There's something about Perry! Perry Mason, as a canny 14-year-old remarks in the episode "The Case of the Pint-Sized Client," is "the best lawyer in town." Here's the evidence. In 15 chronological second-season episodes from the classic series by which all lawyer shows are judged, Los Angeles attorney Perry Mason successfully defends a host of clients so seemingly guilty that Nancy Grace would have had them incarcerated by the first commercial break. Created by Erle Stanley Gardner, Mason was already a popular character in books, films, and radio before coming to television in 1957, and Raymond Burr, usually typecast as a heavy in feature films, did Mason justice (Mason was ranked 28th on the Bravo network's list of television's 100 best characters). Punctuating his sentences with that dramatic intake of breath, Burr's Mason exudes gravitas and expertise. He gets capable support from Barbara Hale as his secretary, Della Street, and William Hopper as private detective Paul Drake.

In what may be television's most thankless role, William Talman costars as district attorney Hamilton Burger, who nearly every week loses what looked to be an open-and-shut case, usually as the result of some dramatic surprise witness (in one episode, a parrot!), an unorthodox legal maneuver, or a cross-examination courtroom confession ("I didn't mean to kill him, your honor"). There is no delving into Mason's private life, although one episode hints at Mason being something of a ladies man. When Della suggestively tells him a new client is in his waiting room, he replies, "Blonde or brunette?" Cleverly plotted, and infused with a palpable noir sensibility , Perry Mason holds up as more than TV Land nostalgia, although it is fun to see such familiar faces as Jesse "the Maytag Repairman" White, Edgar Buchanan (Petticoat Junction), and Joseph Kearns and Herbert Anderson from Dennis the Menace. No extras, but these entertaining episodes will definitely please the court. --Donald Liebenson

5 out of 5 stars TIMELESS TV.......2007-07-02

With all of the cast excepting Della now dead, it is pleasant to return to those times. I began watching Perry Mason on TV when yet in high school and after military service and college he was yet on TV!

After purchasing the first two DVD sets can still feel happy about purchasing them, and will get this one too. I not only watch the shows but read the books, just recently finishing The Case of the Caretaker's Cat. The Persian cat of that book was named 'Clinker' but none of the TV shows, however, can be called that!

Great TV from long ago, and for me growing up in the 1950's, it's fun to revisit a world of cars, clothes, and people that other than in these shows, no longer exist. Perry and the gang are than actors and in many ways seem to have become our welcome friends.

Semper Fi.

4 out of 5 stars Perry Mason --- Second Year.......2007-06-27

My wife's favorite and she can't wait until the second half of year 2 comes out. Good production values and the programs have aged well. Outstanding entertainment IF you are a fan of the series.

5 out of 5 stars Great Courtroom Entertainment.......2007-06-27

Perry Mason - Season 2, Vol. 1 picks right up where the last set left off.
Contained herein are 15 episodes from the second season.
In my humble opinion the first few seasons of Perry Mason where the best of its run and this set doesn't disappoint.
There's plenty of great noir drama and courtroom action. Needless to say, Perry's client always gets off the hook!
The quality of the prints used for the transfer and the transfer itself are excellent.
My only complaint is that I feel the entire season should have been released in one set.

5 out of 5 stars The Jury is unanimous, Della is found guilty of being sooooo fine........2007-06-25

One of televisions' most entertaining and popular series enters its second season on DVD with this great release by CBS Video.

Raymond Burr is Perry Mason and he imbues each performance with his special combination of toughness & sophistication. Along for the ride are his sidekicks, the ever beautiful Barbara Hale as Perry's confidential secretary Della Street and the constantly smoking William Hopper as the well informed private detective Paul Drake. The opposition is played by the formidable William Talman as the constantly losing DA Hamilton Burger, though he somehow keeps getting re-elected along with the aged beyond all comprehension Ray Collins as the constantly passed over for promotion Lt. Tragg.

Less is implied about Perry & Della's personal relationship, but overall the episodes are better and have more snap in the writing. The episodes look very sharp, almost "too" sharp in a way since many of the scenes involve a technique called "deep focus" where characters are both in the foreground and background and inevitably we see a blurry Perry or client while the judge in the back is perfectly in focus.

This set has only two DVDs with 15 episodes total as opposed to the previous sets that contained 3 DVDs & 19 episodes each. And the menu pages are the same, featuring promo photos of the cast, though without the Perry Mason theme playing in the background. You can also play all the episodes on each DVD, which is nice if one episode doesn't satisfy your "Perry fix". And in a very tiny, but nice touch the curser is in the shape of a judge's mallet.

And while we still have no extras (not surprising I suppose given the age of the series), we do have original airdates of each show printed with the episode description. The back cover of the box is also nice indicated that both Raymond Burr & Barbara Hale's Emmy wins for that year.

For any fan of the series I heartily recommend this set and give it the full five stars. But I do hope that someday we get a few extras, even if they're just old commercials for the series.

Tidbits:

- Some interesting math is used in "The Case of the Sardonic Sergeant". The character Ricky Stevens was apparently a "stripper" while living in Manila (Philippines). Yet her age as revealed by a character on the witness stand along with the date in which she left for America would mean that she was 15 or so at the time...ewww.

- Perhaps due to the complex set-up of the murder, "The Case of the Perjured Parrot" does not have a trial, but a Coroner's Inquest run by Edgar "Uncle Joe" Buchanan. Needless to say, the explanation of all the events is still pretty wacky.

- "The Case of the Borrowed Brunette" uses the same exterior footage of an apartment complex as Season One's "The Case of the Long-Legged Models" where the murder happens. Furthermore, the victim in both episodes was played by the same actor Joe De Santis.

- In "The Case of the Glittering Goldfish" we see a number of camera zooms and a very interesting tracking shot where we enter the courtroom to see Hamilton Burger question a witness that lasts a good minute before it dissolves to another shot. That episode was directed by Gerd Oswald who later became associated with "The Outer Limits".

- In the same episode, Lt. Tragg compliments Della to the point where he almost...well, we can imagine the rest.

5 out of 5 stars Great Television.......2007-05-04

Perry Mason fans waited a long time for a DVD release of the finest courtroom drama ever to be broadcast into homes. It was entertainment that kept viewers glued to their seats, waiting for that moment when Perry would nail the killer on the witness stand and free his client. Once the first season was released it was only a matter of time until season two followed, and it finally has.

