course in introduction to microcomputers at the college level. In general, I had two categories of students, those with experience who were taking it as a bunny and those who struggled when using computers. I don't know if I will ever teach such a course again, but if I did, this is the book that I would most likely use as the text.
The coverage is excellent and there is greater depth than you find in most other books that cover this material. The summaries at the end of the chapters provide for immediate feedback, there are a large number of colored diagrams that illustrate the concepts and support the text, which is very readable. Even the students who are uncomfortable with computers will be able to read it and gain understanding.
At this point, this is the best text that I know of for teaching introduction to microcomputers and I strongly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent text for an introduction to computer technology........2003-08-06
I have used the last three editions of this book and been impressed with the author's willingness to revise and upgrade it as the technology evolves and progresses. Despite a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, my students have been almost universally complimentary about it's value. The auxillary material offered online is excellent, aiding the beginners while still providing a challenge or two for the semi-experts bent on validating their knowledge.
The illustrations support the text very well, and the material covers a great deal of ground from the history of computing to the propagation of the Internet. This is an excellent introductory book, very well written.
It is comprahesive and humanistic........2002-09-02
Usually a computer manual would bore the reader to death with its technicalities. This book isn't the case. Although it comprehends a great deal of technical aspects it focuses on the humanistic and ethical aspects of the technology as well. It also discusses both the technology past and its future.
Should be called Computers of your past, Badly written.......2000-11-20
Blah, Blah Blah, This book is far too wordy. Would make anyone who knew the slightest about computers fall asleep, Dull! Would hate for a newbie to pick up this book, would make you fear computing. Alot of info prestented is out dated and sometimes down right WRONG! Best thing to do with this book is put it by your bed and if you can't sleep read a paragraph and you'll be fast asleep.
Computers In Your Future.......2000-05-17
This book was the best beginners computer book I have found to date. I teach computers to Senior Citizens and middle aged adults. This book has helped me introduce them to computers with an understanding that is relative to thier way of thinking. It is not too technical so that the average person, someone who is not techie, can understand computers, their relationship to today's world and its future growth. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to get a look at computers from a non-heavy technical aspect.
Not very up to date!.......1998-12-28
This book has a lot to cover, but fails to deliver a decent amount of knowledge to anyone that has seen a computer in the last few years. It is so out-of-date it is rediculous! They updated it in certain parts and left out others. Not to mention the answers in the back for the reviews aren't correct? Definately not a good buy if you know how to spell the word computer....
