Very Weird!.......2007-07-03
I honestly don't know how to begin to write this review. I, like many had been doing more traditional yoga practices, but ran into this style here on Amazon while doing a search for something else. I did purchase the one that had the highest reviews because my curiosity was peaked. Well, I got through the video, and some parts of it was challenging. It was very different, but the time did just fly by. I really liked that a lot! The next morning my upper arms were as sore as heck, so I guess I was not being challenged that much doing my other practices. I think it was the 40 up and down dogs in a row without stopping that did it for me. All in all I ordered 2 more Kundalini videos. Don't ask me why. I guess I am very swayed by all the great reviews, and want a lot of variety in my yoga practices. I also like the constant flow and movement, with the meditations peppered in there. It gave me time to regroup and be ready for the next thing.
so glad i got this!.......2007-06-25
As a runner, i was looking for some other activity to do to "cross-train" and decided to try this based on the many reviews.. i'm so glad i did. I am not at all flexible and this dvd makes it easy for someone with no flexibility to follow along and do the moves.. you definitely feel it in your muscles! I also like how it is seperated by 2 parts, so you can do either one if you are pressed for time. I also own Dance the Chakras and Fat Free Yoga which are good but i think i like this one the best!
I was skeptical.......2007-06-22
I'd tried other yoga DVDs, but never got the "rush" or "glow" that everyone talked about. I never understood what was so great about Yoga. Then I bought Ana and Ravi's Beginners & Beyond. I must say that I was blown away. As a fitness novice, I was easily able to do the first set. I could feel it in my abs the next day, though. I'm slowly building strength and doing more and more of the second set. I always feel rejuvenated after doing this DVD. It is well worth the money. In fact, I just ordered my second of Ana and Ravi's. I can't wait until their 2 news ones come out next month.

You must try this!.......2007-06-19
I used to avoid working out but Ana & Ravi make it so much fun it is positively addictive!! I started with their Fat Free Yoga and Dance the Chakras and right away got four more. Not only does this type of yoga give me tremendous energy but it makes me feel connected to my core much like pilates but with more movment and flow so that I really have discovered the "joy of moving!" My husband who had been away when I first began this practice, came home and did a double take - he said - wow you are positively glowing, what have you been doing!? He couldn't say enough about how youthful, relaxed, and glowy I looked. He also asked if I had lost weight. He was so happy for me. So I introduced him to Ana & Ravi's DVD's and now he is doing them as well.
As other reviewers said the first set of this DVD is wonderful for gently warming up the spine and energizing.
The second set is hatha type poses you may have seen before but Kundalini style which means they move.
It is really the most fun I have ever had working out which makes discipline easy. The great soundtrack is another plus.
Be warned - you will want to collect them all and there are about 15!
Easy, but not Gentle !.......2007-06-18
Of course when you see so many glowing reviews on a product you already know you wish to get. It validates your desire to purchase. So with anticipation yet a slight reluctancy I ordered this dvd. I will say some things I read were true. It wasn't a difficult workout , and internally you do feel a rise in energy. Perfect right! Sorry NO. As a long term practioner of Tai Chi and someone who has a bad back. (The reason I researched this DVD). I was lead to believe this would help releive back pain. For me and I'm sure not all other people, this is an important point. The fast twisting and turning lifts etc., although easy and stimulating, aggravated my lower back and kidney area so bad. I haven't been able to exercise in over 10 days . I haven't had severe back pain in over 3 years and within 1 week of doing these exercises I've been laid up. Although I have a history of back pain I'm able to do 4 classes(Tai Chi, Chi Ging ) a week with at least 1 hour each session, with at worst, very slight pain. So personally, I would give this dvd a very low rating but I still liked the production, the workout and the internal energy but the fact that is not gentle as described. I give it a generous 3.