Raymond Burr had some good roles in films, but will always be remembered for the tough defense attorney you wanted on your side in the toughest jam. Barbara Hale was his pretty secretary, Della Street, who kept Perry human and was in love with him. William Hopper was the dapper detective, Paul Drake. He had a playful and flirtatious relationship with Della but every viewer knew that secretly her heart belonged to Perry.

William Talman as D.A. Hamilton Burger was the perfectly cast guy you almost felt sorry for, as just when he was ready to gloat over his victory in court, Perry would spring his client by revealing the real killer, once again defeating poor old Burger. The relationship of these four people made the mood and mystery of the often gripping conclusion fun to watch. There has never been anything close to it in genre on television since. Its mix of drama, noir, and humor, and its truly likable characters, made for terrific viewing.

Erle Stanley Gardner's original creation of Perry Mason was a bit more two-fisted pulp type reading, but slowly grew into something resembling the show when it became so popular. Gardner's Perry Mason novels, begun decades before the show and continuing for decades more, are still fun to read. The same can be said of every single show in the series.

The second season cemented Perry, Della, Paul, and even Burger and Lt. Trag as weekly visitors into the homes of a large section of Americans. Like the novels, the title of every episode began with "The Case of-" and each one had some wonderful moments, both in and out of the courtroom. Just as with the first release, the second season will be split into two releases, half the season's episodes on each release. The full episode list for season two is as follows:

The Case of the Corresponding Corpse---The Case of the Lucky Loser---The Case of the Pint-Sized Client---The Case of the Sardonic Sergeant---The Case of the Curious Bride--The Case of the Buried Clock---The Case of the Married Moonlighter---The Case of the Jilted Jockey--- The Case of the Purple Woman---The Case of the Fancy Figures---The Case of the Perjured Parrot---The Case of the Shattered Dream---The Case of the Borrowed Brunette---The Case of the Glittering Goldfish---The Case of the Foot-Loose Doll---The Case of the Fraudulent Foto---The Case of the Romantic Rogue---The Case of the Jaded Joker---The Case of the Caretaker's Cat---The Case of the Stuttering Bishop---The Case of the Lost Last Act---The Case of the Bedeviled Doctor---The Case of the Howling Dog---The Case of the Calendar Girl--- The Case of the Petulant Partner---The Case of the Dangerous Dowager---The Case of the Deadly Toy---The Case of the Spanish Cross---The Case of the Dubious Bridegroom---The Case of the Lame Canary

It seems that almost everything on television is getting a DVD release as of late, many of little or no significance. Perry Mason was not only a terrific show, but an important part of television history, and our culture as Americans. TV didn't get any better, and only on rare occasions was it as good. Just a fantastic show, both entertaining and, today, nostalgic. A can't miss.

Book your return flight to the Satellite of Love and join Joel, Mike and the 'bots for another fearful foursome of flops in this collection of episodes from the Peabody Award-winning series Mystery Science Theater 3000. First up on Volume 11's menu of muck is Season Two's Ring of Terror, with Joel, Crow and Tom Servo riffing furiously on a half-baked story of fraternity pranks gone wrong; it's partnered with another interminable episode of the Bela Lugosi serial The Phantom Creeps. Next is Season Four's The Indestructible Man, in which Joel performs a frightening imitation of the movie's star, Lon Chaney Jr.; an episode of The Undersea Kingdom is also celebrated with a parade that goes predictably awry. Season Four's Tormented features headless ghosts, a guilt-ridden Richard Carlson, and Joel stuck in a ventilation shaft, plus a day-rescuing round of happy thoughts. And last but not least is Season Ten's Horrors of Spider Island, a German-made monster movie about dancers on a deserted island and a giant spider than transforms their manager into a hideous creature; Mike also undergoes a man-to-spider switcheroo after getting trapped in the 'bots' homemade spider web. For veteran MiSTies and pop culture fanatics, it doesn't get funnier than this.

Extras include theatrical trailers for all of the films save Ring of Terror; a brief interview with Tormented director Bert I. Gordon, his daughter Susan, and star Joseph Turkel, and wrap-arounds from the syndicated Mystery Science Hour, with Mike Nelson as an obsequious Jack Perkins, are also included. However, the best supplement is the second MST3K Jukebox, which compiles some of the show's funniest and most memorable musical numbers, including "Sidehackin',"Joel and the 'bots' garage-rock tribute to The Sidehackers and the incredible "Patrick Swayze Christmas" from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. --Paul Gaita

4 out of 5 stars Too much Joel........2007-06-30

Too much Joel... Not enough Mike. The show is just better with Mike at the helm. Although, TV's Frank kind of makes up for it.

But, what choice do you have? Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars if you are smart you will preorder this.......2007-05-16

I can truly say that I own every set that rhino has ever put out. I never held off on buying them and to me that is a good choice. I have recently seen how high vol. 10 is going for online and I find that amazing considering the fact that I had preorder mine and paid half the price. Vol. 9 is also going for a hefty price as well. I feel that if you are a true MSTie, you will get this set in your hands as soon as possible, if for anything do it for the Mr. BIG movie. If you remember they had to pull one of his MSTied VHS movies off the shelf. With all of the being said I also have to say that there are some prime choice of episodes available on this set. Some of them have not seen the light of day in many years. I highly recommend this set to those who had only seen the show in it's SCIFI channel era and those whom have not seen very many of the Joel episodes. I myself is very interested in this st due to the fact that I have not seen them since their original runs.

5 out of 5 stars Best to Pre-Order while you can..........2007-05-09

If history has taught us anything it is this, you can't depend on the new MST3K sets to be available for long, so if you're interested it's best to get them while you can. Case in point, Mystery Science Theater 3000 volume 10... available for purchase for about three months and then it was suddenly pulled from the shelves in a quiet recall with no replacements ever sent out. I myself had to get Volume 10 off of eBay (at a hefty premium at that) because I waited too long thinking it was a buy I could put off for a little bit. How wrong I was. The moral of the story is, when Volume 11 comes out, (as well as volumes 12, 13, 14 and so on), it's better to hedge your bets and get it as fast as possible before they vanish all too soon.

