Unlike Disney's other sequels to their classic films, this follow-up to the 1953 version of Peter Pan debuted in theaters. World War II has turned Wendy's preteen daughter, Jane, into a realist, a girl who insists there's no need for stories and fun while London is crumbling. Hook kidnaps Jane (thinking she's Wendy) and returns to "the second star to the right" to foil Pan. Alas, the film doesn't build on this new story line (the London scenes have the most emotional impact), and what follows is a thin reworking of the original. On the plus side, a clever octopus takes over from that old crocodile, and Jane turns out to be a solid--and modern--role model. Those from ages 4 to 9 who have been brought up on the original should enjoy these adventures, even if the story, like Peter himself, "hasn't grown up." The 72-minute film is shown with the delightful 1948 short "Pluto's Fledgling." --Doug Thomas

1 out of 5 stars Junk.......2007-05-26

At a younger age, I thought this was junk. Now that I'm older, I find that I was being foolish. This is beyond junk, its on the verge of being untouchable waste. As far as Disney sequels go, this one ranks with Cinderella 2 and Air Buddies. I wouldn't even recommend showing this to a baby that has no ability to understand bad movies from good movies, because this will teach them to enjoy nothing of value.

3 out of 5 stars a short review........2007-03-25

First, this movie is overrated and doesn't come close to the Disney original. Disney once stood for quality and entertainment. Now they will exploit any of their classics with a plethora of bad sequels.

I'm not just a hater of new Disney, I own and have seen this movie. Some of it is actually not too bad. Captain hook is funny and the animation is top notch. However, Peter Pan doesn't seem like the same Peter. He seems more immature and annoying. Also, why did they need to have the same dog and call it Nanna 2? This just goes to show how little thought was put into the movie. Out of all the names for the dog, they choose Nana 2.... my god!

5 out of 5 stars Captain Hook Junkie.......2007-01-06

If your kids love Captian Hook or pirates this is the DVD for them. My son loves pirates so he always likes to watch this one.

3 out of 5 stars Return to Neverland? More Like Return to Disney Sequels... .......2006-02-09

You may have read my review for the Disney film "Peter Pan". I said it was a good movie, right? Well, this one did not live up to it's 1953 prequel. It was boring and dramatic and just another cheap Disney sequel.
It starts out completely wrong. Jane, Wendy's daughter, did not exist during World War II but in the late nineteenth century. She was never against Peter Pan and she did not have a brother. She was just a little girl who dreamed of going to Neverland when her mother stopped believing. Also, Captain Hook SHOULD BE DEAD but he comes to England in his flying ship (?) to kidnap who he believes is Wendy.
Once Jane arrives at Neverland she meets Peter Pan. I was really shocked here. What happened to Peter's voice? It is TERRIBLE in the fact that it sounds far too adolescent.
After this meeting, several adventures ensue, including Jane's attempt to escape the island that she still does not believe in. She can't learn to fly and in a rage she blurts out she doesn't believe in fairies, so Tink becomes weak. Jane repents and saves her and becomes friends with all the Lost Boys, eventually fulfilling her dream to become the first Lost Girl. But she has forgotten she made a deal with Captain Hook to help kidnap Peter. Now it is up to Jane to save him, and she does, therefore removing Peter from his post as hero and becoming heroine.
There were a few strange parts about this movie. The Indians are never shown, even though there is a brief pass through the Indian Territory. There is scarcely a visit to Mermaid's Lagoon. And once again, Tootles has no voice. The best part in this movie is the end credits with BBMak's version of "Do You Believe in Magic?". This movie earned three stars, and only because it is tied-in with Peter Pan.

P.S. Check out the other Peter Pan-related reviews by Tinkerbell III!

4 out of 5 stars Um.......I Don't know.......2005-11-27

I like this movie and I don't like this movie. Like my dad I LOVE PETER PAN. I've read the book a million times over, and I was really excited when I saw the previews for this movie. My family saw it in the theaters and I really liked it at first. But after seeing a few times more then it got a little cheesy. The music doesn't really fit the movie and Peter acted more like a kid than ever( even though he's not suppose to grow up they could have made him have more brains than that). This movie is good but it has some parts that are embarressly kiddish. Out of the three squels I think disney did a good job on this one would be second place.

      Description

This one-hour television special done in 1964 from the Rankin/Bass library was the first of many network televsions special produced by Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass.

Based on the original "Wizard of Oz" story and from an earlier Rankin/Bass series "The Tales of the Wizard of Oz" from 1961, this special features Dorothy more as a little girl character. With Socrates the Strawman, Rusty the Tinman and Dandy the Lion, Dorothy and Toto travel back to Oz for an all new adventure rarely seen on television and appearing for the first time ever on DVD !

