1 out of 5 stars Boo Hiss!.......2001-06-26

I have used the Exam Cram series of books for many exams that I have passed for my MCSE Exam and have been happy with them, but this one is an exception. I found this book to be very poorly written and dificult to follow. I tried to fight my way through it, but gave up half way through, feeling that I was wasting my time.

1 out of 5 stars Wrong answers and inaccurate information.......2001-04-04

As an experienced Exchange Admin who is just brushing up on a few points for the exam, it would seem a book touting itself as an "Exam Cram" would be just the ticket. What a disappointment. It took me only about an hour with this book to cast it aside. It offers wrong answers to test questions, along with a lot of poorly written questions that are nothing like the actual exam. When I see such low regard for accuracy with the things I'm familar with, I can't trust the rest of the material. As for being a reference for day-to-day use, as some other reviews suggest, that's a joke. There isn't enough depth.

The Sybex book on this is good for brushing up on areas like the silly MS Mail Connector that MS still pounds you on. Trancender is still the best for exam simulations. As for day-to-day admin, nothing beats TechNet and the MS Knowledge Base.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you want to pass........2000-09-16

This is a horrible book for studying for the exam. If you study this book alone, you are guaranteed to fail. I made that mistake, and I hope this review prevents any of you from making the same mistake. The book will probably be helpful for on-the-job use, but if you are studying this book in hopes to pass the exam, look elsewhere. Everyone else says the Sybex book was great, and I wish that was the book I bought. Stay away from this one.

2 out of 5 stars shhh! It E.......2000-09-09

Book lacks structure, and is therefore very difficult to read. Author jumps from subject to subject without warning, and provides unnecessary details on irrelevent topics. Would only recommend this book to someone who has a firm knowledge of Exchange, but would like to learn more. Definately not a test-prep book.

5 out of 5 stars excellent study guide.......2000-05-26

All I can say is that it is well written book. If you pay attentions to all the details, it bocomes very handy tool for exam as well as for real life exprience.

2 out of 5 stars Don't make this your only reference.......1999-11-09

I had this book and the Transcender exam for Exchange 5.5. It's a good thing I had the Transcender stuff. I've been working with Exchange for over a year in single-site configurations, but needed something to get wise to multi-site configurations, etc. This book wasn't enough. Maybe it was just the fact that I kept falling asleep over it, but there seemed to be major sections that the Transcender exam covered well that this didn't touch at all. All in all, a disappointment.

3 out of 5 stars Book not bad, support not the greatest thing in the world........1999-09-30

Book seems OK. However if you're thinking about emailing them for a question/corections, I suggest that you don't. You're never gonna get a reply back anyways.

4 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED AS YOUR SECOND REFERENCE.......1999-09-09

I USED THIS BOOK TOGETHER WITH THE MOC TO PASS MY EXCHANGE SERVER 5.5 EXAM. I AM NOW A MCSE.

I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT EXCHANGE SERVER. IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE PROFFESIONALS. IT COVERS THE BASIC ADMINISTRATION INFORMATIONS BUT NOT MUCH OF PRACTICAL STUFF e.g. LOTUS NOTES CONNECTIVITIES. DON'T JUST CONCENTRATE ON THIS BOOK, TRY TO LOOK AROUND FOR OTHERS.

3 out of 5 stars Sorry, not a learning tool.......1999-04-17

I found this book to be a good road map of an already simple Exchange Administrator interface. There was some information on Exchange, but it was vague and incomplete. For the most part, the reader is told where to set a given setting, but little information was given on the impact of that setting.

The gap between writers was also very transparent. This was very distracting.

There was also some incorrect and confusing information in the book. The section about MS Mail Connector Directory Synchronization Server and requiring a Requestor for each post office is a good example of this. This is not true. Each post office is a requestor, but they lead you to believe you need to install a requestor on the connector for each post office in existence.

Overall, this might be a decent book in preparation to take the test, but you might want to pick another if you want to run Exchange Server.

3 out of 5 stars Easy to follow, but not practical for the exam.......1999-03-30

I just finished my Exchange Server 5.5 exam, using this book to study from. While the book itself is not a bad read, and is great about showing you step-by-step how to navigate Exchange itself, the end-of-chapter review questions were completely irrelevant for the exam. Spend more time with the Case Projects problems, and that will give you more of an idea how the adaptive exam is.

4 out of 5 stars A reasonable book when combined with practical experience.......1999-06-29

I guess I have to give this book 4 stars as I passed the exam first time with a high score! However I suspect that this book should not be used as the ONLY study material. Exchange 5.5 is an exam that requires practical experience to pass. I felt the way it was organised was logical and the "two minute drills" and tests were useful to double check knowledge. I tend to agree with a previous reviewer, the client section was indeed very weak. However, good sections on Internet connectivity and NNTP as well as the usual connectors and planning stuff that is the bones of any Exchange 5.5 exam. That said, you will still need to take trial tests BEFORE the exam, do not just rely on this book!

5 out of 5 stars I used it to success.......1999-06-15

This book was given to me as a gift, and I used it as my principle reference. Unlike some of the reviews below, I found it very useful, and had very little problems with it. Strong section on Installing and Configuring (with a real nice subsection on managing exchange server sites) I found the two minute drills a great way to retest myself in order to make certain I knew what was important. I'd recommend this to others.

1 out of 5 stars Be very sure you want this particular book.......1999-04-28

I found that this book has enough technical information but reading it is probably harder than writing the exam. It is unstructured, assumes knowledge of topics not yet covered, not thorough in explanations.I am an MCSE+I and I had so much difficulty with this book that I abandoned it 4 chapters in. I used web resources to write and pass the exam Brian Talbert and Stuart Shay have excellent notes ( search the net for them)and I would read those rather than this book anyday!!

2 out of 5 stars TOO much resumed.......1999-03-31

I used this guide to take my exam and failed. I liked the 2 minutes drill at the end of each chapter and the fact it was fast (too fast?) to read. But it positively HAS NOT enough informations to prepare Exchange exam and the questions are too easy compare to what the exam asks. I worked much more hours with my MS courses books and using blank exams and then succeeds. I do not recommend for people preparing the exams and I do not see other valuable usages.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......1999-03-13

Not only does this book contain mis-leading and outright incorrect information, it is of absolutely no value if you are studying for the test. You are better off not reading anything, and simply guessing on the questions. Save your money.