Oh, and my reason for giving Volume 11 here a 5-Star rating sight unseen... that's just me being the loyal Mistie fan-boy that I am. =^)

5 out of 5 stars Another great set.........2007-05-03

If you're a fan of MST3K,then you'll want to get this right away,in case they lose the rights to some of the movies and of course, some of their funniest episodes are right here.If you love bad movies and have never seen MST3K,then what are you waiting for?? Do some movies that are really bad give you nightmares or shake your head as to what you've just seen??Then, let MST3K take that away from you and let them make fun,so you won't have to.Their pain is your enjoyment..I must admit that watching RING OF TERROR wasn't easy, but at least MST3K was there to make it more enjoyable. Thanks guys!! This is a great collection from a show that was nothing short of pure genius..Funny stuff indeed.Looking forward to each volume. Not only for classic episodes from MST3K,but the extras Rhino will include as well..Keep up the great work!!!

5 out of 5 stars Another great MST3K Set.......2007-04-27

This MST3k set contains three Joel episodes from the Comedy Central years, and on Mike Episode fro the Sci Fi years. The episodes are:
Ring of Terror. A film about as terrifying as stale bread, it is about a college student (who looks like he is middle age) who goes into a crypt as a faternity initation, and dies of fright. A good Season 2 episode.
2. The indistructible man. The great horror film star Lon Chaney Jr stars as a convict who is executed. Two scientists take his body for expriments. They bring him back to life and he kills them. He then goes out to kill those responisble for his execution. Joel and the bots roast this one without mercy.
3. Tormented. A Bert I Gordon "classic". The main character, Tom Stewart is engaged to be married. His former girlfreind, Vi, is upset about his engagement, and one night when they are on top of a lighthouse, she falls to her death, and Tom did nothing to save her. Her ghost starts to haunt him, saying "Tom Stewart killed me over and over. Tom kills a man who finds out about what happened atop the lighthouse, and Tom dies after falling from the lighthouse. Another great Joel episode.
4. The Horrors of Spider Island. The next to last episode of MST3k, the plot has a plane load of women that crash into the ocean. They all survive and make it to an island with their male escort. The island has spiders as scary as plush toys, the effects so lame. Mike and the bots really let this joke of a film have it.
All in all, a great set. Keep them comming, Rhino.

One of the proudest claims I can make about my life is being a former Marine, like Maj. Gregory "Gramps" Boyington; albiet an unknown to one of the most famous. (John "The Duke" Wayne wanted to be a Marine & didn't make it!) The only thing that gives me more pride is knowing these heroes respected guys like my sainted Dad, an Army Air Corps pilot, who flew gas & trash over "the Hump" in C-46's & C-47's (the gray cargo plane in the series) from India into China over the Himalayas in support of their combat against the Japs.
I was at NAS Lakehurst in 1978 when this great show aired on commercial T.V. and, even though most of us knew the show was highly 'Hollywoodized', we would still take over the barracks rec room everytime it aired, and would yell & cheer like Limey football fans thru every combat scene in each episode.
With all the second- and third-rate crapola flooding the DVD-TV market these days, it's GREAT to see DVD's of a show worth the expense hit the shelves, and I really hope the entire series will be issued sooner or later (PREFERREDLY SOONER!!!!!!)

Description

Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs! The adventures or misadventures of the Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner Sister, Dot, who were so crazy that the studio execs locked them away in the water town at the Studio. The witty, slapstick humor with pop culture parodies and cartoon wackiness is on DVD for the first time ever with 25 fantastic Animaniacs episodes.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Zany to the max ! (As usual...).......2007-06-30

Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are back and bustin' out with 25 new-to-DVD episodes in five discs of hilarity !

The wacky Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister, as well as Doctor Scratchansniff, Slappy Squirrel, Skippy Squirrel, Rita, Runt, Buttons, Mindy, Pesto, Bobby, Squit, Randy Beaman, Chicken Boo, Katie Kaboom, Minerva Mink, and a gaggle of other original characters are gonna have you bursting out in laughs whenever you like. Like the first two volume sets, expect a ton of fun with more parodies, puns, schticks, lampoons, and songs more than you can shake a slapstick at !

Some of the funniest episodes include "The Warners and the Beanstalk", "Yes, Always" featuring Pinky and the Brain, "Wakko's Gizmo", "Woodstock Slappy" featuring Slappy Squirrel, "Baloney and Kids", "Lookit the Fuzzy Heads", "The Warners' 65th Anniversary Special", "The Mindy 500" featuring Mindy and Buttons, "Pigeon on the Roof" featuring the Goodfeathers, "Super Strong Warner Siblings", "Deduces Wild", "A Hard Day's Warners", and "The Kid in the Lid". Fun songs of the series include "I'm Cute", "Schnitzelbank", "A Quake, a Quake!", "U.N. Me", and "The Presidents Song".

If you thought those episodes (and much more) were cool, they've thrown in TWO bonus features in the set ! They are "They Can't Help It If They're Cute, They're Just Drawn That Way" (an interview with the artists and designers of the award-winning series) and "They're Totally Insane-y In Cadence with Richard Stone" (a tribute to Richard Stone, the great music composer of the series).

The Animaniacal third volume of this rabble-rousing romp of an animated TV series will be a great addition to your cartoon collections, as does the Volumes one and two sets. I certainly hope volume four is on the way eventually.

1 out of 5 stars Decline of Warner Brothers............2007-06-30

When I saw this series, I thought it was stupid, bad casting, bad animation, bad writing, bad jokes, and was not the least bit funny.

Now seeing them in these rather cheap DVD packages only makes me more convinced that the whole show on the whole was the biggest joke in animation in recent years.

5 out of 5 stars Yeah, There Could Be Packaging Improvements BUT...........2007-06-22

Don't let the packaging or bonus features dissuade you from buying this show. Animaniacs works on a number of levels, can be appreciated by kids & adults alike and even though this gets to the later episodes where Pinky & the Brain have their own show, there are still some very good episodes on here (see them for yourself).

Be happy that the sets are UNCUT and are split into scenes based on the shorts. If you don't like a particular character, you can skip that one's cartoons & go on to the ones you DO like. My husband & I love being able to skip shorts we don't like & go on to stuff we DO like such as The Warners, Slappy Squirel & the Goodfeathers. The animation department at Warner Bros. has been doing a spectacular job on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection sets, Droopy, & this series. (I can't speak for every single animated series by Warner Bros. but I own these). This effort needs to be encouraged, not poo pooed by people who whine about packaging & bonus features. At least the Animaniacs sets have CONSISTENT PACKAGING, unlike the 4th Golden Collection set. Finally, be happy that Warner Bros. is putting this out UNCUT & preserving the integrity of the work.

