This 1949 Disney feature has never been available on video in its original form until now. The 68-minute film contains two shorts: The Wind in the Willows and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The former is a lively version of Kenneth Grahame's book of animal adventures, including Mr. Toad, a rambunctious sort with a passion for motorcars. Basil Rathbone narrates the story. Sleepy Hollow is the Washington Irving story of a stuffy schoolmaster and his ability to win the love of the fair Katrina from the brutish Brom Van Brunt. Many fans will see a resemblance to Disney's masterpiece created some 40 years later, Beauty and the Beast, in style and story. The end is still scary enough to send youngsters under the table. Bing Crosby supplies the narration, character voices, and songs. The opening number in a library including two stories has been included in this good-looking restoration. The shorts were made in Disney's prime, a year before Cinderella, and the look is wondrous. The exaggeration of Ichabod's skinny frame and his slumping horse is a glorious example. --Doug Thomas
Description
In the great tradition of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS and CINDERELLA, Disney's 11th animated masterpiece, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD, introduced two literary classics to the screen. Through award-winning Disney-animated wizardry, these unforgettable children's stories come together as one fabulous adventure. THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS follows the wild ride of J. Thaddeus Toad, squire of Toad Hall. Smitten with motorcars, the wealthy and reckless sportsman soon drives his close friends Mole, Rat, and Angus MacBadger into a worried frenzy! Then meet Ichabod Crane, the spindly schoolteacher who dreams of sweeping the lovely Katrina off her feet -- until Brom Bones, the town bully, gets involved. Their comic rivalry introduces Ichabod to THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, the fabled Headless Horseman, and a hair-raising, heart-thumping climax. Narrated by legendary stars Basil Rathbone and Bing Crosby, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD is brimming with high-spirited adventure, brilliant animation, and captivating music -- now available for the first time in keeping with Walt's original theatrical vision.

Excellent Disney movie!.......2007-05-24
This DVD has two of my most favorite Disney classics! My Disney collection is complete!
Well Done Disney.......2007-05-13
It's great that Disney are re-releasing their product for todays generation of young children.
I hope they get as much pleasure watching these timeless animated features as I did when I was their age.
i wonder if bing & basil woulda been a good team?.......2007-03-30
financial stress (not to mention ww2) caused the disney studio to give up feature-length animation for most of the 1940s; instead, we frequently got programmers like this double bill based on tales by washington irving ("the legend of sleepy hollow") and kenneth grahame ("wind in the willows"): masterpieces of fiction but only adequate transfers to screen. voiced with some charm by bing crosby and basil rathbone respectively, they are entertaining and inoffensive, tho hardly major works of the disney canon.
good dvd.......2007-03-25
we only watch the headless horseman story and the kids (boys and girls ages 3-9 all like it
One hilarious short and a great spooky one.......2007-03-16
It's strange to see 2 shorts so different and opposing yet fit so well. You know something still resonates with you where you can almost actually nail the timing of it from the dialogue to the songs and specific scenes. Watching both brought back quite a bit of memories and both were still entertaining in their own rights without that kind of aged quality. They were fun and scary at age 6 and they're fun now as well. The only thing I wish was different was the transfer. It's almost like Disney didn't even bother to clean this up like they just slapped on the negative and left it. You get colored dots, specks of dusts and scratches and the image as that flickering quality you might've seen on VHS.
The Wind in the Willows, based on the book by Kenneth Grahame and narrated by Basil Rathbone, follows Mr. Toad, an incredibly impulsive character prone to overspending and just as much in fees who gets into so-called "manias". He spots a motorcar one day and is obsessed to the point where he's framed and thrown in jail. With help from his friends MacBadger, Moley and Rat, he has to get his deed back and prove his innocence. The short is funny and even a bit touching in a couple of places.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, based on the story by Washington Irving and narrated by Bing Crosby, has Ichabod coming to the town of Sleepy Hollow and becomes a school teacher. He falls instantly smitten with Katrina and tries to gain her favor from the brutish, pre-Gaston resident Brom Bones. Brom, to get even with him, tells him the story of the Headless Horseman, a black rider who rides the woods one night a year in search of a head. Even with the controversy they get from parents, Disney can do some pretty heavy scenes, as evidenced by Bambi's mother, the Black Cauldron or the meteor hit from the recent Dinosaur. Add to that is Ichabod's travel through the woods which is an excellent study in sound and imagery to creep you out. Even in older years, it still is an effective scene and most likely the highlight of the whole disc.
This seriously needs a remaster, not simply because of the transfer but also since you get the feeling both stories deserve a better look.

