Excellent Film.... A real eye opener too. .......2006-02-16
The Sioux Nation produced many great leaders such as Crazy Horse, Red Cloud, Sitting Bull, and Russell Means. American Indian actor and activist Russell Means is a powerhouse and what he has to say is very upsetting, (You'll never see this on network television) but this man is one of the most gifted speakers I have ever heard, and I recommend this film to everyone who has an interest in Native Americans and what they are going through. Congressman Jim McDermott, who gained fame and notoriety from appearing in Michael Moore's movie Fahrenheit 911, offers real insight into what life is like for many American Indians who live on the reservations where they are isolated and alienated. The film reminded me of Incident at Oglala with Robert Redford in its style and visual composition. If you want to understand what life is like on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, then you should definitely see this film.
An astonishing look at the Native American Sioux.......2006-02-05
This documentary makes a powerful statement about hope and will inspire anyone who has faced discrimination and despair. Indian activist and actor Russell Mean's statements about 911 and the Twin Towers are shocking and disturbing, but his belief in the culture of the Lakota (Sioux) is powerful and moving. The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is like a third world country in many respects and watching this film gives you the sense of the desolation and isolation people living there must feel. It almost can be viewed as a mirror of what life could be like for many of us in the future as baby boomers age and the entitlement programs collapse. This film is a warning as a well as a statement of hope. What can we learn from the Sioux? I've been asking myself that question since I first watched this remarkable movie.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Movie.......2005-06-30
This movie is an excellent dramatization of the book and the events. So many movies about Native Americans end in 1890. This movie shows the life of a contemporary Native American girl/woman and the continuing Native American struggle for land, dignity, respect and human rights.
As Daniel White Hat said, "This isn't history. It's still with us."
An awakening movie that should be released on DVD!!!.......2004-12-04
This movie touches on more aspects of Native American struggles and suffering, both in the past and in the present, than any other movie that I have seen about Native Americans. Irene Bedard is wonderful as Mary Crow Dog. If you haven't seen this movie, please check it out. It will really raise your awareness about what Native Americans have been through and what many are still going through. It is really saddening that this movie has not been released on DVD yet. I hope that they decide to take that step someday soon.
Turn This Video Into DVD NOW !.......2004-09-22
This is a great movie about the American Indians and AIM taking over The Knee in 73.
I just wish those big wigs in the ivory towers at Turner Broadcasting would get around to transfering this great movie onto DVD.
Grrr
The Truth About The BIA.......2003-08-15
One of the best movies on Human Rights I have ever seen! It clearly showed injustices suffered at the hands of a few. GOONS doing drive by shootings on the Reservations! Stuff they don't tell you about in history books. Prior to this, I read Russell Means's autobiography, which also gives significant insite into the cruelness of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Both vividly depict the importance and need for AIM to protect the people. I feel this movie accurately portrays a history (and perhaps, present day) that we all should be aware of.
Moving Story from a Woman's Perspective.......2002-07-11
This is a good story that bears re-telling, as all stories of injustice do. The pacing is good and it doesn't get preachy...well not too preachy. The sad story of what misguided but probably well-intentioned Catholic missionary schools did to Native Americans is touched on. That could be a movie in itself. The hopelessness of life on the reservation is effectively shown, too.
Of course, the main story is the stand-off at Wounded Knee, and Mary's "hovering on the edge" presence is an interesting way to tell the story. Some male chauvinist attitudes are apparent among the leaders of AIM, but the more traditional Native American respect for the words of women asserts itself through Mary's and the other women's strong stand.
Irene Bedard gives an unself-conscious protrayal of Mary Crow Dog which effectively captures the viewer's empathy rather than sympathy. All the other actors give warm dignified protrayals that let the story speak for itself. An interesting unbilled appearance by Peter Weller as a straight-talking Army man provides some slightly comic relief. His short scene shows the smallness and mean spiritedness of the supposed upholders of the law. A good film to show in a class as material to spark a discussion of human rights.

Worth Watching.......2004-03-24
Wounded Hearts is definitely worth watching. I enjoyed it fully. It is a low budget film, but don't judge the movie by it's budget. The actors were unknown to me, but all delivered moving performances. Jay becomes a drunk after his pregnant wife is killed in an auto accident. His mother helps him to care for his young daughter. He loses his high paying job and resorts to driving a Taxi to make money. His brother-in-law owns a club which he showcases his jazz musician skills at here and there. He meets Lisa, who is in a relationship with a player. She gets tired of cancelled dates and his cheating. She decides to date Jay. The relationship is rocky because Jay is still dealing with the ghost of his deceased wife and this hinders him from becoming (...) involved with Lisa. The daughter also is jealous of her father's new relationship and does things to cause problems. There are enough twists and turns to keep the story moving along. It will hold your attention as you wait to see if love will blossom for Jay and Lisa as they try to overcome all of their obstacles.