3 out of 5 stars Great Cartoons, bad casing and not enough bonus features.......2007-06-21

I love the animaniacs, but Warner Brothers needs to understand that this is still there propperty and it needs to be treated with respect. Therefor, they need to fix the casing so we don't have the discs lying on top of each other otherwise the DVD might crack and break. Secondly Bonus features are scarce how about the feature length movie "Wakko's Wish" as a bonus?

Overall, this collection is Sweet and Sour it's not bad, but you can see what could be done to make it better!

5 out of 5 stars NARF!!!!!!.......2007-06-11

pinky and the brain has to be my favorite cartoon of all time. from bizzare plans to take over the world to even more bizarre plans to make those bizzare plans work, pinky and the brains shenanigans never get old. i grew up watching pinky and the brain, and they never get old. Strange and interesting characters, ranging from brains nemesis snowball, to pinky's horse/girlfriend, as well as the occasional anamaniac apperances, round out the outrageous cast of the show. The joy that they seem to take in slamming bill clinton and other famous figure (although mostly clinton), is just so infectious that you cant help but laugh. And even better are the deep themes that appear if you watch closely enough, but dont affect the hilarity of the show if you dont notice them, makes the show fun to watch for everyone. i even wrote a paper on one of the episodes for my compostion class. there will never be another cartoon of pinky and the brains caliber. this show is the perfect thing to enjoy with your children and friends. it may take some convincing to get them to watch, but once they do they will be hooked.
A Pinky and the Brain fan For life!

5 out of 5 stars World Domination -Round 3.......2007-05-31

By the time this show reached its third season, the joke was getting a little thinly spread. The plots became further away from the initial concept of two lab mice wanting to take over the world and more a showcase for the two lead characters' interaction. This however is not a criticism.
In TV the word 'formula' is dreaded. However, here the characters remain so endearing that the blueprint of every plot being vitually the same did not matter.
Most episodes followed this arc: -
1. Brain has a bizarre idea as to how to take over the world
2. To carry out this plan some equipment/money is needed
3. Brain comes up with an even more bizarre way to get said equipment/money
4. The plan fails due to Pinky's stupidity
5. The initial plan to take over the world is abandoned
6. Start over tomorrow night
Although there are exceptions, that basically sums up this and the previous two seasons but as the saying goes - If ain't broke don't fix it - and this formula was one that bore a lot of comedy fruit.
This show certainly beats some of the dross that graces our screens these days and had the nerve to demand that its audience had some intelligence.
Not laugh-a-minute but still a classic.
Ps .
I still can't believe that no-one has decided to revive these characters to star in a live-action movie (with CGI P&B of course).

Pinky and the Brain, Vol. 3

Great cartoon series co produced by the superb Steven Spielberg. this series is about a lab mouse that is bent on world domination and the other lab mouse pinky who ends up screwing the plans of his beloved friend brain. cheese, world domination, politics, and a witty sense of humour is the name of the game in this great cartoon series. if you like political satire, comedy, with two lab mice then this is the cartoon for you.
thumbs up to steven spielberg and the rest of the crew that were involved in this outlandish series of world events according to mice.

In its second season, Irwin Allen's science-fiction-adventure series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea shifted its tone from a mostly serious program based around stories of Cold War intrigue to an out-and-out fantasy show, complete with monsters, ghosts, and time travel. By the launch of its third season (1966-67), that format was firmly in place (solidified, no doubt, by the success of Allen's similarly themed Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel, which were also running at the same time), and the crew of the Seaview battled all manner of bizarre creatures over the course of the 13 episodes compiled in this three-disc set, including werewolves, radioactive plant creatures, dinosaurs, scores of aliens, and even a spook or two. Critics and first-season Voyage fans have decried these episodes for decades, but there's no denying that their child-like charms remain intact, even as the special effects age most ungracefully; highlights, such as they were, for the first half of season 3 include "Werewolf" (Richard Basehart's Admiral Nelson contracts a virus that turns him into a wolfman; this storyline was picked up in the second half of season 3 in "Brand of the Beast"), "Deadly Waters" (Kowalski's brother is trapped in a sub, but the crewman cannot save him), "The Lost Bomb" (the Seaview must deactivate a bomb on the ocean floor before an enemy sub reaches it), and the truly ludicrous "The Plant Man" (evil scientist wants to create an army of leafy green soldiers) and "The Terrible Toys" (aliens use toys to destroy the Seaview). Season 3, Volume 1 is rich with campy fun, and should carry considerable appeal to viewers who remember Voyage fondly from afternoon reruns. The set includes several extras, including interviews with star David Hedison (including an audio-only chat from 1966), galleries of publicity and episode shots (and a glimpse at the Voyage comic book), fan letters, and more. --Paul Gaita

Description

Join the crew of the Seaview aboard their super high-tech submarine, where no mission is too dangerous and no threat is too deadly, be it enemy agents, mad scientists, deadly sea creatures, or impending nuclear disaster.

5 out of 5 stars Warning: Shark Ahead!.......2007-05-10

Great review from Seven "7" above.
I'll only add that if the whole of season three didn't make the show jump the shark, then the episode "The Shadowman" certainly did. But I kept on watching right to the very end of the series. Bought and paid for. Hooked for life. If anybody cares, my favorite episode of all time was "The Death Clock" from season four. The wildest, crazyist episode of the entire series.