Don Knotts and Tim Conway star in The Private Eyes, a 1980 comedy about two bumbling detectives solving a murder. It's an impressively incompetent affair. Every ancient joke falls with a muffled thud as Knotts and Conway ham their way through the pointless story: The lord and lady of a capacious manor are killed, and the lord's ghost seems to have returned to knock off the staff one by one. There's an austere housekeeper, a snooty butler with compulsive twitches, a sexy upstairs maid, a deformed groomsman, and a buxom young heir to the estate, who of course is going to be in some state of undress before the movie is over. People get killed, their bodies disappear, Knotts and Conway wander aimlessly through secret passageways, dimly seeking some way out of this movie. Conway cowrote the script, so he gets most of the blame; Knotts was probably just happy to have the work. --Bret Fetzer

Loved it.......2007-05-17
My family thought this movie was great. My sister and I loved this movie as kids and were pleased to find it on video. It is a family movie night type of film.
The Private Eyes.......2007-05-08
I received this movie super fast. It is great quality and I have been looking for this movie on DVD for years. Thanks
"You know what my mother used to say to make you throw up?".......2007-05-07
That's one of Tim Conway's lines, which starts a bunch of gross notions that will make you giggle, big time. His silly sense of humor is all over this movie (he cowrote it).
All I can say is, when you bring Tim Conway and Don Knotts together, you are sure to have fun.
They are two of the funniest people ever.
This was one of those flicks that, back in the 80's, came on tv on a Saturday afternoon and you'd watch it and laugh. My favorite running gags are the pigeons and the "alarm gun".
This movie is right up my alley, along with stuff from Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Danny Kaye, Martin Short, Carol Burnett, Steve Martin, and also Woody Allen's early films.
And the fact that it's a broad homage to whodunits is gravy. It's a great companion to Murder By Death, and Clue.
The Private Eyes.......2007-01-29
This movie was a wonderful movie for most families. Don Knotts and Tim Conway are two of the craziest people and you put them together, anything can happen and usually does. I recommend this movie for family night.
Hilarious.......2007-01-10
I would recommend this movie for those who love Tim Conway and Don Knotts!

Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze are the passionate lovers whose romance is undone when the latter is murdered during a bungled hit arranged by a rival. The clever concept by screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin (director of My Life) extends outward into comedy (Swayze's character communicates through a sassy medium played by Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Oscar for this role), horror (the afterlife is populated by hell-bound demons and the like), and romantic complications (a handsome suitor, played by Tony Goldwyn, comes on to Moore while Swayze's spirit is still hanging around). Directed by Jerry Zucker, previously best known for codirecting Airplane! and similar broad comedies, Ghost is a careful balancing act of strong commercial elements, but at heart it is a timeless Hollywood tearjerker that easily gets under one's skin. --Tom Keogh
Description
Patrick Swayze plays a ghost who teams with a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) to uncover the truth behind his murder - and to rescue his sweetheart (Demi Moore) from a similar fate. "The word of mouth is that Ghost is a must-see romance," says Entertainment Weekly. Ditto to that!

Low Expectations, Great Impressions.......2007-02-21
I'm not sure why I never watched "Ghost" before until last night. For some reason, I didn't pay much heed to it when it was first released and never thought it was worth watching on TV. I'm glad I gave it a chance because this is a GOOD movie. What makes it good is its' skillful mixture of suspense, romance, comedy, and the supernatural. That would seem to be too much to tackle for one movie but we get it all in the right balance. I was drawn rather quickly into the movie and got to where I couldn't wait to see what was coming next. There were a few "convenient" capabilities that these ghosts had that were necessary for the story to work. I'm a rather pragmatic person but, by the time these things came up, I was so caught up in the story that I WANTED these things to be possible.
Obviously, the writer and director deserve accolades for their work and the actors do as well. I wanted to make note of the quality of acting because it was probably the cast that left me uninterested in watching "Ghost". I was prepared to be unimpressed in particular with Whoopie Goldberg so I want to confess that I thought her Best Supporting Actress Oscar was well-deserved. I figure that I was one of the last persons in America to see "Ghost" but if there are others of you out there who still haven't seen it, give it a look; it's well worth it.
Funny, Suspenseful, and Soooo Romantic.......2007-02-19
This definitely goes on my list of all-time-favorites. Demi Moore is beautiful as the grieving girlfriend, while Patrick Swayze projects the appropriate anger, sex appeal, and bafflement as the dead boyfriend, now a ghost. He badgers Whoopi Goldberg into helping him communicate with Demi.
Whoopi is funny! The scenes between the two lovers (before and after death) are quite touching and romantic. The action is dramatic and suspenseful as Swayze realizes who had him killed and that Moore is now in danger.
Great Movie!
Living with a lost loved one!.......2007-01-31
I thought this was a great love story, that I would love to have happen to me if I lost a love the way she did, don't get me wrong I would be so afraid a first, but I would adjust and be glad to have him back in any way that I can.