Product Description
Bellydance Basics & Beyond is a 2 hr. 20 min. program designed to teach the fundamental movements of bellydance and encourage their practice in a wide range of dance combinations.
Jenna's methodical presentation of bellydance basics begins with POSTURE, the foundation on which dance movement is built. The BASIC ARMS section teaches you how to maintain and enhance a beautiful elongated body line through graceful positioning of the arms and hands.
WARMUP includes select dance moves and dynamic stretches and is designed as a light total-body workout.
The FOOTWORK section lays the foundation for traveling steps, focusing on a number of patterns, such as basic walk, 2-step and triple step traveling and ways to change directions.
ISOLATIONS of shoulders, ribcage and hips are building blocks of bellydance movement. Jenna breaks down slides, lifts, drops, arcs and sharp accents. Some of these elements are dance moves in their own right, and others help to form compound moves.
COMPOUND MOVES are the essential vocabulary of bellydance - circles, undulations and figure 8s. Jenna's technique of building them from the smallest and most basic elements up, ensures that they are performed with effortless grace. Next, Jenna shows how to layer simple and compound moves on top of TRAVELING steps.
PRACTICE COMBINATIONS offer five 5-minute practice sessions made from many exciting bellydance combinations. As you follow Jenna, you can listen to the music together with her verbal cues or you can select the music-only option. This section offers a series of excellent technique drills and can be combined with the WARMUP for a fantastic 30-minute moderate workout. The last session contains stretches and can serve as a cooldown.
Customer Reviews:
Great content, a must for beginners BUT needs more fun/music!.......2007-06-18
The reason I bought this DVD was because many other reviewers said it was a very good basic to intermediate instructional video for belly dancing.
As per other reviewers, this DVD delivers. Jenna is very thorough when going over the different types of bellydance movements, and really takes the time to correct easy-to-make mistakes, something absent in many other dance/instructional videos. She also takes the time to go over correct posture which seems to be one of the most essential elements in making bellydancing look beautiful.
I was a student of ballet for 8+ years and this DVD views like a legitimate dance class all by itself. That is what I like most about the DVD.
The only reason why this loses a star is because I GET TOO BORED BEFORE THE VIDEO IS OVER!
There's so much instruction to get through that i have never made it straight through the DVD. I wish there was at least some music or SOMETHING while Jenna is going over the basic moves, but there's nothing.
This product definitely has a lot of value, but I absolutely need another video that's just a little more fun.
good for learning.......2007-06-13
This dvd has alot of information. It's easy to follow and very good instructional practice. I highly recommend it. It's also very lengthy and well worth the money.
Wonderful DVD.......2007-06-12
I just started studying belly dancing a few months ago. This instructional DVD makes clear the basic techniques I am learning in class. I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone interested in learning belly dancing.
GREAT Starter DVD!.......2007-06-11
I have tried several other Belly dance dvd's and this one is the best! I took ballet for many, many years so I know how dance classes should be. I really appreciated that Jenna does the teaching in front of a full length mirror, that way , you are able to see how each new technique should look front AND back! She also gives a complete description of each step and which muscles to use which is invaluable for learning the correct techniques. I had originally purchased all the Goddess Life DVDs to begin learning and they were OK, but if I were to do it over, I would start with Jenna's DVD and learn the correct foundations then do the Goddess Life or which ever others.
Buy it!.......2007-06-09
Good replacement for those who can't make a class. The mirrors show every angle and she is careful to explain every step. Wonderful and necessary addition to anyone wanting to learn bellydance.