5 out of 5 stars NOT THE BEST BUT THE BEST.......2007-04-29

Something funny happened to VTTBOTS during the fall of 1966. Season 3 happened! This season was far inferior as compared to seasons 1 and 2 in terms of storylines, production and overall direction, in other words due to budget cuts it fell off drastically. However, as ironic as it may sound this was the season that had to happen. Season 3 in so many ways turned out to be the defining moment for the series. Without a doubt this is perhaps one of the biggest transformations in terms of changing the entire format of a show that had so convincingly started out dealing with serious up to the date issues in the not so distant future such as cold war politics, and underwater science gone awry with the occasional spin on science fiction thrown in for entertainment value. That said, season 3 is always the main topic of conversation among VTTBOTS fans due to its elevated and unrelenting action from its VTTBOTS IN COLOR intro to the action packed art work detailed during the closing credits. The writers on staff during this year walked to the edge, seemingly jumped and delivered such episodes as THE WAX MEN, THE SHADOWMAN, and DOOMSDAY ISLAND, not to mention the werewolf and mummy episodes. The series had turned the corner, grabbed the torch and ran WILD! Seasons 1 and 2 were quality shows with great everything but this season is remembered for it's over the top monsters, it's colorful special effects and most notably the non stop action that prevailed during every episode. Richard Basehart and David Hedison did their best acting this season because they continued to play it straight and convincing even though it had to be killing them. Know matter how far fetched some of the episodes were (THE TERRIBLE TOYS, DEADLY CLOUD, etc.) they played it straight and to the point unlike the buffoonery of BATMAN and LOST IN SPACE. In reality, VOYAGE had become a live-action cartoon that figured all that mattered was to produce on the edge of your seat entertainment each and every week. Irwin Allen took the seaview and her crew where no one had gone before and boy did he deliver. Season 4, although produced on a higher production scale and somewhat better, continued the same trend. Sadly to say it is a shame that VOYAGE wasn't renewed for a 5th season. It would have been fun to see what they would have given us. However, be that as it may, this show, from episode 1 to episode 110 delivered some of the best action-adventure ever produced, that's why so many years after it's last original episode in 1968 we still can talk so fondly about a CLASSIC series!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars More fun than barrel of octopi.......2007-04-21

Okay, I'll admit it, by any objective measure, this is the weakest season of a fantastic series, but it's also the season I enjoy the most. Why? It's completely over the top... on a low budget. Nothing makes much sense, but who cares. Loads of color and fun and some of he episodes are genuinely great. "The Death Watch" and "Day of Evil" are as good as the series ever produced. So sit back and enjoy the cheese.

4 out of 5 stars Monster Rally.......2007-04-09

By 1966, the start of the third season, Irwin Allen was also working on the second season of Lost in Space and the fisrt season of Time Tunnel. This man only has so many ideas in his head to spread around. All these shows suffered in the later seasons but you ain't seen nothin' yet. Wait until season four. David Hedison said at a recent convention that if Rihcard Basehart and he had known what course the show would take, they never would have signed on. But once you sign on that dotted line, you're in for the duration

5 out of 5 stars Now the Fun Really Begins!.......2007-03-28

After two seasons of mostly serious and plausible adventure, the show takes a hard right turn into monsters and fantasy. Guest stars become less frequent, sometimes only the four main characters appear. One episodes only has three characters. TOTAL! And the monsters! The aliens! The walking toys and killer clowns! The show went wild and anything really goes in this season.

The actors treat it all seriously and even Richard Basehart seems a little bored at time. But a bored Basehart is a lot more entertaining than an alert George Clooney any day.

Is it art? No chance, but it sure is fun!

Okay, let's get one thing straight right off the bat: Family Guy is not, never has been, and never will be, The Simpsons. Nor is it South Park, King of the Hill, or any one of a number of other shows on Adult Swim. But yes, it is in many ways a rip-off of those other shows (especially The Simpsons; let's not even pretend otherwise). But so what? By now, you either think the show's funny, or you don't, and the derivativeness either bothers you, or it doesn't. Volume 4 is likely to just cement your feelings one way or the other, because this collection features some of the funniest, and the most offensive material yet. It's also the most cohesive. The show has always been incredibly erratic, turning on a dime to fit in all those jokes from out of the blue that start with Peter saying "Boy, this is worse than that time when..." But by now, the writers and series creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane have figured out how to more seamlessly integrate them into the show, and that's just what it needed to really come together. In fact, the extra attention being paid to the show recently in the form of swipes from The Simpsons and especially South Park (which dedicated an entire episode to trying to kill off Family Guy) is evidence that this is probably the peak for the series. This volume is 14 episodes, and stand-outs include "The Courtship of Stewie's Father," which gives more face time to creepy old man Herbert (brilliantly voiced by Mike Henry), and "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Fonz," in which Peter starts his own church dedicated to Fonzie from Happy Days. Of course, there is still the lingering question of who the real star of Family Guy is: Peter or Stewie? The little football-head gets his moments to shine in "Sibling Rivalry," in which he battles with half-brother Bertram, and... well, pretty much every other episode, as he continues to get many of the memorable lines. Along with the extra features, over 40 deleted scenes, extensive commentaries, and featurettes, you true fans will get more than your share of laughs from this collection, which is what you watch the show for in the first place. --Daniel Vancini

Description

Fasten your sofa belts for another fiendishly futile attempt at world domination for Stewie-and a diaper full of fun for "Family Guy" fans around the globe! Boasting laughs as big as Peter's waistline, these 14 hilarious episodes from Season Four find television's most outrageous animated family in all sorts of comically compromising situations. Don't miss out on this Fox TV DVD best seller--a 3 disc set available for $39.98 & $54.98.

3 out of 5 stars the downward spiral of Family Guy.......2007-05-22

in my opinion, they should've left Family Guy alone when it died in it's prime. It's used to be so good. Now episodes are 50% flashbacks and "manatee gags". It's seems like Family Guy is totally dependent on them. Sure, it's no Family Guy episode without them, but do they really have to be as overhauled as they are now? And most of them are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. The chicken fights for example. It was a bit funny at first, but it got old. And now Family Guy is even becoming pc. Peter is now legally classified as mentally retarded. What happened to the stupid, childlike, but lovable oaf that was Peter Griffin? Now he's the retard that gets breaks from everybody because of it. Meg used to be the ignored child trying desperately to be cool. Now she is the butt of all jokes and is abused by her family. How you can find any humor in that is beyond me.
Thank god Brian and Stewie haven't changed for me. And the show is still funny at times. It's just not the family guy it used to be.

5 out of 5 stars Best season yet!.......2007-05-15

Okay, maybe it's not technically a season, but the episodes in this set ROCK! Keep up the good work MacFarlane!

5 out of 5 stars Prepare to be aghast.......2007-04-29

If you're like me and you grew up on The Simpsons, then you know that we can probably name all of the characters and recite the dialogue in every episode, and I'm sure at one point at the very peak of our obsession even attempted to memorize the episode numbers and all of that fun stuff. The Simpsons are funny. Family Guy is spit out your drink, choke on your food, hit your head on the table on your way to the floor funny. South Park is fine and even though just the sight of Cartman dressed like Dog the bounty hunter is enough to make you piss your pants with laughter and joy, the preachiness is overwhelming. Family Guy is for people who like their comedy without the baggage (Yes I am aware of the fact that they sometimes lampoon ol' Dubya but honestly who wouldn't? Satirically speaking, he's a sitting duck). The humor reminds me of a young Simpsons, back before product placement turned The Simpsons into a 20 minute commercial. In all honesty, brace yourself, Family Guy is funnier than The Simpsons or South Park ever were. However I will admit that Family Guy has not yet been on so long that it has gone dry. I do hope that when it becomes old and only sort of funny and starts losing control of its bladder all over your new carpet, the writer's will have the courage and the mercy to take the show out back behind the house and put one between it's eyes. But for now, Family Guy has dethroned The Simpsons and keeps getting funnier. Viva La Individuo de Familia!!