This episode of A&E's Biography series calls itself Wounded Genius and tells the story of famed playwright Tennessee Williams as his early hurts mount with depressing rapidity: his hard-drinking man's man of a father taunted him for being a sissy; his mentally unstable, puritanical mother loved him, but controlled him; his older sister, companion and "soul mate," suffered a mental breakdown and was institutionalized for life while they were both still in their teens. This 50-minute video makes the case that his early years gave him the material for his meteoric rise to success in the worlds of stage and film, but also laid the groundwork for the personal problems that would eventually be his downfall. Many viewers may know Williams for his successful works, such as the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but this documentary also deals with his subsequent 20-year slide. His brother, biographers, and friends shed much light on his life, as do several television interviews of Williams himself. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Customer Reviews:
Big On The Drugs, A Bit Thin On The Plays.......2002-03-22
On this A & E video bio of Tennessee Williams, there's plenty of talk of his drinking and drug-taking and sleeping around. There's not much on the plays, just snippets of the highly salacious trailers (of the movies made from them), and almost no analysis. Few clips of Tennessee's wonderful interviews are included, except a snippet of the Davis Frost show when he walks on drunk and a few others.
Interviews with the playwights' brother Dakin, biographers Lyle Leverich and Donald Spoto, old friend and minor writer Donald Windham, actor Eli Wallach, actress Kim Hunter and a few others appear and try their best, but aren't allowed to say very much. Williams later-life problems are put down to drinking, and no mention is made of the tremendous pounding he took from the anti-gay press of his day, even at the top of his success in the fifties. Only Kim Hunter is allowed to say at the end of the tape that, since Tennessee's death, his later plays which were so roundly denounced in the American press (but not the European) are now finally getting their due.
There was a wonderful documentary that PBS put out a few years ago on its American Masters series that dealt with all these issues: the plays, the success, the hostility, and included interviews with admiring fellow-writers (Gore Vidal, Edward Albee) and actors who were allowed to say more about the plays (including Hunter again); A & E's bio is a rather superficial work by comparison. PBS should issue their bio as a tape/DVD; every Williams fan would buy it!

Not just the title is wounded in this movie..........2004-03-01
Sad to say, but this is far from as good a movie that the other reviews give the impression it is. Basically the story revolves around Julie, a female federal agent, who was part of a team tracking a bear poacher. They get wiped out, and only Julie survives because a biological quirk. The bulk of the movie deals with her psycological recovery, and slow build up to the final confrontation between Julie and the poacher. Unfortunately, the movie is almost devoid of suspense--it's just to predictable: especially the ending--and is marred by a poor screenplay. Only Graham Greene saves the movie from being a total disaster, but due to circumstances way beyond his control, even his performance isn't all that great. You'd have to be insane to buy this movie new at $65.
AMAZING.......2001-02-21
I saw this movie a while ago on HBO. It had one of the best plots ever. The hunter becomes the hunted. Justice, and Revenge, and a beautiful ending. Wish it would come out on DVD or cheaper on VHS. If you have the chance get this movie. Highly recommended.
Great Flick.......2000-05-29
Like many others, I saw this movie on a pay channel, and like many others, I really enjoyed it. The movie has breathtaking scenery and surprisingly good acting. If you want to see a good, enthralling, entertaining, survival movie watch this.
awesome.......2000-01-27
If you enjoy hunting this movie will knock your socks off. The hunter becomes the hunted. Five stars for Madchen Amick.
The movie is just fantastic; all of it........1999-09-05
The story line, the acting & the scenery -- amazing. I saw it on one of the pay channels a year ago and have been searching for it on-line ever since ... Finally it's available! :-) All of the actors -- Ms. Amick and Mr. Pasdar -- were really very good. Ms. Amick isn't a mindless bimbo actress with a gun. She's *so* believable. In short, she's a real professional.

The wounded vets deserve 5 stars for their resilience.......2007-04-04
This DVD of a 60minutes program about wounded vets trying to return to civilian life was interesting, however, it was disappointingly short. I thought 60 minutes was for 60 minutes, these are only 15 minutes long...what was left out??? When these are aired on t.v. do viewers watch 45 minutes of commercials? I also thought that they interviewed very resilient people with excellent support systems of family and friends, not all are so fortunate.