Amazon.com
The science fiction series Space Above and Beyond, which enjoyed a brief run in the 1995-96 season, was created by X-Files producers Glen Morgan and James Wong as a revision of the classic war series Combat!. Set in the not-too-distant future, Space Above and Beyond follows the adventures of five inexperienced Marines of the 58th Squadron, who are involved in a war against the Chigs, a race of aliens bent on conquering the Earth. Morgan and Wong gave their main characters intriguing personalities--Nathan West (Morgan Weisser) has joined the Marines to save a girlfriend captured by the aliens, while Rodney Rowland's Cooper is an artificially created human whose service is inspired by a desire to escape the violent prejudice he faces on Earth. The action and stories are gritty and dramatic, and put a fresh spin on traditional wartime stories--highlights include "The Enemy," in which the 58th is stranded behind enemy lines; "Toy Soldiers," in which West's younger brother is serving under a dangerously reckless lieutenant; and the two-part "If They Lay Us Down to Rest
" and "Tell Our Moms We Done Our Best," which brought the series to a close with the Earth on the verge of peace talks with the aliens as the military launches a perilous operation. Commentary by Morgan and Wong and the cast would have been welcome, especially if the plans for the unseen second season could've been revealed, but unfortunately, no supplemental features are included in this slickly produced, no-frills set. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Lousy Army Memoirs.......2007-07-02
On the surface, this series was very appealing to me--I am a former U. S. Marine and a huge sci-fi fan. Unfortunately, the writers of this show don't know ANYTHING about the Marine Corps; rank structure, training processes, anything. There isn't even a single incident of nautical jargon until halfway through the series--which is especially disappointing, since R. Lee Ermy has a major role in the first episode.
Rather, all military references seem to be taken from the Army, or from a soldier's (poor) understanding of Naval procedure. For example, one of the Marine pilots is promoted to captain, and is elated that she will finally be able to use the "Captains'" restroom aboard the naval space carrier upon which she serves. Unfortuantely, a Naval Captain is three ranks higher than a Marine Corps Captain; the equivalent of a Marine Colonel.
The sci-fi element is equally disappointing; the advanced alien race which we are fighting apparently uses the same tactics as North Korean and Viet Cong troops in 20th century Terrestrial warfare; the only difference being that their weapons have a bigger "boom."
I was very disappointed in this series and don't recommend it at all.
Fox ate a star for this one.......2007-07-01
Once again, Fox has released a bare bones box set. Shame on you!
As for the program itself, I very much enjoyed it when it first aired. It was gritty and thoughtful in ways that I'd never experienced in a science fiction series. It had a great cast and characters that were honest and believable. It's a shame that the network had to pull the plug on such a promising program. That just seems to be par for the course from Fox.
Re-watching this show years after the first time that it ran once again makes me wish there was more to the story.
SPACE ABOVE AND BEYOND.......2007-06-27
THIS IS ONE OF THOSE UNSUNG HEROS,ONLY 22 EPISODES BUT VERY ENGROSSING
.THE YEAR IS 2058THEY THOUGHT THEY WAS ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE,THEY WHERE WRONG.AFTER THE LAST COLONY WAS ATTACTED THE ARMY IS ON RED ALERT.NO IMFO NODATA ABOUT THE ENEMY,THE RAG TAG 58 SQUADRON KOWN AS THE WILD CARDS.THERE PRIMARY MISSION IS PROTECT THE HUMAN RACE FROM EXINCTION,BUT EACH OF THE TEAM AS A PERSONAL REASON. WEST WAS ONE OF THE WOULD BE COLONIST,BUT THE ADMIATRATION STOP HIM FROM GOING AT THE LAST MINUTE.NOW SEPARATED FROM HIS GIRLFRIEND HE HAS TO FIND AWAY SO HE ENLISTED THE ARMY. ICOULD GO ON BUT YOU NEED TO SEE IT.SCIFI EFFECTS ARE NOT GREAT BUT THE GREAT ACTING OF THE CAST OF WITCH YOU WOULD`NT SEE THESE ACTORS AGAIN.
Decent Series.......2007-06-16
I remembered seeing this series when it originally was shown on television and then on cable for a year. It's not as good as I remember but it is decent. Some of the acting is a bit overly dramatic, at least in the pilot, but it's a good series to buy and watch if one likes sci-fi.
Wonderful Series, Lacking in Special Features.......2007-06-08
It is wonderful to have the chance to own all of the episodes of this really great series. I had always hoped it might be picked up by someone like the Sci-Fi channel and continued. But being able to sit and watch these episodes again is the next best thing. It was a unique and very character-driven approach to science fiction on television. The only disappointment I found with the boxed set was the unfortunate lack of special features. I tend to really love getting to see series on DVD, seeing the deleted scenes, hearing the commentary and discussions of the actors, writers and directors about their vision for the series and a given episode. But because this series came out back before the real advent of mass market DVD, those sorts of materials were not kept, or were not made at all. The only special features are the original FOX television advertisements for the series. Still, it's great and I love it.

Description
Under the white guy "everyman" exterior lurks one of the cleverest original comedians of today. An established star in standup comedy and a frequent guest on the late shows of David Letterman and Conan O'Brien, Jim Gaffigan is a noted actor as well, from comedic turns in Super Troopers, That 70s Show and Sex and the City to dramatic roles in dozens of films and TV dramas. But here his unique comedy persona takes over -- cantankerous but endearing, clean but cutting, with an irrepressible "inside voice" that keeps wickedly popping out - to the delight of the audience in Chicago's historic Vic Theater. And now you can share their guffaws.

FUNNY AND CLEAN FOR THE MOST PART!.......2007-06-24
I have seen Jim Gaffigan around for a few years now and it is good to see him getting some recognition. This is a very funny and clean stand up that you can watch with the whole family. It's not "Mother Goose" clean, but it shouldn't shock anyone.
Excellent - you will be laughing all the time.......2007-06-01
This guy is soooo funny. You will really enjoy this.
must see!.......2007-05-15
This guy is a crack up. My husband and I quote this man all the time. His view of holiday traditions and hot pockets will have you rolling.
Just OK.......2007-05-14
I bought this DVD because it popped up while searching for Mitch Hedberg items. Jim Gaffigan is not Mitch Hedberg. His "inner voice" schtik wore on me. The humor is clean and my kids and I agreed that the DVD got better toward the end. Get some Mitch Hedberg or Demetri Martin instead.
HYSTERICAL!!.......2007-05-13
My husband and I saw Beyond the Pale on Comedy Central and laughed our butts off!! The minute the show ended- my husband got on Amazon and ordered a copy for us and for his brother. Jim Gaffigan is absolutely fantastic! You will be laughing, crying and snorting like a madman! The DVD is even better than the show on Comedy Central because there is no editing! Lots of extras at the end, too. ENJOY!!