5 out of 5 stars What The Deuce?!.......2007-04-25

Okay, first things first. No, Family Guy isn't The Simpsons, or King Of The Hill, or South Park. Amazon is right in that way. Family Guy is way, way better. I am a Simpson fan, but could never latch onto the other two. Family Guy is a show unlike no other I have seen. Very few shows can have a barrel full of laugh out loud moments in every episode. FG is one of those. After it's cancelation, FG came back stronger, funnier, and pushing the envelope more than ever. This second volume of season 4 episodes hits the mark every time. While The Simpsons is still funny, it can't match the outrageous, over the top lunacy and humor that FG has going. FG is filled with funny, interesting, endearing characters(unlike a Stone/Parker series, which apparently had an episode trying to kill FG off. Jealousy is an ugly thing). This box set is further proof that Seth MacFarlane know funny, and know it's audience. First off, let's go through the special features. The best thing about this set is that there are 5 uncensored episodes here. If Peter or whoever says the "S" word or drops the "F" bomb, you hear it. Peter Shin shows you how to draw Stewie. Adam West gets a tour of Family Guy central(by Mike Henry), and there is a featurette on directing the show. Now, the episodes themselves. There is a lot to be enjoyed here. "PTV" has Peter starting his own network after too much censoring on regular TV. A classic. "The Fat Guy Strangler" has Lois's brother visiting and revealing his penchant for stalking the obese. "You May Know Kiss The..Uh...Guy Who Receives" is filled with expected jokes about Brian's gay cousin getting married. There is a spoof of 'Poltergeist' in "Petergeist", and Brian The Dog heads back to campus in "Brian Goes Back To College", while Peter and his crew become the new A-Team. Good stuff. As usual, there are a number of commentaries on episode by cast and crew. The show is quite brilliant in it's execution of razor sharp jokes, pop culture references, and break aways to something that happened or something the characters did. This has always been a strong suit of the show, and it hasn't lost it's edge, or humor. FG continues to surprise me with some of the things they say and do. A lot of the time I can't believe they get away with it, unlike other shows who seem to do these things just for the noticeability factor and forget to factor the "funny" in. In the world of Peter Griffin and his brood, things can go on for many more years. Let's hope Fox knows this and keeps Family Guy around for a long time to come.

4 out of 5 stars If you have bad knees, beware!!.......2007-06-30

This is a good exercise program and can definitely be used to lose weight and firm up, but if you have bad knees you absolutely do NOT want this video. It is full of deep lunges, squats and jumping jacks. After doing the first program one time, I injured my left knee and was on the couch for a week. Good vibe in the video, though - it's nice seeing the participants struggling as hard as you are to do the exercises. And Bob has a great, fun personality. Just watch out for those knees!!

5 out of 5 stars I love this DVD! Best excerise tape ever!.......2007-06-27

I used to go to the gym all the time before having my first baby. I went on the treadmills and eliptical, but I really loved the strength training classes. Since having my baby, I have no time for the gym. I have a few excerise tapes (Cardio Yogo, Pilates, Abs of Steel, etc.) but I've never really enjoyed them much. I read that this DVD lets you customize your workout and has short (20-25 minute) workouts for strength training, low-intensity, high-intensity, bootcamp and then warm-up and cool-down/stretch. I liked the idea of picking from this menu and working out for 20-25 minutes or longer, depending on how much time I had.

Well --- I love every one of these work-outs. Especially bootcamp. It is difficult but short. They are interval based, so you'll do push-ups or squats or punching for a minute, and then switch. That way, you get to work a different muscle/area when you reach your limit. I have beeen recommending this to everyone. Plus, I love Trainer Bob (he is so funny) and his rapport with the "biggest loser" team. I like that they are real looking people sweating and complaining (a little) instead of barbies in leotards with plastic smiles.

5 out of 5 stars Worked for me.......2007-06-19

I have tried them all, and I really like this DVD. I recognize the people in it and the sessions are short and not intimidating. The exercises are for bigger folks not skinny, perfect hardbodies. It feels more like a realistic workout & plan, and I have been able to stick with it and even look forward to it. Trainer Bob is motivating and it's funny.

4 out of 5 stars Good Workout........2007-06-04

This DVD workout is good. I only gave it 4 starts because I have only dont one workout so far.

I started with the begginer workout. It was a good workout. I was sweating like never before. I cant wait to get to the other workouts.

I like the fact that I could follow along right off the bat. The moves have modified versions incase you need them.

Bob is a nice trainer. He is very encouraging. He is always reminding you to do what you can and to hold in your abs.

I would reccomend this dvd to anyone who wants to start at a good easy pace and work up.

I like the fact that the cast couldnt keep up...I didnt feel like I was alone.