5 out of 5 stars Return to Oz.......2007-03-22

I actually enjoyed the 1964 atmosphere of this sequel even more than the live action Disney movie made 21 years later. Videocraft (later known as Rankin Bass) have employed some excellent songs, and brought back several characters from "The Wizard of Oz" in a new adventure.
Don't let the primitive animation put you off. It's truly part of the charm.
This feature runs around 50 min and follows from Videocraft's "Tales of the Wizard of Oz" series. PLEASE FANS. GET A FORUM GOING TO REQUEST THAT "TALES OF THE WIZARD OF OZ" IS RELEASED ON DVD.
And while we're at it, can we please have the 1987 CINAR Films Wizard of Oz series released in full, rather than the 4 feature cartoons which are just heavily cut versions of the series?
Anyway, grab this DVD from "used and new" while you can,
      Peter

      5 out of 5 stars RANKIN/BASS Eye candy!.......2006-05-17

This was the first RANKIN/BASS TV Special, which originally aired on the NBC-TV GENERAL ELECTRIC FANTASY HOUR in February, 1964. It was the first also for writer ROMEO MULLER and I have his original type written script for this one! GENERAL ELECTRIC had a nice tie-in CHARM BRACELET from the special! If you bought an iron, you got the extra! The animation is derivitive of the GREAT UPA style that came out of the late 1950's and early 1960's and was designed by TONY PETERS out of the RANKIN/BASS New York offices. This is also the first time RANKIN/BASS Composer MAURY LAWS got involved with a RANKIN/BASS Project and became Musical Supervisor by doing the orchestrations. MAURY will be taking the RANKIN/BASS Music out on the road during CHRISTMAS 2007 and hitting all of the major symphonies! I will be CREATIVE DIRECTOR on this traveling RANKIN/BASS magical musical! Look for us at a venue near you!

4 out of 5 stars Nice Rankin Bass animation gem from the 60's........2006-04-17

The songs, the excellent voice over characterizations, the clever animation, and fun characters, are what always made Rankin Bass specials a winner. This one is no exception. While the animation does appear dated, it does not distract from this story derived from the characters of the Rankin Bass TV show Tales of the Wizard of Oz, which consisted of over 100 5 minute animated shorts from 1961. It features the same characters from the show, but Dorothy and Toto look different. There's the Wicked Witch, Glinda, Dandy the Lion, Rusty the Tin Man, Socrates the straw man (scarecrow), the Wizard, and of course, Toto. The DVD has no special features, and it does not appear the animation was digitally cleaned up at all (some artifacting present).

This is continuing in a current release line of vintage Rankin Bass releases, which started late last year with the two volumes of the animated 60's King Kong Show, and is continuing with two shows from the early 70's Festival of Family Classics: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Around the World in 80 Days, found on one DVD titled Festival of Family Classics Adventures Volume 1. Numbering that one volume 1, presumably means we are in for more. Keep 'em coming!

4 out of 5 stars Old Friends Return..........2006-03-27

This one hour, made for TV special is Dorothy's animated return to the land of OZ. Although now 40 years old, the film will delight young fans of OZ and bring back memories to those who remember this newly refound, classic animated story. Dorothy returns to Oz (via an fruit tree this time) and once again must battle the Witch of the West, once a puddle now a witch again, for the ownership of the Silver Slippers (no rubies here folks). The animation is typical of it's time; stylized and sparse with muted tones. Still, it's well done and features some great voice work on the part of the cast. Like it's more famous inspiration, the film features some well crafted music for Dorothy and company to sing. A definate treat for young audiences that deserves to be refound by adult fans of the legend of the Land of Oz.

1 out of 5 stars Why was this film made?.......2004-01-05

I can only assume the producers had some spare film left over, thought they might as well use it up, squeeze a few extra coins out of the franchise. This is quite the worst excuse for a dinosaur film I can remember seeing. The early scenes, involving a lump of rubber which is supposed to be an armoured dinosaur, should be enough to put anyone off. If it isn't, then prepare to be bored. Though the plot starts off interestingly enough, combining Conan Doyle's characters with eco-awareness, it soon descends into a tedious copy of its predecessor, with a far-too-large cast stranded in the lost world. Virtually nothing happens for most of the film. The dinosaurs are barely seen, but as the special effects are so lamentably bad, maybe that's for the best. Once again, a well-cast Challenger and Summerlee are completely wasted.

1 out of 5 stars Great Special Effects and Masterful Performances........2002-08-18

Indeed, you probably have not heard of this movie before, but I must say it was definitely the most thrilling and entertaining I've seen my whole life. The acting by that guy in the blue is great and the dinosaurs are so real looking you will jump out of your chair ... in fright.