Customer Reviews:
Matured Nicely.......2007-07-02
In the third (and unfortunately final) season of Batman Beyond, the show's creators settle into a rhythm that's really reminiscent of their finer moments in the much heralded Batman: The Animated Series. Having followed the series from its debut episode right up until the final, I can state that the entire third season manages to feel very natural in terms of character interaction and setting mood. While not as unpredictable as the first season, the third was wise to put Maxine Gibson (from season 2) on the backburner. Terry is much more able to explore his own thoughts and feelings as the new Batman with Bruce to back him up when the going gets rough. Note: Max is still present in many episodes, but her role is a bit more subtle.
Unlike Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond doesn't run quite a tight rouge's gallery. There are some reoccurring villains (such as Inque, Blight, The Jokerz, etc.) but nothing like the staples found in the original Batman story-lines. The show's creators claim that while there never an official "canceling" of Batman Beyond, they were all approached with assignments that caused them to drift apart which explains why the final episode could be viewed as fairly anticlimactic. Fortunately, as a result, greats like Justice League and Unlimited would be born. Batman Beyond is a program that still holds up beautifully and brings an interesting take on an already wonderful franchise. My only complaint about the series is that it had to come to an end.

Great.......2007-06-01
Watching these DVDs brought back so many memeories and reminded me why I like the DC universe. This was an excellent show and the DVDs are excellent as well. The animation and the storylines are so much better than the swill they're passing off now as cartoons
Quite what I wanted.......2007-05-16
Having pre-ordered this I had incredible expectations for this that were met incredibly well. This was my favorite show when it was on the WB and it is still alive and well in this box set. The commentaries, like most in the DC comics classics collection, were well done and not even close to underwhelming. For fans of the series, and anyone who cares about the DC Comics classics this is a must buy.
Great series.......2007-05-14
Batman Beyond has it all, great plot, graphics and MUSIC. Too bad they will not expand this series and creators have moved to more child-like series (Teen titans, etc).

minus one for no subtitles, but second disc - action scenes were bad and dialogue was terrble. See 1 skip 2.