The 3 Stars Is Because I Am Extremely Skeptical About This Disc.......2006-12-26
I know it's a few months away (till this disc is released), but I have a lot of questions and skeptical thoughts surrounding this release. Didn't they already release this DVD a few years ago? What more could they add that the previous release didn't already have? Do they really think people are going to repurchase this film on DVD just for a couple of featurettes? For me, there better be a commentary by the actors (not the director & screenwriter...they already had their commentary). I'd like to hear Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, & Whoopi Goldberg sitting down watching this film and talking about the experience. I'd also like to see some deleted scenes and outtakes. I can't imagine the film was made without a couple of scenes excised (for pacing or otherwise). I'd also like to see some archival footage of awards shows (Golden Globes & Oscars...particularly Whoopi's acceptance speech and Bruce Joel Rubin's speech for Best Original Screenplay). Last but not least I'd also like to see every bad review written (and spoken) about this film compared with every good review (written & spoken) and see who was totally right and totally wrong (Eh hem...Siskel & Ebert...well, Ebert... Siskel's dead...can't fault him much...not posthumously anyway). Those would be reason to buy this film again on DVD. Not a couple of retrospective featurettes (most likely carried over from the previous release) and a commentary track from the director & screenwriter (also carried over from the previous release). That is not worth anyone's money or time. Paramount...are you listening? If you're not doing something along the lines of what I just described then scrap this project! It's the right thing to do!
One of the Best Movies of All Time.......2006-12-03
This movie has a little everything that will appeal to just about everyone. There's plenty of comedy, lots of romance, a bit of action and suspense and a more or less happy, tear-jerker ending. Not to mention the beauty of a young Demi Moore. And as a plus, the paranormal aspect gets plausible treatment. If you haven't seen this, I say you 'must'. Go out and buy it to watch over and over.

Most contemporary horror movies depend upon a series of sudden jolts, executed with the finesse of a cattle-prod, to keep their audiences awake. The Ring Two offers something far more interesting: A slow but relentless creepiness that might just linger in your mind when the movie is over. A few months after the events of the first Ring, journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive) and her son Aidan (David Dorfman, A Wrinkle in Time) have fled to a small town on the Oregon coast to get over their awful experience with a cursed videotape. Of course, a copy of the videotape finds its way there, and soon the troubled spirit of a girl with long, face-obscuring black hair is worming her way into Rachel and Aidan's lives by worming her way into Aidan's flesh. As a story with a coherent beginning, middle, and end, The Ring Two is full of holes; but as a series of surreal and evocative images accumulating into a dislocating sense of dread, The Ring Two holds up. In fact, at one point the movie becomes so dreamlike in its flow that it verges on avant-garde. The source of this alluring eeriness is the director, Hideo Nakata, who directed the Japanese Ringu, on which The Ring was based. Also featuring Gary Cole (Office Space) and Sissy Spacek (Carrie). --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as the first one........2007-06-13
If you've seen the first Ring and liked it, you'll be disappointed when you watch the sequel. It seems sort of thrown together and it lacks the mystery the first movie had.
Let's start off with what I liked about this movie. First of all, Naomi Watts is in this. She is one of my favorite actresses and she does a great job in this film. Second there are a few laugh out loud moments (when Rachel tries to tell Samara that she's not her mommy).
So what's not to like about this movie? As I said above, it seems like it was thrown together. Like the creators knew that Ring fans wanted another movie but they didn't know how to make a good one so they took bits and pieces out of the first movie and tried (and failed) to come up with something that would appeal to Ring fans. Second, the mystery is gone. Yes, you have your typical scenes that make you go "What does that mean?" but they don't really tie in together. Or if they do tie in together, compared to the first movie, they don't do enough to make you WANT to figure out what's going on. In the first movie, we were trying to figure out what happened to Samara. In this movie, we're trying to figure out... wait, what is it we're trying to figure out? Nothing. Rachel has to try to get rid of Samara but where's the shock and mystery? It's gone.
My rating: 3/5 stars. It's a disappointment compared to the first movie. However, it's an ok horror flick when you don't compare it other movies. Be sure to watch the first Ring before you see this one as some parts may not make sense to those who haven't seen the first one.
Shouldn't have made this sequel.......2007-06-09
I did like the first Ring because it was something a bit different.
This one was a pure yawner. Wasn't really scary. Story was slow and didn't make much sense. So Sam takes over his body during one of Hadyen dreams. So she must drown here son in the bathtub to rid her spirtit from his body. Makes sense? Not to me.
I have had scary experiences while playing Fatal Frame on my PS2 than this movie.
Scary? absolutely NOT.......2007-04-25
they should have stopped at the first one. this movie is horrible, not scary and actually silly. It made no sense at all! don't waste your time buying it nor renting it. it's not even worth the tape it was put on.
This IS the rare great sequel!.......2007-02-10
Most sequels are little more than a cheeper rehash of the original, but this superior sequel actually may be better than it's original in that the story is better explained and the history is more the focus. Everything that made the first movie great is here in this one as well, but this film seems to have a clearer vision and brings far more depth to all of the principal characters. Like the first one, there is no gore or bloodshed; it is just good old fashioned, spooky, atmospheric story-telling. This whole film is slickly executed and has a definitive ending and I hope that it is the end as a third go-around would be rather lame in comparison to this film and the original.