Despite it being made a few years before Jurrassic Park, I still think the quality is far superior. The plot is about two rival scientists set out for the Lost World and find it threatened with destruction by sinister oil prospectors. If you liked, or didn't liked, or even hated the Lost World or any movies about dinosaurs, you will no matter love this one! You will change your perspective on the cinematography of past movies, and will think that "Lord of The Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" was a graphically mediocre and suspenseless movie.

      1 out of 5 stars It's a great as Jurassic Park!... minus 1 million.......2002-07-12

If anyone rates this movie 5 stars they must have a mental problem. These dinosaurs looked like they were just triangles and squares put together. Where have these people been latley everyone knows a T Rex doesn't look like a Lizard! Infact probably the only reason dinosaurs are in here is so that an oil company can kill them. Come on. The story line also has a serious problem. A group of explorers come to what is known as "The lost world" even though half the planet knows about it. Then the oil company disturbs a volcano and then some people die and a village gets saveed by the lava. BIG WHOOP! If just one building got burned that would be enough to get this up to 2 stars. So if you rent this video do the video store a favour and put it ina garbage despencer and through it in a fire pit. Infact they should have a "Take at your own risk" sign just for this movie.

the 1 star reviewers were expecting too much.this was a good, not great, but i still gave it 5 stars.i am a dino, alien, and monster movie fan and i think this is a good movie.the dinosaus dont come out that much, but by the lake a good dino part.the story is people go to an island with dinosaurs, find them and freak out!sorry im not good at summarys(i dont know if i spelled that right.)i will write a review for the first ''lost world.''

1 out of 5 stars It's a great movie, if you like 1920's special effects!.......1999-11-18

This movie was such a dissipointment, there is no difference between it and the origional, if you ask me the 1925 Lost World would be five stars compared to this! The T-rex looks like it was an iguana hoisted onto it's hind legs! This movie was a big dissipointment.

      2 out of 5 stars Must...resist...sucking joke..........2005-04-26

Hi folks. Take a look at the front cover of the box. See that? Evil mosquito face, teeth gnashing, drool dripping with every anticipation for it's next victim. Looks really cool, right? Makes ya wanna go out and see the movie, right? But here's what you should do: go to the rental store. Pick up the videotape box. Look the front over. Put it back down. Walk out. You've had a better experience than I did watching the film.

The mosquitos in here are really mosquito biology models increased to the size of your hand. They kill people by attaching themselves to low paid actors, thanks to the help of wire and the hands of studio gaffers. The mosquitos are created by radiation (oh wow, there's a twist) dumped by a corporate villain. (oh wow, yet another twist) The corporation subplot is odd as it's never fully resolved - making the whole thing weird. The corporate villain cavorts around talking like Tony Jay and looking like the "Phantasm" Tall Man's little brother. He also sends his minions after our heroes, resulting in a few gunfights. It's almost like the movie forgot it was a horror film and tried to be a John Woo film instead.

This movie stars Charles Napier as a police officer (again) and William Sanderson, who was famous as J.H. Sebastian in "Blade Runner" and Joe Monday the bartender in "Last Man Standing." Oh yes and a whole load of mosquitos. Contains gun-fu, kung-fu, Indian-fu, and moquito-fu. Two stars. TrezKu13 says don't check it out.

3 out of 5 stars If you see just one giant mosquito movie then skip "Skeeter".......2003-06-28

If you see just one giant mosquito B-movie this summer then go see "Mosquito." That 1995 film is above average low-budget camp, as oxymoronic as that sounds. But the "1994" film "Skeeter" is just plain bad, without the redeeming quality of unintentional humor (the script is actually better in this film, but with the bad special effects it works against your enjoyment). This time around, instead of the skeeters feasting on alien blood they end up being mutated because of a toxic waste dump. Meanwhile, at our isolated desert town cattle showing up drained of all their blood through giant puncture wounds. Then a pair of sex starved teenagers disappeared, followed by the people looking for the aforementioned teenagers. The first people in town to spot the monsters are drunks, so they do not count and the locals have no clue until they are buzzed by mosquitoes the size of birds ("big" is a relative term in monster movies, and since we are talking swarms of mosquitoes, this size works better).

The hero is Roy Boone (Jim Youngs), a strapping lad who likes to work with his shirt off, and the damsel in distress is his once and future girl friend Sarah Crosby (Tracy Griffith). The local rich jerk Drake (Jay Robinson), is involved in land grabbing and his land has the toxic spill that leads to the mutated mosquitoes. Charles Napier plays the corrupt local sheriff, and William Sanderson is the perplexed county examiner, and Michael J. Pollard's character keeps one of the skeeters as a pet. All of your favorite conventions are here, the point of view shot from the perspective of the giant insects, the brutal deaths of the bad guys, and screams from the healthy lungs of the heroine. It is just that "Skeeter" is not bad enough to be enough fun. Do "Skeeter" as a late night double-bill with "Mosquito" and you will have to argee this is the lesser of two giant mosquitoes B-movies.