Customer Reviews:
More history, please.......2007-06-30
Although I enjoyed the film, I felt that it did not delve deeply enough into the various legends and myths which were obvious grist for the christ sham. I was hoping that this would be a more extensive and exhaustive study of the origins of the myth, the growth of it, and perhaps even an examination of the dysfunctional psychology behind the need for religion or god.
disappointing documentary.......2007-06-27
I was looking forward to an entertaining and instructional documentary and it was to some degree. The documentary was factual regarding religion and the bible, but I felt Brian Flemming made a few segments too personal. Further, many of the jokes went overboard and would make most people cringe. I did like the interviews, especially those with Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins.
Some Good Information Presented with an Agenda.......2007-06-16
I don't know that I've ever had such mixed feelings about a DVD I've watched like I had with this one. Before I ordered it, when I read some of the negative reviews beforehand, I thought that the reviewers were probably just being close-minded. But now I understand where some of them were coming from when writing their reviews about the DVD.
If you've never learned a lot of the information that's contained in this DVD before, then you may learn things that you'll consider to be new and insightful for you. And if you believe that what you've learned in the Bible is God's word and it's infallible, then you'll probably be outraged by what you see and hear in this DVD.
Before watching this DVD I'd read "The Dark Side of Christianity" by Helen Ellerbe, "The Jesus Puzzle" by Earl Doherty, and "In God's Hands" by David Yallop. All of these books I purchased on Amazon and I highly recommend them if the subject matter of what's in this DVD interests you.
While I've rated this DVD 4 stars because I feel the information will be valuable if you're learning about it for the first time, the problem I have with this DVD is the fact that Brian Flemming seemed to be more interested in ridiculing Christianity when making this DVD then he was in making a great, informative DVD on the subject. Showing clips of old movies about Jesus at high speed to make them look really stupid may not have been his best choice here. And sitting down for an interview under false pretenses with the Principal of the Christian school he attended while growing up, and trying his best to embarrass the Principal may not have been the best choice to make when making this movie either. But at least Flemming left in the part where the Principal excuses himself from the interview mentioning that this was not what he was told by Flemming in advance that the interview would focus on. And insisting during this interview to this man who has devoted his life to Christianity that all the students who attend his school should be given a warning about all the bad things that Christianity will bring into their lives, was quite a bit out in left field, too.
In some ways it just seemed that the purpose of making this DVD was for Flemming to get back at Christianity for all he felt it had done to hurt him in his life, which again is different than just making a DVD about Christianity. And at the same time I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Flemming believes about Christianity, too. It's just that he presented it with so much bitterness.
Of even more value to me than the movie was the bonus audio interview on the DVD with Earl Doherty, the author of the book "The Jesus Puzzle." If you haven't read Doherty's book you will probably find this interview to have some very valuable information in it. But strangely the audio of this interview is played along with the video of the movie playing at the same time, even though the audio interview does not coincide with the scenes being shown at the same time from the movie. So I ended up just listening to the audio interview without watching the movie at the same time so that I could better concentrate on and understand what was being said in the interview.
There's some good information in this DVD, but it seems to be delivered with the primary intention of ridiculing and defaming Christianity, rather than serving as information about what we may have never learned about Christianity before that we really need to know about.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!.......2007-06-13
But if you've GOT to see it anyway, see if you can borrow it from a friend or get it at the local library. Or take mine -- I don't want it.
The DVD is advertised as being comparable to "Super Size Me" and "Bowling for Columbine." If I made a documentary, I would probably want to advertise it as being on a par with some of the greatest modern documentaries around as well; but if you want the truth, it is perhaps the worst.
First let me say that I am an atheist and my views concur with those of the author (Brian Flemming). I am a huge fan of Richard Dawkins (whose commentary on the DVD is the only interesting aspect of it) and Sam Harris (whose brief appearances hardly did him justice), two good reasons to watch the film. Unfortunately for the film's content, those two reasons aren't even good enough to redeem the work overall.
The film is sluggishly slow and super boring. The author is quite amateur in terms of film editing (granted this was only his second production according to IMBD), but also playing the role of unskilled camera-operator, he provides himself with raw footage that can't even be edited to look good. At one point, he even held the camera out in front of his own face.
In addition to being the director, editor, and producer, Flemming is also the film's main and only interviewer. He actually has some good connections (I'm very impressed he was able to get Sam Harris to do an interview with him). Unfortunately for him (and even more unfortunately for anyone watching it), Flemming is a timid interviewer who, while in a position to ask thought-provoking questions from leading scholars, fails to achieve this goal. During one scene, he visits the superintendent of the religious school that raised him as a child. During the interview, instead of eliciting interesting perspectives to further his thesis, he personally attacks his subject on camera (after having tricked the guy into doing the interview in the first place) in an apparent attempt to express the grudge he's held since childhood. Further, he asks five random Christians questions about the history of Christianity and uses their lack of answers to his specific questions as evidence that most Christians profess a believe about something they do not know enough about, according to Flemming's standards. I infer that the author contends that if those people were made aware of the answers to his questions, then they would question their beliefs. I disagree with that contention and the evidence he uses to support it.
As for content, you won't learn much here. The actual film is 62 minutes and doesn't present much concrete evidence to advance the author's thesis. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish to imply that the author actually had a definitive or concrete thesis!
Anyway, I love learning and I also love learning about atheism. For this reason more than any other reason, I strongly recommend that you do NOT purchase this DVD. Instead, I recommend Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion," Sam Harris' "Letter to a Christian Nation," and Victor J. Stenger's "God The Failed Hypothesis." If you absolutely must get a DVD instead of a book, then purchase any season of the Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters," or Showtime's "Penn and Teller: Bullshit!" There are numerous episodes dealing specifically with religion(i.e. Creationism, the Bible, Exorcism, Alcoholics Anonymous...) in the latter.
It's just not a good documentary........2007-06-06
Let me start off by saying that I was a film major for several years, but I'm now majoring in both History and Theology, so I have adequate background to critique Flemming's work. In short, Flemming's film was just not very good. The background music was the best part of the whole thing. He made a lot of bald face claims without providing adequate proof. In fact, several times his claims are outright wrong or misleading.
Case in point:
"We used the earliest possible date for the Gospels." (70 A.D. for Mark, 80-90 A.D. for Matthew and Luke, 90-100 for John). In actuality, there are sufficent reasons to place Mark at 60 A.D. and Luke & Acts at about 65 A.D., Matthew at 70 A.D., and John between 70-90 A.D. (A GUIDE TO THE BIBLE by Antonio Fuentes, University of Navarre). Even if the latter dates are wrong, the fact that a fair amount of scholars argue for earlier dates, indicates that there are earlier possible, thus making his statement false. Flemming only uses the dates he uses because they make the skeptical argument more compeling.
Further, he blatantly misuses a quote of Jesus: "But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me." (Luke 19:27). Flemming presents it as a often overlooked quote of Jesus, without really explaining why. Well, in fact, the quote, in context, is placed within a parable of Jesus where a king Jesus is using as a metaphor gives the command of death. The parable is dipicting the justice of God against those who claim Faith to God, but don't act upon it, and the reward for those who hate him. He's not commanding Jihad. Remember, if you read the Bible like a fundamentalist, you'll get fundamentalist conclusions.
Besides those issues, Flemming's interviews range from the interesting to the out right irrelevant. In particular, the interviews with Sam Harris and Richard Carrier don't really add anything to the supposed topic at hand. Really, after the first third of the film, the documentary just becomes a "Christianity Sucks" flick. Again, with very little other than opinion.
If Flemming wanted to make the film truly groundbreaking, why not have a myriad of scholars provide truly critical analysis of the Jesus story. The only person in the film qualified in that department was Jesus Seminar Fellow, Robert Price. But he appears on screen for just a few soundbites. If anything, why not have Price and Earl Doherty, the "scholar" interviewed on the audio commentary, come on and really rip the Jesus story apart? Instead Flemming dismisses the Jesus story as false with little argument or evidence. FYI: Appeals to reason are not evidence!
All in all, this was a slick, yet poorly executed work that harkens to the cult hit "Loose Change." Though at least those guys had a compeling argument. Frankly, one would be better off watching the PBS Frontline documentary "From Jesus to Christ." It may not be perfect, but it's better than Flemming's.