This film really does bring an appropriate end to the story which by this point has reached an almost mythical stature. We learn in much more detail about Sumara's life before her murder and, more importantly, what it is that she really wants. Neither of these aspects are explored enough in the first film. While both films are very satisfying in their conclusion, this one is moreso as we better understand the reasons behind Sumara's behavior and why she was murdered in the first place.
This film is nothing less than riveting. I and my family, thanks to the PG-13 rating for its disturbing images and not for gore or sex, totally enjoyed this very effective chiller.
The Ring-Ptooey.......2007-01-09
Ok, Ok,Ok we all know sequels rarely ever hold up to the original, more often than not they are tired retreads made simply for a quick buck. Credit, then, the makers of The Ring 2 with at least trying to sort of take the story in a new direction and bringing in the Japanese director of the original Ringu(Hideo Nataka) to try and give it some cred...however thats all the credit thats due for it. In fact after sitting through this lifeless, uninspired mess, I feel like the movie put itself firmly into debt.
The basic plot of the movie centers around(guess who) Samaya,Saria, whatever again attempting to broadcast herself into peoples homes(in an intro not nearly as tension filled and creepy as the first american Ring) and when thwarted by a visibly paycheck driven Naomi Watts, decides "Hey! maybe this whole T.V. thing isn't for me.besides Im sick of watching the same shows over and over again, you know what I'll do, I'll possess the most annoyingly bland child I can and sit around and call my mommy Mommy and pretend to be scary." Thats basically the gist of it.
Apart though from the plot, the movie contains several of the most ill-conceived attempts at chills Ive seen in a major Horror film with the pedigree that this one has. Im not just talking about stuff that isn't scary, I'm talking about stuff that goes more towards laughibly bad than anything I've seen since Battlefield Earth(which some argue was tongue-in-cheek anyway which just makes this that much worse).Case in point,Naomi Watts finds out Malaria, sinatra, whatever is again trying to creep out of that darned VHS tape and has already killed someone so she steals the tape and burns it. Said tape actually curls into something resembling a mouth and actually lets out a death scream.I'm guessing it found out that before Somalia,Monrovia, whatever possessed it it had old episodes of Full House. Second case in point-one of the eerier throughlines in the first movie was Mulva,Pantera's (whatever) ability to inspire fear in horses because of,in life, taking out her anger on them and killing them, therefore making horses terrifed to be around anyone who had seen dread tape or had a hint of the girl on them. They've taken that to the next level here lemme tell ya,with Naomi Watts and said bland boy being attacked by-of all things-computer generated deer. In broad daylight. I love seeing horror movies try different things and unconventional means to illicit fear, but never have I thought(and proudly still don't) that Bambi is scary. This should further prove that CGI effects should stay with dinosaurs and aliens where thay belong. I could go on.... they even give Mrs Watts a nifty little Awnold catch phrase moment at the end(and believe me thats not sarcasm-hasta La Vista baby wouldnt have been that different)... but Im sure my feelings are apparent and please heed my warning. If they really wanted to be scary, instead of Petunia,Mylanta whatever crawling out of her all too familiar well, they would have put this movie on that darned tape instead.

Disturbing images and a few good shocks don't stop The Ring from being a hash of half-baked ideas. It's the kind of frightfest you'll watch to set a chilling mood or spook your susceptible friends, but when you try to sort it out, this well-mounted American remake (of the 1998 Japanese hit Ringu, based on Koji Suzuki's popular novel) collapses into a heap of incoherent parts. The negligible plot follows a Seattle reporter (Naomi Watts) as she investigates the death of her niece, the victim of a mysterious videotape that, according to vague urban legend, causes the viewer's death seven days later. (Fear Dot Com borrowed the same idea while avoiding this film's lofty pretensions.) The reporter, her son, and her estranged boyfriend view the tape, and the film's countdown structure follows them into deepening layers of terror--all quite effective until the movie attempts to explain itself. At that you're better off shutting down your brain and letting the creepy visuals take over. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Really good horror flick!.......2007-06-10
Whether you like horror films or not, you'll LOVE this movie. This is more of a puzzle, whodoneit-type movie than a typical horror movie.
So what's this movie about? Rachel Keller investigates the death of her niece when she learns that her death may have been caused by a tape. Yes, a tape. Apparently, when you watch this particular tape, you receive a phone call that lets you know that you will die in 7 days. Scary, huh? Though it may not sound all that scary, each scene will send chills down your spine when Rachel begins to put together this puzzle that will explain why this tape exists and how she can stop it from killing more people (including her son).
What's to like about this movie? As I said above, this movie will pull you in with every scene. It will have you guessing and reguessing. What makes a good scary movie is not just the killing or the surprising scenes or creepy guys. Scary movies also need to have a bit of mystery in order for it be any good. And THIS is a good movie. Not to mention that Naomi Watts is in it and her acting in this movie is great.
