5 out of 5 stars andy sidaris is back .......2006-01-07

if your like me you found out about andy sidaris movies thanks to cable t.v.! those after dark movies were great to a 12 year old. mr sadaris made action movies useing play mates and large amounts of nudity. this collection is 3rd of his to come out and i'm glad that there being traeted so well. not for the kids just the kids who never grew up. no deep meaning just action and big breasted playmates, what more could a growing boy want. enjoy. for plots , who cares just watch!

5 out of 5 stars Savage Beach.......2005-08-10

Arrived in good time. No problems. Picture is splendid. No problems what so ever!!!

4 out of 5 stars I sure wish Indiana had cops like these.......2004-04-30

Yeah, baby, this is the one you've been waiting for all your sexually frustrated life. "Savage Beach" was filmed in the lovely lakes of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In fact, Andy Sidaris cleverly disguised the location to look like some tropical island in the Caribbean. But don't be fooled, that's Fort Wayne you're looking at. Lastly, the hotties! The women are not from Fort Wayne--thank goodness. Silicon free, these women are 100% natural. "It takes a special hand to wield my gun..."-The dialog is just simply awesome.

3 out of 5 stars What you see is what you get!.......2003-09-26

Andy Sidaris! Guns and explosions! Random nudity! All-synonymous. I purchased this movie because it is the prequel to "Return to Savage Beach" which was, in my opinion, the best T&A movie that I have EVER seen up to this date. And if you don't know what T&A stands for than you are unfamiliar with the genre, and I therefore do NOT recommend ANY Andy Sidaris films to you. "Savage Beach" pales in comparisons when it comes to the babes in the movie. For bouncy silicone lovers, the sequel, Return to Savage Beach would definitely be a more satisfying choice. What you see on the cover is what you get with the original "Savage Beach." Two avergage looking blondes, scantily clad, packing serious heat. I give it 3 stars out of 5 because if you are even considering this film, than you're certainly not looking for much more than what you see on a cover. And in that case, this film does deliver, and even goes slightly beyond. It is cheesy (as expected) but comical. There is even something that ALMOST mildly resembles a plot, which was a surprising bonus to this film. "Savage Beach" is good for a B-rate, C-cup, Sidaris flick. But it does lack the much better looking, super double D-cup (and beyond), silicone laced, higer polished models featured in its sequel.

    "The Empty House"
Did Sherlock Holmes survive his apparent demise at the hands of Professor Moriarty in "The Final Problem"? Clearly so, as his resurrection three years later in this story is a dramatic and happy event--though it causes his old friend Dr. Watson (Edward Hardwicke) to faint at the sight of him. Jeremy Brett is outstanding as the famed sleuth, whose return from what Sherlockians call the Great Hiatus is challenged by one of Moriarty's most murderous lieutenants (Patrick Allen), already a killer on the run in London. The action is swift and exciting, and the colorful reentrance of Holmes into the life of Dr. Watson is a highly memorable event. With Rosalie Williams in a more extensive part than usual as the wonderful Mrs. Hudson, Holmes's Baker Street landlady.

    "The Abbey Grange"
"We have not yet met our Waterloo, Watson, but this is our Marengo, for it begins in defeat and ends in victory," says Sherlock Holmes, in the midst of a bloody mystery with significant moral and ethical implications. Holmes and Watson are summoned to the Abbey Grange, where Sir Eustace Brackenstall has been brutally murdered, apparently by a local gang of thieves. But the case proves much more complex, and ends with one of Holmes's rare but decisive and personal interpretations of justice. An early episode in the new onscreen association of Brett and Hardwicke (who ably replaced the departed David Burke), the two actors seem as perfectly meshed as their allied characters. This fine production is as enjoyable for the casual viewer as it is for the most dedicated Sherlockian. --Tom Keogh

    5 out of 5 stars Great Movies!.......2005-03-05

If you like the Jeremy Brett/Sherlock Holmes movies, you'll like this one! But I rather like David Burke better than Edward Hardwicke. Anyway, Holmes is DEFINITELY not gay. I don't know what crazy people thought of that, but they can rant all their life and it won't change the truth. Holmes was merely admiring the criminal's intelligence, almost matching his own. I thought you didn't want Holmes to be arrogant?

5 out of 5 stars We love it.......2004-06-04

With Sherlock Holmes dead at the Reichenbach Falls, Watson returns to his daily life. But, three years later, when Holmes suddenly appears in his examining room Watson receives the shock of his life. But, it's not time for happy reunions; Holmes is on the track of a major villain, and he is in need of his able assistant. Once again, the game is afoot!