Surely even the French, with their legendary love of all things Jerry Lewis, will be sated by the Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis Collection: Vol. 2, a three-disc package containing five comedy-musicals released on DVD for the first time. It would be a supreme stretch to call any of the five films in question (You're Never Too Young, Artists and Models, Living It Up, Pardners, and Hollywood or Bust) a classic, but then, anyone looking for challenging storylines and deep characterizations probably wouldn't be here in the first place. What the films offer instead are various breezy diversions, in the form of Martin, the suave, smooth talking cad and crooner; a parade of lovely young women (Dorothy Malone, Anita Ekberg, Janet Leigh, and Shirley MacLaine among them); some terrific musical numbers that are the highlights of their respective films; and, of course, the antics of Lewis, whose capacity for slapshtick and mugging is apparently inexhaustible. By this time (the mid-1950s), the two had already fit comfortably into their respective personae, with Lewis as the naïve, ingenuous rube and Martin right there to take advantage of him. In Artists and Models, Martin's aspiring painter cops ideas from the frenzied dreams of his comics-obsessed roommate (Lewis, natch) and creates a hit comic of his own, a simple story that's derailed by an absurd and unnecessary subplot involving the U.S. government and some enemy agents. Living It Up, adapted from an earlier musical called Nothing Sacred, finds Lewis cajoled by Martin, his doctor (talk about a stretch!), into pretending that he's suffering from radiation poisoning so they can both enjoy a lavish trip to New York courtesy of a newspaper trying to boost circulation by playing up the "dying" man's plight. Hollywood or Bust, a combination road picture and gentle spoof of the movie biz, casts Martin as a gambler and con man accompanying film fanatic Lewis on a trip to Tinseltown, while Pardners is a Wild West romp ("Jerry Lewis as a gunslinger" about sums it up) and You're Never Too Young puts Lewis totally in his element as he impersonates a 12-year-old boy in order to escape bad guy Raymond Burr. The plots are thin, at best, and the songs are hardly Oscar caliber. Still, the two stars have an undeniable chemistry, and the musical set pieces are highly entertaining, most notably a sort of pas de duh (sic) between Lewis and MacLaine in Artists and Models and an eye-popping, show-stopping dance number in Living It Up. In the end, it all basically comes down to one's capacity to endure Lewis' manic mannerisms (it's worth noting that by Hollywood or Bust, the pair's last collaboration, he's pretty thoroughly upstaged by a Great Dane). If even this cornucopia isn't sufficient, perhaps a move to France is in order. The set contains no bonus material. --Sam Graham

Product Description

LIVING IT UP: The 1954 Martin-and-Lewis romp Living It Up is an amusing remake of the 1937 comedy classic Nothing Sacred. More specifically, it is the film version of the Broadway musical Hazel Flagg, which was based on Nothing Sacred. The heroine of the original undergoes a sex change to become feckless Homer Flagg (Jerry Lewis), who is led to believe that he's dying of radiation poisoning. Manhattan newspaperwoman Wally Cook (Janet Leigh), hoping to improve circulation of her paper, convinces her boss, Oliver Stone (Fred Clark), to fete Homer as a hero with an all-expenses-paid trip to the Big Apple. Meanwhile, Homer learns from local doctor Steve (Dean Martin) that he isn't dying at all. But Steve talks Homer into taking advantage of the celebrity treatment bestowed on him by Wally, and a good time is had by all — until medical specialist Dr. Egelhofer (Sig Rumann) insists upon examining Homer. Highlights include a hilarious bit at Yankee Stadium, and an energetic jitterbug number featuring Jerry Lewis and Sheree North. The handful of songs retained from Hazel Flagg include "Every Street's a Boulevard in Old New York."
YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG: You're Never Too Young is a slapstick-with-songs remake of the 1944 Ray Milland/Ginger Rogers vehicle The Major and the Minor. Dean Martin plays the Milland part, while Ginger's shoes are filled by...Jerry Lewis? Lewis plays an apprentice barber who inadvertently crosses a homicidal jewel thief (Raymond Burr), and equally inadvertently hightails it out of town with the crook's jewels in his possession. Desperate to escape the crook's clutches, and lacking the necessary funds for a train ticket, Lewis disguises himself as a 12-year-old boy so he can travel half fare. He latches onto Dean, a music teacher heading for an all-girls school. After innumerable routines sparked by Lewis's adolescent disguise, the jewel thief catches up with him, leading to a rollicking climactic speedboat chase. Dean Martin has plenty of opportunities to serenade leading lady Diana Lynn (who'd played a supporting role in The Major and the Minor), while Jerry Lewis is in peak form doing his usual "waah-waah-waah" schtick. The original Billy Wilder/Charles Brackett script for The Major and the Minor was reshaped into You're Never Too Young by future bestselling novelist Sidney Sheldon.
ARTISTS AND MODELS: Bearing very little relation to the 1937 Paramount musical of the same name, Artists and Models is a lavish, girl-filled vehicle for the popular team of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Martin plays Rick Todd, a comic-book artist who is under fire from his publisher (Eddie Mayehoff), who complains that Rick's work isn't gory enough. Lewis plays Eugene Fullstack, Rick's roommate, who while asleep dreams up elaborate comic-book plots and garishly costumed superheroes. Eugene's nightmares help Rick become a success; meanwhile, our two heroes romance their luscious neighbors, artist Dorothy Malone and rambunctious model Shirley MacLaine (who during one song wrestles Eugene to the floor and sits on his chest!) Eugene's overworked imagination somehow attracts the attention of a group of Russian spies, who attempt to abduct Eugene during the annual Artists and Models Ball. Director Frank Tashlin uses Artists and Models as an excuse for some of the wildest sight-gags seen in a mid-1950s film. At one point, the director contrives to stuff a gag in Shirley MacLaine's mouth. Tashlin also exhibits his ongoing fascination with female breasts and legs by giving ample screen time to the natural attributes of co-stars Anita Ekberg and Zsa Zsa Gabor. One of the best of the Martin/Lewis efforts, Artists and Models suffers only from being about 20 minutes too long.
PARDNERS: This Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis romp is liberally based on the 1936 Bing Crosby film Rhythm on the Range. Set around 1910, the film stars Lewis as the pampered son of female tycoon Agnes Moorehead. Yearning to return to the Wild West where his father was a famed peacekeeper, Lewis purchases a prize bull, destined for the ranch inherited by rodeo star Dean Martin. It so happens that Martin and Lewis' late fathers were "pardners", so Martin takes it upon himself to protect Lewis from the various and sundry tough hombres in the region. Through a series of bizarre plot convolutions, Lewis gains a reputation as a rootin' tootin' gunslinger, and in his hubris he decides to round up a gang of outlaws headed by Jeff Morrow. As a result, he nearly gets himself blown to smitherines, but Martin shows up in the nick of time to rescue Lewis and help him capture the bad guys. Lori Nelson and Jackie Loughery supply the film's peripheral romantic angle. Pardners ends with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis turning to the camera and promising that they'll keep on making pictures for their faithful fans; ironically, the team was breaking up even while the cameras were turning.
HOLLYWOOD OR BUST: Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made their last joint film appearance in the girl-filled musical Hollywood or Bust. The thinnish plot finds inveterate film fan Jerry making a cross-country journey to Tinseltown for the purpose of meeting his favorite screen star, the buxom Anita Ekberg (the film's title, need it be added, has a double meaning). Dean goes along for the ride, hoping to expand his bankroll during a Las Vegas stopover. The boys are joined by a third traveller, an enormous Great Dane named Mr. Bascomb; along the way, the trio becomes a quartet when pretty Pat Crowley hitches a ride. The finale takes place in Hollywood, naturally, as Jerry wreaks havoc at a film studio which looks suspiciously like Paramount. All reports indicate that Hollywood and Bust was an unhappy shoot, with Jerry Lewis behaving so obstreperously that director Frank Tashlin ordered him off the set and told him to go home until he learned to behave himself; to this day, Lewis cannot bring himself to watch the film. Happily, the animosity between the two stars never comes across on screen, and as a result Hollywood or Bust is a most enjoyable diversion.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The Madcap Millieu.......2007-06-28