What's not to like? Not much. The swearing and drug talk can be a negative to some people but that's the only thing that I can find remotely bad about this movie.
Watch this movie! You'll really like it!
Nice Attempt.......2007-04-11
This is an American version of a Japanese film based upon a comic. Unlike The Grudge, which was directed by the same director as the Japanese version, this is a very different story from the Japanese (although there is a quick reference to the Japanese version).
There is a rumor of a videotape that can kill people. If you watch it you will get a phone call and be told you will die in seven days. When a reporter's niece dies the reporter starts to look into the story. First she finds out her niece had a secret boyfriend. Then she finds out the boyfriend died at the same moment as the niece. There is definitely something strange going on. As the reporter digs through the story she discovers others died at the same time. Then she learns about, and finds, the videotape. She watches it before believing it.
But soon the reporter does believe, but not before showing it to her ex. She starts to become frantic with trying to find a way to break the curse and that means learning more about it. But when her son watches the videotape she really begins to panic. Now she not only has to solve the mystery for herself, but for her son. Her son seems to have some connection to the video and its images and it somehow revolves around a young girl. It becomes a race against time and the reporter finds a way she thinks will stop the curse. Will she succeed? Will she save the ones she loves? Watch and find out.
The videotape in Ringu makes more sense to me than the one here but the story has been rewritten in such a way as to make it work. Here we have a film that kept the core of the original (the videotape, the ring, and the force behind the curse) and recrafted it into more than just an adaptation. I found this film to be far better than I had thought it would be. A pretty good and creepy film. Check it out.
VERY SCARY AND FRESH!.......2007-03-26
Its nice to see a different horror film these days. I thought this movie was pretty spooky and held my interest from beginning to end. The DVD transfer is excellent. This is a fresh idea for the horror genre.
ENDING OUT OF THIS WORLD.......2007-03-21
THIS IS NOT UR AVERAGE RUN OF THE MILL HORROR FILM....I AM A FANATIC WHEN IT COMES TO HORROR FILMS AND HAVE FELT FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT THE MOVIES THAT ARE BEING FILMED AND DIRECTED HAVE BEEN BASICALLY A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!I MEAN PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY READING THESE SCRIPTS AND FINANCING THEM MUCH TO MY SURPRISE. BUT THIS GEM OF A MOVIE ACTUALLY FREAKED ME OUT. I HAD NOT BEEN SO FREAKED SINCE I DONT KNOW.....CANDYMAN? AND THAT MOVIE HAD GIVEN ME MY FIRST NIGHTMARE IN YRS. I HAD NOT HAD ONE SINCE THE ORIGINAL NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST WAS RELEASED. AND THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING. BUT ANYWAYS THIS MOVIE IS DEFINITELY A MIND F***. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO IS HIGHLY SENSITIVE OR EASILY FRIGHTENED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE ALONE IN THE DARK....AND THE ENDING....I HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MUCH SCREAMING AND SO MANY OBSENTITIES FILL A THEATRE LIKE IT DID AT THIS MOVIES SHOWING,(AND I WAS DEFINITLEY ONE OF THE PEOPLE CURSING AT THE SHEER GENIOUS OF THE CREATOR0)...CUDOS! I MEAN REALLY TO THINK SOMETHING HAS ENDED LIKE ANY OTHER MOVIE, HURRAY THE HEROIN SAVES THE DAYM, THE SPIRIT HAS BEEN SET FREE, LAID TO REST, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. AND THEN TO HAVE UR WHOLE WORLD JUST RIPPED RIGHT FROM UNDER YOU IS LIKE THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD....CUZ UR EXPECTING THE SAME OLD ENDING AND TO HAVE IT TOTALLY FLIPPED ON YOU IS JUST REFRESHING AND GAVE ME A BIT OF HOPE FOR FUTURE FILMS...
I WAS A BIT SKEPTICAL ABT THE SEQUEL. ALTHOUGH I WAS HOPING FOR MORE CLARITY ON THE CHARACTER OF SAMARA, I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED BUT NOT SURPRISED. THERE ARE FEW FILMS THAT CAN SAY THE SEQUEL LIVED UP TO THE ORIGINAL....HOPE MY REVIEW HELPS SOME OF YOU DECIDE TO IF NOT BUY THIS MOVIE DEFINITELY RENT....
Vengeance .......2007-02-15
Samara will kill you. The child's psychological state of mind may be viewed as insane but her nature clearly reflects what human nature in general is like. When someone has ****you up, you must retailate. To not do so, would mean that you're allowing yourself to be toyed with. Superb horror with depth but the first one had a much deeper meaning as its main goal was to introduce us to "Samara"-Everthing about her childhood experiences and her past. Like the past, present, and future, people and things changed, but nevertheless, your core self is still the same.
I actually liked this first one because it is more deeper and symbolic. The second one is okay but not as good as the first one.