Better than Re-Animator?.......2007-07-01
Yeah, I think so. Don't get me wrong; I love Gordon's previous film. But From Beyond really captures the feeling of Lovecraft -- although HPL would've been aghast at the erotic content. But that's why I think it's the perfect fright film for the Age of Aids: It deals with the horror of sexuality and the sexuality of horror. Anyway, it's about time we got a good DVD edition of the movie. Now, if somebody would just release The House That Screamed.....
I've waited a long time for this one!.......2007-06-28
Yahoo! It's about time. I'm one of those who periodically check to see if this is available on DVD yet. I hope they do it right, 'cause this is one of the classics. Don't miss it!
My long wait is finally over!.......2007-06-20
I have to agree with Mr. Honesty. I too have the Asian and German (bootleg??) versions, utter CRAP!
I love this movie and have been waiting for a decent print for years (I pray that this is one).
This is quite simply one of the best of its kind; they don't make movies like this anymore (unfortunately). Very imaginative, original and surreal with a touch of dark humor and kinky sex. Great special make-up and lighting effects (NO depthless CGI monsters here). If you liked "Re-animator", you'll love this. Buy it!
Thank you MGM. Finally!
FINALLY, love this movie.......2007-06-19
It is about time they released this gem on DVD, or at least, release a "real" USA version instead of the cheap version from China with the subtitles that would not GO AWAY. The guy selling the german bootlegs on amazon (you might have noticed his posting just above this one when you searched "from beyond") must be crying like a baby. I have searched for this movie for the past five years, like once or twice a month waiting for it to show up, and that german copy has been there for months now with fans like myself paying for a crap version.
Anyway, the point, another H.P. Lovecraft gem staring Jeff Combs and Barbara Crampton, both of which rocked in Re-animator, are back for another cool blood soaked romp. Other dimension worms, exploding heads, brain eating, and the best damn seduction scene ever (love ya barbara). What more could you want. The plot moves fast, the story is interesting, the special effects are cool, especially for the day, and once again Jeff and Barb bring humor, intensity, and a nice dash of naughty to this cult favorite
BUY it. not to be missed