It was considered rather odd when C.S. Lewis, in the already oddly titled, but very readable book, An Experiment in Criticism, suggested not that there were different kinds of books, but different kinds of readers. As regards Jerry Lewis films, I'd suggest that there are different sorts of viewers. Briefly that means one sort like his films and another sort don't. I count myself firmly in the former camp, considering him one of the all time great comic talents. Having said that, however, these films are nevertheless very much of their era.

For one thing, they take that era entirely for granted in a way that other comic films don't. Laurel and Hardy's last film, Utopia, although in black and white, seems yet far more universal than these Lewis/ Martin films. Why? A few reasons come to mind. The easiest thing for Hollywood to write about is Hollywood. In that sense, Hollywood or Bust is the strangest film in this set. Strange because it takes the adventurers so long to get there. Thus it fails both as a road trip picture and the standard "making it in Hollywood" faire. That said, there are many great comic moments, which brings up the next point.

These films were obviously meant to showcase the duo's immense talents. In that sense, they are never acting in a movie as much as the movie is unrolling around them. This sort of star power is virtually unknown today, but in the 'fifties, it could easily cross into various media: movies, TV variety shows (adapted from radio), Las Vegas stand up. The Colgate Comedy Hour, using a format adapted from radio, embroiled the dashing duo in surprisingly long and involved comic sketches. As was the case with The Carol Burnett Show, this comedy could also include pathos and be very moving.

The five films in this set, unlike the first volume, are all in color and all but "Living It Up" are in widescreen format. They date from 1954- 1956, often considered the best years of television, and a unique time in the history of the movies. In general, color didn't make things more realistic, but lighter in tone. Movies didn't have to be good, they just had to have big stars, and be big, splashy productions. For that reason top billing on these films is given to "VistaVision," Paramount's patented theatrical technique.

The only other thing that mattered was the director. For that reason it's often former cartoon director Frank Tashlin. Jerry easily pulls off gags likely first done by Bugs Bunny, but he's almost alone among live stars in that regard. The worst example is in Tashlin's The Glass Bottom Boat, where Doris Day is thrown pell mell into a futuristic kitchen gone wild, as has been done in countless cartoons, and makes it a thoroughly forgettable scene. Likewise, Paul Linde seems to get his drag scene in that film from a Bugs/ Daffy 'toon. Compare this film, with so many random slapstick schticks that Doris can't help be out of her element, with Move Over Darling, where she's entirely in it. Then again, the Norman Taurog directed Pardners in this set comes off extremely well because underlying the extemporaneous antics of Martin and Lewis is an strong story line enabling them to play off of any and all Hollywood wild-west stereotypes.

Arguably, one ought not probe too closely into films meant merely for fun, but watching these films now simply shows how much movies have changed. The main reason is that while these films were meant for the big screen and a Saturday afternoon laugh fest, escapist faire if you will, but packed to give the most bang for the buck, later movies, while launched in theaters, find most of their life on TV. For this reason, the fantasy element in films like Artists and Models seems merely unnerving, breaking what little there is of dramatic tension in the romance scenes. To a degree this is one with Shakespeare, who never let the audience forget, with a wink, that "the play's the thing" and for whom marriage was the sign of a happy ending. My main discovery in this visually dazzling and many- sided film was how well Shirley MacLaine could dance.

Film buffs will have endless comments on these films, and the eight films in volume one make it almost too full to review. That said, the packaging is somewhat puzzling, in that the films are presented in both volumes without extras or commentary. Why isn't there an insert booklet giving some background? At any rate, most of the Lewis and Martin/ Lewis films are at last on DVD, and for one kind of audience (including this reviewer), that's more than enough reason to rejoice.

5 out of 5 stars Two Masterpieces on Here, Unbeatable price.......2007-06-18

HOLLYWOOD OR BUST and (especially) ARTISTS AND MODELS are two of the greatest films of the 1950s. The director of both, Frank Tashlin, was the Hitchcock of lowbrow social satire. Both are at times visually and compositionally amazing.

The other three films are reasonable (at least LIVING IT UP), but Norman Taurog was pretty much a director-for-hire.

The tension between the two stars, for me at least, only makes these films more interesting, as it embodies the dissolution of post-classical Hollywood myth-making.

5 out of 5 stars great transfer quality! very good value/package!.......2007-06-09

Hi Folks
these films look fabulous!! Many of them are VISTAVISION which was the absolute highest grade quality/size negative format from the 50's era.
I'm not going to deduct stars for what Isn't in this set...that's lame...this is 5 very well presented movies with many many laughs..some great songs and loads of fun...for a bit over $20? Geeez , how can you resist?
I can't explain Martin & Lewis to you ...if you don't know their work..start with volume 1 then this one..and don't avoid the Legendary Jerry set as its wonderful as well. Kids out there? Think Adam Sandler invented that character of his? watch Jerry...
and Dean is still the big brother we all wished we had..cool as heck and very protective of his idiot friend.

5 out of 5 stars Paramount did a great job with this set.......2007-06-07

Martin & Lewis shine in this beautifully put together set of these fun and glossy movies. It's a treat, especially considering that 4 out of the 5 movies are produced in the great widescreen format of VistaVision - so the visual clarity is especially acute, plus all 5 movies are in color which is made fine use of, particularly in the whimsical 'Artists and Models'. The design of the DVD box - which opens up like a triptych - is excellent and includes reproductions of the 5 original movie posters plus a fine montage of stills from the movies. So enjoy 5 entertaining movies with the cool and suave Dean Martin and the manic brilliance of Jerry Lewis.

5 out of 5 stars Missing Batlady?.......2007-05-15

I shall definitely ordering this set (despite the missing movies!),
but - can anyone tell me if "Artists and Models" has had Shirley MacLaine's missing "BatLady" number fully restored???????

That would make this an even better set.