Product Description
Newlyweds Webster and Jackie Frye (James Dunn and Florence Rice) arrive at an old country house for their honeymoon. They are horrified to discover a dead body. When the corpse disappears, a bumbling team of policemen confine them there for the night, along with the next-of-kin who've arrived to claim it. Unbeknownst to any of them, a gang of jewel thieves are hot on the trail of a fortune in diamonds which is also hidden in the house. Writer Morey Amsterdam keeps the pace swift and the dialogue crackling in this screwball comedy with a splash of the macabre. Customer Reviews:
The quality was so bad I could barely see it! Don't get this........2006-04-06
It was hard to view because it was such poor quality. I couldn't see most scenes that were filmed as night time. It was very old and very difficult to watch. I really had to make myself 'hang in there' to finish watching. It's a donate to the library DVD now. Not worth watching and certainly not worth buying.
Little Boring.......2005-09-28
I love old black and white movies and find most pretty enjoyable, but this one just wasn't up to pare.
An hour well spent!.......2004-12-31
This short screwball comedy (about 55 minutes) is a surprisingly entertaining gem, despite the fact that I've never heard of any of the actors in this! The plot moves along very fast and there's plenty of fun characters, from a slightly deranged former hangman to a group of ignorant gangsters. And of course, there's the very idiotic policemen who couldn't find a clue if it bit them in the face! The married couple (James Dunn and Florence Rice) seem to be the only sane people in the group, and they have their hands full trying to have a happy honeymoon in a house filled with loonies! This is no masterpiece at all, but it's a great way to kill an hour and have a good time! The dvd picture and sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, but that's no surprise to someone who's already purchased an Alpha dvd. For this low price however, I can't really complain and I highly recommend this little gem to fans of screwball comedies.
The Ghost and the Guest.......2003-10-07
From the opening moments the jokes are flying in this entertaining movie. Newlyweds Webster and Jackie Frye are spending their honeymoon at an old country home. As soon as they arrive, they are confronted by the retired town's executioner who is intrigued with their chauffeur's neck. Next, they are greeted with the coffin of the previous owner, who happened to be a criminal. Not knowing what to do with their unwelcome guest, they call the police only to discover the coffin is empty. The "deceased's" next of kin show up to claim the body, or are they really there for another reason? This is a fast paced movie, it's only 56 minutes long, but is entertaining. So grab the popcorn, pepsi and dim the lights and enjoy this movie.

What a horrible movie!!!.......2006-05-06
So disappointed with this movie after being such a fan of the first film. It made absolutely no sense with horrible dialogue and disjointed plot. Glad we only rented the film and didn't see it in the movie theather
Leave it on the shelf........2006-02-08
Everyone knows that most sequels are usually not as good as their predecessor and the Ring Two is no exception. Luckily I picked this copy up from the library so I didn't have to pay. I cannot believe the things that Hollywood deem exceptable for the moviegoers nowadays. People I am telling you,"LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF!!!" Rent the first Ring (which was ok) and forget the Ring Two ever existed.
Samara's Wellspring Deepens.......2005-11-07
DreamWorks' U.S. sequel to its Ring franchise, The Ring Two (2005), shares little DNA with author Koji Suzuki's second novel, Spiral ([1995], 2004), or Asmik Ace's Japanese film of the same title (1998), but traces its genes to the studio's second effort, Ringu 2 (1999), helmed by Hideo Nakata, director of Ringu (1998), and Suzuki's spirited companion tale, Floating Water (1996), respectively remade in Japan and the U.S., as Dark Water by Kadokawa (2001) and Touchstone (2005) Pictures.
In The Ring Two, director Hideo Nakata plunges filmgoers back into its predecessor's brooding sea of intranquility, stirred by composer Hans Zimmer's haunting score. The unrated edition (recommended) pans viewers from a star-canopied sky, down an array of electrical transmission lines, to a placid, moonlit park where two seventeen-year-olds, Jake and Emily (Ryan Merriman and Emily VanCamp) parry uneasily on a swing set over their unconsummated high school relationship. Jake "wins" Emily's confidence for the evening--but not in anticipation of a budding romance, rather in a clandestine bid to save his life. Within minutes of their arrival at his family's vacated, upscale home, Jake beleaguers Emily into viewing his underground copy of Samara Morgan's lurid videotape. As Jake frantically ticks-off the remaining minutes of his "seven-days" on the kitchen's microwave clock, now approaching 11 PM, Emily kneels before the altar of the family room's media center and cues the videotape. Hearing the anticipated white noise in the adjacent room, Jake breathes a sigh of relief, and accepts the muted kudos of a disingenuous co-conspirator on the telephone. Dark water oozes across the kitchen floor, stealthily engulfing him in the customary Munch "Scream." Only then does Jake realize--too late--HE was the intended victim! Visibly shaken, he rushes into the family room and discovers that Emily screened the maledict tape with "eyes wide shut!" Bemused, he turns to face his dripping, electronic portal to oblivion. The frocked reaper (Kelly Stables) emerges from her crescent-capped alchemical well and, in a brilliant behind-the-back close-up, pierces into "reality" from her pallid, deciduous netherworld. With shoulders convulsing and arms outstretched, the evil doppelganger fulfills Jake's soggy date with doom! Jake's jaw drops and Emily screams--but not before she recoils safely on the sofa, again covering her eyes.