Great entertainment.......2007-06-04
I have three kids, and two of them are Batman fanatics. They got a lot of viewing time from this set (and season one, as well). The graphics are good and the storylines are usually better than average for this genre. A good entertainment option.
Good, but less than seasons 1 & 3.......2007-05-27
Season 2 lacks some of the artistry found in season one, though it has inspired moments. "Earthmover" is a fantastic episode, and the music in "Sentries of the Last Cosmos" is awesome.
Only Slightly Less Impressive Than Its Predecessor.......2007-05-20
While others have stated (and quite correctly) that the second season of Batman Beyond pales in comparison to the superb first season set, the simple fact remains that Bruce Timm and company at their worst are till worlds better than most at their best. That said, season two is certainly a beautiful collection of the interesting worlds and characters that the first season built up so perfectly. The complaints typically come in two forms: The first is that we are treated to a much more intimate look into the high school life of Terry McGuiness. The second complaint is that Maxine Gibson enters the picture as a bit of a pseudo-sidekick.
While I fully agree that Maxine comes from left field, knows too much too quickly, and comes off as annoying in most instances, I will defend the show's creators in that they were wise not to make her a real sidekick (no costume, no gimmicks). The high school scenarios are far less painful than the former compliant and, in my opinion, actually do an admirable job of separating the Beyond series from the slightly darker/ more mature Batman: The Animated Series. While heading to class with Terry, we're treated to the foundation sagas of many of the show's staple villains but even more impressive, we're reminded of the responsibilities of being a teenage superhero.
In the DVD set extra "Inside Batman Beyond: The Panel" we discover that the network was responsible for requesting the additional high school environment and female lead character. All factors considering, the crew did a very respectable job in meeting the network's demands while keeping the core material faithful.
The four disc boxed set contains all of the original season two episodes and includes some very interesting extras to boot:
1. Splicers
2. Earth Mover
3. Joyride
4. Lost Soul
5. Hidden Agenda
6. Bloodsport
7. Once Burned

22. April Moon
23. Sentries of the Last Cosmos

I love this show!.......2007-05-16
This is one of my favorite cartoons of all time! I'm glad they released all of it finally! 26 episodes in this volume, all very good. The interviews with the creators are really good too. I definitely recommend this as well as seasons 1&3. Worth every penny.
Batman Beyond continues on!.......2007-02-20
Batman Beyond is a bright spot among superhero cartoons. Unfortunately, this second season isn't quite as good as the exceptional first season. Nonetheless, this is a great show, with top-noch animation and voice acting. If you've enjoyed the first season, defnitely pick this up. Batman Beyond is a fantastic show that anyone who likes cartoons and comics will enjoy.

While the primary lesson of Beyond the Gates of Splendor is about the power of Christian love, this extraordinary documentary transcends its missionary message with a universal tale of cultural exchange, murder, and the ultimate act of forgiveness. After establishing that the Waodani Indians in the Amazon basin of Ecuador had endured several generations of violent homicide among tribal neighbors, the film's central story begins to unfold: As American missionaries discover the Waodani in the mid-1950s, their Christian outreach goes smoothly until 1956, when lies and misunderstandings lead to the spear-killing of five of the missionary men whose wives and children--including narrator Steve Saint (whose father was among those killed)--responded to tragedy by living peacefully among the Waodani over the decades that followed. Through home-movie footage, photographs, and eyewitness accounts by American and Waodani alike, this incredible-but-true story of love and understanding unfolds with considerable power, urging the viewer to consider the meaning of this remarkable example of unified humanity. Is the missionary impulse a pure and beneficial one? Are the Waodani best left alone and ignorant of the wide world beyond their village? With deep tragedy, rich humor, and an overwhelming sense of compassion, writer/director Jim Hanon ponders these and other questions, hampered only by an overbearing score (by Ronald Owen) that's lushly beautiful at best, but too often maudlin, manipulative, and shamelessly heavy-handed. It's likely that Christian viewers will be most deeply affected by the film's thematic parallels to the lessons of Christ, but anyone with an ounce of compassion will be similarly moved and astonished. Not surprisingly, Hanon later dramatized the factual events of Beyond the Gates of Splendor in his 2006 feature film The End of the Spear. --Jeff Shannon
Description
"Beyond the Gates" is a feature length documentary film experience about the Waodani Indians and the missionary men and women who have given their lives to reach them. This powerful emotional journey begins with the Waodani describing their way of life before the missionaries visited them in 1956. Narrated by the son of one of the missionaries and each of the wives of the men who died, the audience takes a nostalgic trip back in time to see how the men and women came to meet up with each other in Ecuador. An inspiring story of forgiveness and love.
Customer Reviews:
Secularized presentation of a Christian story.......2007-05-09
This documentary assumes that you have seen the movie, or at least you know what it is all about. If you haven't, or you don't, then you will probably have some trouble following the dramatis personae of this drama. It starts in medias res, that is, there is no preparation or introduction. You have many Indians telling you pieces of the story, mentioning people's names that you don't have any idea who they are. Then come the missionaries (one assumes they are Christians, though this point wasn't made that explicit either) talking about such and such. By minute 30 I still didn't know who was who, or who was married to whom, etc. Very aggravating. I got the story alright. But the presentation is, I regret to say, very poor and disorganized.
I also agree with Michael M. Long (another reviewer) that this is practically a secularized account of a Christian missionary story. Disappointing.
A most secularized account of the lives of several 20th century missionaries.......2007-03-28
This was a most disappointing purchase. I know the historical account of the missionaries who went to Ecuador to reach out to the Waodani. This documentary gave a very, very secular account of what happened.
Gone from the documentary are any mentions of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (how can you have this possible in a documentary about how the Lord changed the lives of an entire tribe?). There is a tremendous gaping hole in what were the motivations of Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, and the other missionaries in going to Ecuador. There is absolutely nothing about their love for the Lord Jesus Christ and their desire to spread the gospel to an unreached people.
The gospel is not even mentioned through the documentary. At one point, the anthropologist interviewed mentions that the Waodani changed from their warring lifestyle because they were given 'new information' from the missionaries. What was this 'new information?' The documentary completely fails to mention that this was none other than the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that the entire tribe changed because they all got saved!
My 90+ minute DVD says it is an abridged version. Maybe this version somehow cut out all the references to the gospel and the Lord Jesus. I don't know.
In summary, this documentary completely fails to give God the glory He deserves.