Every once in a while, an actor comes along who not only plays the role of Sherlock Holmes, but actually redefines the role. In 1984, veteran actor Jeremy Brett (1933-95) actually did it yet again! This fifty-minute episode, the Empty House, was episode one of the third season, and originally aired on July 9, 1986. (By the way, if you like Jeremy Brett, you can see him in an entirely different role in My Fair Lady (1964) as Freddie Eynsford-Hill!)

I loved this tape and think that any fan of Sherlock Holmes, or just plain fan of mysteries, will love it, too. My family and I highly recommend it to you!

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD.......2003-08-16

These two stories may not be as involved as some contemporary mysteries involving modern forensics, but Holmes' use of rational deduction and the forensics of his time (late 19th Century) is grand. If you are a true mystery fan, this is the place to begin--and return to again. Conan Doyle was a superb story teller.

The first story involves Holmes reappearance following his reported death at the hand of his arch enemy. Conan Doyle "killed" his dectective because he was tired of writing Holmes serials for the newspaper, but Holmes fans were so outraged and heartbroken the author was forced to resurrect him.

This volume marks Holmes "return" following the notorious "fall" in the Alps only to find himself pursued by a crony of his dead arch enemy (Professor Moriarity). The second tale involves the death of the owner of the Abbey Grange--who did it? Was it his Australian wife, her nanny, or the three villans the wife says hit her and tied her to a chair. Holmes is back in fine form and the "game's afoot" he tells Watson. The film includes the live depiction of illustrations from the Sherlock Holmes books we read as kids.

The DVD version of these two Sherlock Holmes tales is excellent. I love the reenactment of past times where every detail is faithfully depicted down to the steam from the locomotive engines and being able to see the detail with clarity is a pleasure.

5 out of 5 stars Jeremy Brett is Sherlock Holmes.......2003-08-08

I am once again transfixed on my television and I have gleefully tossed out all my home tapes of the PBS series - they were horrible quality. What can I say...like a kid in a candy store..which episode do I watch next...were all life's problems so easy to deal with... I have most all of the old B&W ones in various 'collections' but...to me...there has been no Holmes like Mr. Brett. I would definitely recommend any and all of these episodes to EVERYONE!! A true 'must see'. Superb! I have them all up to date as far as I know but I am hoping for more releases.

5 out of 5 stars It's a touching tale of the reuniting of two friends.......2003-03-24

The tale of how two best friends, parted forever by death, comes to VHS. The movie startes out as Watson remembers his dearest friend, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. As Watson walks down Baker Street to 221B, brought tears to my eyes as he explains how much he misses Holmes. The case of the young Ronald Adair, is what brings Holmes from France. He did not die but just disapeared. He visits Watson at his consulting room, using his amazing disguises. Holmes and Watson travel to the 'Empty House' and waylay a vilian set out to kill Holmes. The old Hound is out of practice, but me is able to keep the assain busy until Scotland Yard comes. The reuniting of Holmes, Watson, Mrs. Hudson, and, of course, good old Inspectjor Lestrade is funny and yet touching. The detective, Sherlock Holmes is free to devote his life to solving the interesting problems of cat and mouse once more.

Volume 11 in the classic Star Trek series on DVD contains the delightful episode "Tomorrow Is Yesterday," a time-travel story with an infectious blend of suspense and humor. After dropping into a black hole, the Enterprise ends up orbiting the Earth in the late 1960s, and is spotted by U.S. Air Force Captain Christopher (Roger Perry), who happens to be flying by in his jet. Inadvertently giving poor Christopher an unwanted glimpse into the future, and wrecking his jet with an overpowering tractor beam, Capt. Kirk (William Shatner), not having a good day, beams him aboard the Federation starship. The collision of sensibilities and reference points between characters born several centuries apart has a fresh, urgent tone that subsequent Star Trek series have never captured (though Deep Space Nine came close with its dazzling episode "Trials and Tribble-ations"). The problem, of course, is what to do about Christopher now that he knows what he knows, and history demands that he stay put in his own world: the pilot's unborn son, it seems, will one day make a space flight of historic importance. Terrifically entertaining and something of a precedent-setter for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (the theatrical feature set in contemporary San Francisco), "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" is Trek at its best.