Six months after disseminating her son's copy of Samara Morgan's infamous videotape, a life saving act for Aidan, as well as burying his father and her former lover, Noah Clay, her niece, Katie Embry, and Samara Morgan's remains, Rachel and Aidan Keller (Naomi Watts and David Dorfman) have relocated to sunkist Astoria, Oregon, a charming, seaside community, a short drive away from rainy Seattle, to start a quiet, new life. Rachel, the new Associate Editor of the Daily Astorian, a respectable tabloid inherited by native son, Max Rourke (Simon Baker), her malcontent boss and contemporary--a Columbia graduate lamenting his lost independence in New York City--seizes her chance to shelter Aidan with all the comforts of a stand-alone home and backyard, for the first time, despite empathizing with Max.
No sooner after they've settled into their new haunts, newsroom rumblings about the inexplicable death of an adolescent male set into motion the events of the film, which quickly spiral out of control for Rachel and Aidan as the boundaries between reality, hallucinations, and nightmares blur. Jake's death, like Katie's in The Ring, beforehand, serves as the conduit for Samara's fated reunion with Rachel and Aidan. A watery encounter with the possessive sprite (Daviegh Chase in archive footage) in Max's bathroom compounds Rachel's mounting problems, leading local authorities to summarily label her an abusive mother, justified on trumped-up charges of post-partum depression. The accusations turn Rachel into a fugitive of justice and the health care system, and Aidan, seemingly, into a killer. Compelled to renew her investigation into Samara's troubled past, Rachel hazards a return visit to the Morgan family ranch on Seattle's fictional Moesko Island. True to her name, she discovers an enigmatic journal in the cellar, hinting of occult tub-and-basin rituals of life-and-death that shaped Samara's turbulent history and tragic separation from her natural mother, Evelyn, at the Mary Magdalene Catholic Orphanage, over thirty years ago, where she later interviews its enduring staff. She follows-up with a provocative encounter with Evelyn, now residing in a nearby Sanatorium, who offers spirited, if not maddening, advice to empower Rachel to set aside her fears, reverse the chase with her son's--and Samara's--festering nemesis, and take an otherworldly offensive that necessitates a quantum leap in faith, fueling lingering doubts over everyone's fate.
The Ring Two, though not quite up to the gold standard of its forebear, surprisingly stands-up well as an entertaining film, peppered with fine performances. In a regrettable departure from the original, Suzuki's insightful and self-reliant--albeit vulnerable--teens have been transformed into a disingenuous cabal of pranksters' intent on cheating each other to death in a sodden game of seven day "VCR Survivor." You will need to view the 16-minute featurette, Rings, part of the DVD's extras, for a surprisingly well-crafted explanation of the shadowy circle's origins and Samara's senseless exploitation. David Dorfman plays the possessed youngster, Aidan Keller, deftly, balancing himself on the razor's edge between believability and precipitous melodrama. Simon Baker shines as Max Rourke, a reluctant newspaperman torn between the facts of Rachel's story and his genuine concern for her and Aidan. Naomi Watts, without doubt, proves to be one of Hollywood's longest overlooked dark horses, a beautiful and equally talented actress who taps into her deep reservoir of personal experience to bring magic to an ever-improving array of roles and characterizations, and is long overdue her well-deserved recognition and just rewards.
Much closer to "Ringu" then "The Ring" ever was.......2005-10-07
Within the past year I have become full on obsessed with the Horror Genre starting with "The Sixth Sense". Now it would have been smart to work up to something like "The Ring" but I didn't. I watched it right after "The Sixth Sense" thinking it couldn't be much scarier then THAT, right? WRONG. It scared me out of my MIND (I couldn't sleep alone or with the light off until a good while after my Day 7 had past). So right after that I got "Ringu" and watched it. At first I was let down because "Ringu" is nowhere NEAR as scary as "The Ring" and is also very different in feel. But slowly it grew on me and I've come to love it dearly for putting "creep" ahead of "scare."
Then "Ring 2" came out in Theatres. Before I went to see it I had done extensive digging online about it so I knew that Hideo Nakata would be directing it and that Daveigh Chase (Samara from "The Ring") was no longer in the cast (this made me very upset). Even if I hadn't known that Nakata-san directed this movie going in I would have figured it out just from the Opening of the film; The Ocean. They Opened in a VERY obvious and wonderful "Ringu" tie-in which made me so happy! However the rest of the movie (in its THEATRE RELEASE) disappointed me greatly. It felt chopy, not thought out, and rushed things which is something that's NOWHERE to be found in "The Ring", it was incredibly well thought out and dense in plot. But what bothered me the most in "Ring 2" was the image overlays of Daveigh that they used in the film. It was cheap, tacky, and friggin distracting (since I could tell you the exact scene, moment, and frame that the images were taken from in "The Ring", what can I say? I'm obsessed). Not only do I think Kelly Stables did just fine as Samara but she doesn't really look like Daveigh so when the overlays are used it's PAINFULLY noticable. Just how dumb did they think their audience was? They could of just kept her hair in her face the whole time and no one would have been the wiser but noooooooooooooooooooo.