You just can't deny the power behind this great book! Once you pick it up, you won't put it down. Steve is a strong man, along with the rest of his family. I thank God that he has dedicated his life to continuing the spreading of the gospel to all the tribes in South America.

Batman Beyond was the futuristic follow-up to the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series from the team of Paul Dini, Alan Burnett, Andrea Romano, and others (though less self-winking for comics fans than that series). High school kid Terry McGinnis's run-in with a biker gang called the Jokers leads to a chance encounter with a rich recluse named Bruce Wayne. McGinnis soon discovers that 20 years ago Wayne was Batman, but has since retired from active duty. Not getting any help from Wayne, McGinnis swipes the Bat suit--now tricked-up with enhanced strength, flight capability, and nifty gadgets--and sets out to right a wrong perpetrated by his father's former business partner, Derek Powers. Subsequent adventures in the 13-episode season deal with some teen hang-ups as well as supervillains, who are mostly new except for Bane and Mr. Freeze. Excellent voice work is by Will Friedle (McGinnis), Kevin Conroy (continuing his role from Batman: The Animated Series), Stockard Channing (as Commissioner Barbara Gordon), and guest stars including Star Trek's George Takei. --David Horiuchi

Great entertainment.......2007-06-04
I have three kids, and two of them are Batman fanatics. They got a lot of viewing time from this set (and season two, as well). The graphics are good and the storylines are usually better than average for this genre. A good entertainment option.
Batman Beyond RULES!.......2007-05-17
Batman Beyond is by far the best of all of the Batman Incarnations. The animation, characters, music, and storlines are all top-notch. It is sophisticated enough to satisfy an adult, and yet still appeal to a kid. Well worth the investment.
Absolutely awesome.......2007-05-17
A total fan of anything that comes from Bruce Timm and company, Batman Beyond is the series that fills in the gap between the Batman/ Superman Animated Series and the later Justice League works. While some argue that nothing compares to the original Batman the Animated Series in terms of writing, textures, themes, and overall quality; Batman Beyond probably comes about as close as it gets.
Not only to we get an interesting interpretation of the future, we get the continuity of Kevin Conroy again playing the role of (the now 50 year older) Bruce Wayne. We also get the dynamic of Bruce's legend incarnated into a new, younger form. With that comes the balancing act of a typical high school student dealing with all of the difficulties associated with being a teen with the additional stresses of being a masked hero by night.
All of this and the quality packaging of the Warner Brothers boxed set which means extras to enjoy and an affordable price. Very strongly recommended.
Try Batman is dead........2007-05-13
The worst idea the WB idiots ever did. Give a teenage punk kid a Batman suit and make him the new Batman. I think this was made by and for internet geeks, because only internet geeks could watch it. Then again the WB is now run by internet geeks, so why expect anything less.?!
Great series.......2007-05-09
This is a terrific series. If you enjoy animation and Batman, you will like this title. Don't be discouraged just because Bruce Wayne is not Batman.