So after all this bashing, why the 4 Star Rating? Because this ISN'T the Theatre Release of the movie.
I was in the store with my mom and a whole shelf of "Ring 2" DVDs caught my eye. I didn't know if I'd buy one since the movie wasn't so great but then I saw the little sticker that read "Unrated Extended Edition" on all their front covers. Needless to say I grabed the nearest DVD and refussed to let it go 'til mom bought it for me. I took it home, watched it, and was blown away. The 20 or so minutes of added footage make all the difference in this film. No more chopyness, no more bad pacing which of course takes care of the rushed problem as well. This version of the film is also much more like "Ringu" in feel then "The Ring" was. It's all about SLOWLY building up to the last few moments of the movie.
Also I would like to point out that although the Deer are horridly CGIed, 'tis true, but they aren't random. Watch "The Ring" and "Ring 2" VERY CLOSELY and you'll see the connection. You just have to use your BRAIN to figure it out.
So bad CGI and overlays aside this version of "Ring 2" is VERY good, very creepy, and WELL worth the money.
piece of crap!!!.......2005-10-07
Wow this is horrible! The acting was so bad and it wasn't even scary! Why the freakin' hell did they have to use CGI for the scene with the deer? It looked so godawful and FAKE! The movie altogether was just boring and cliched and the filmakers who made it should be shot! I hate these modern day horror films such as a lousy remake of Dawn of the Dead that barely even had ANY shocking scenes to get Rated R! When it comes to making horror movies Hollywood sucks the big one!! Hollywood stop making these! They suck! Leave good horror to people like Stephen King Clive Barker and George A. Romero! Heck even Rob Zombie makes better horror than this piece of monkey crap! I recommend The Devils Rejects instead of this! It's so much better! Skip this crap! Leave it to Hollywood to screw up the horror category!

Customer Reviews:
Not a bad one........2007-06-11
Well besides it was alittle slow pace I think it was pretty good. Also I think it was pretty cool that they were going for something different in this one. All in all not a bad zombie flick. Just don't exspect tons of gore and good acting but other then that it's just plan fun.
HORROR OR HORRABLE?.......2007-04-05
I FIRST SAW AN EDITED(WHY?)PRINT OF THIS FILM ON TV ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO & FOUND IT INTERESTING & DIFFERENT. I COULD TELL IT WAS MADE ON A VERY LOW BUDGET,(TOY MODEL FOR SHIP BURNING)& ACTING WAS POOR AT TIMES TOO, BUT THE ZOMBIES WERE VERY CREEPY & SCARY. MARIA'S SCENE OF BEING DRAGED DOWN INTO THE HATCH SCREAMING & THEN EATEN MAKES THIS FILM WORTH WATCHING? THESE TEMPLARS ARE AMONG THE BEST EVER PUT ON FILM, BUT OFCOURSE, THE GIRLS WERE PUT ON THE "Ghost Galleon" TO BE 'FOOD' FOR THE ZOMBIES. BEING BLIND & SLOW AS THEY WERE DIDN'T PREVENT THEM FROM CATCHING & DEVOURING MOST OF THE FEMALE CAST MEMBERS, WHO WERE ALWAYS 'FALLING DOWN & CAN'T GET UP'. IT'S NOT OFTEN THAT YOU SEE A HORROR FILM THAT'S ALSO FUNNY & SCARY. SO, SOME SAY THIS FILM ISN'T HORROR BUT IS JUST HORRIBLE? I FOUND IT MOSTLY SCARY BUT ALSO STUPID & FUNNY AT TIMES! DOUBT IT WILL EVER BE CLASSIFIED AS A COMEDY??? HAVN'T SEEN THE DVD VERSION YET, SO THIS IS FOR THE VHS VIDEO ONLY.
Sleezy but not cheezy.................2006-09-29

Three Strikes, Yer Out Sucker!.......2004-12-03
Buque maldito, El (1975) is the third blind dead feature. I suppose that people were wasting their hard earned cash in the 1970's visiting theaters to watch junk like this and that is why we got so many sequels to the squalor they call, "Blind Dead" films. This is purely a waste of time and good money. If you see this at a five and dime store, don't pick it up! It's awful and has no suspense what-so-ever. The boat is a silly model that is floating in a man's bathtub, if you can see a toe, that is a man. I can't believe people actually have the guts to call this filth "brilliant"...truly a ludicrous and bold statement indeed!