Also on this disc is "Return of the Archons," a cautionary story about mind control written by Gene Roddenberry. The tale begins when Ensign Sulu (George Takei) is taken hostage on an Earth-like planet with a primitive culture. Zapped by a weapon that leaves him under the control of someone or something named Landru, Sulu is then pursued by Kirk and Spock (Leonard Nimoy), who discover that Landru has the same grip on everyone else. Once Landru becomes aware of efforts by the captain and first officer to interfere with its bidding, Kirk and Spock become the target of a massive hunt by locals. A minor episode with a somewhat obvious scenario, "Return of the Archons" does have novel appeal in its heightened role for the ever-charming Sulu, and in Roddenberry's characteristically humane interest in elements that make people (and intelligent aliens) everywhere free to fulfill their destinies. The solution to the who-is-Landru mystery won't surprise anyone, but it may strike you as a prototype of several future episodes, from all the Trek series, involving centralized caretaking on various planets. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars One Good Ep and One Weak One!.......2006-07-31

On the strength of the first ep, I'm giving this one 3 stars. In this the first full ep with a time travel theme, we have an amusing story of the Enterprise getting inadvertantly thrown back into time to arrive at Earth in the 1960s. The acting by the guest stars is quite good and overall, the storyline is quite absorbing with a number of humorous bits thrown in.

The theme of the second ep though seems to be a recurring one which keeps cropping up in many guises such as in "What are Little Girls Made of" and in "The Apple" later where we get machines running the lives of people although with good intentions. I just didn't seem to be as insightful and original an ep to me and so it just rates as average.

Overall, I'd say this is a good volume to borrow but is not really one you'd go all out to keep. If you are picking and choosing your volumes to collect, you'd probably not miss this one not being in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars One Of My Favorites.......2004-03-10

Tomorrow Is Yesterday is one of the best time-travel episodes in all of Trek. It follows all the warnings and some of the potential benfits any time travel story has to reckonize. Too bad they didn't make it the second half of a two-parter along with The Naked Now. I have to give credit where it's due. Leonard Nimoy made this point back on the Sci-Fi Channels Star Trek: Special Edition (back in '99 I think). Anyway, I never forgot the connection of two great stories.

Maybe Return Of The Archons isn't near the top of anybody else's list but I think it's underrated. The story takes on a great number of ideas, from "arrested society" to "technological domination". Despite its flaws it tells a good story. My favorite gaff is the feeling of discontinuity, or was it bad editing?

I always saw this episode as a 'Spock like computer' forcing its' logic on the 'emotional inhabitants' who probably would have destroyed themselves otherwise. This to me explains the 6:00 pm mayhem of the people and shows one of the flaws in machines ruling mankind (machines expecting humans to behave like machines). Remember this the next time you find yourself at a drive-thru ATM. Who's the boss?

    5 out of 5 stars dvd order.......2004-03-09

Great! Would buy from this seller again, rec'd order in reasonable time.

3 out of 5 stars Two solid episodes.......2003-09-11

Tomorrow is Yesterday-The first of the contemporary earth episodes is a solid offering about a USAF pilot who ends up aboard the Enterprise. One might be forgiven for not realizing they were watching Star Trek here; the Enterprise doesn't show up until the end of this unusual teaser. This episode explores the trappings of time travel, with every effort the crew makes at not altering the future invariably leading to more modification of the future. If the questions of logic posed by the above aren't taken to seriously (they shouldn't be, in my opinion) this episode is watchable enough. The strongest aspects of this show are the humor behind the cultural (temporal?) differences and a fallible Kirk. In truth though, not that much happens here, and the contemporary Earth idea isn't too interesting 36 years later after the fact. (3 stars)

The Return of the Archons-This creepy if hokey episode concerns cloaked figures and a zombie-like populace. This show isn't particularly thoughtful for a first season episode, and the ending in particular is very unoriginal and disconnected from the rest of the show. The first half of the episode certainly packs enough mystery though, with the creepy creatures and music, as well as the Jeckyl-Hyde aspect of the population. Sulu also has one of his larger roles here. (3 stars)

    4 out of 5 stars Yesterday & Return.......2003-06-15

"Tomorrow Is Yesterday" The Enterprise is thrown back in time to the 20th century. How will they get back to their own time?

"Return of the Archons" A computer is ruling a planet & forcing the people to behave strangely. How will it be stopped?

    "The Second Stain"
Arguably the most entertaining and satisfying episode from the entire Granada Television series about Sherlock Holmes, "The Second Stain" finds Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous sleuth facing intertwining problems, each with very different consequences. On the one hand, a saber-rattling letter to the British government from a "foreign potentate" has disappeared from the hands of the Rt. Honorable Trelawney Hope (Stuart Wilson), which could incite a major war if it turns up in some visible way. On the other hand, Hope's wife, Lady Hilda (Patricia Hodge), appears to know something about the letter's disposition, but she won't say on pain of some undefined disaster to her marriage. Holmes (Jeremy Brett in his finest hour) and Dr. Watson (a wonderful performance by Edward Hardwicke) can't unravel one mystery without tackling the other, and then there is a murder to boot. The results are well worth the story complications that ensue. The look of epiphany on Brett's face when the ever-clueless Inspector Lestrade (Colin Jeavons) tells Holmes about an odd detail in the murder victim's home--the placement of a certain bloodstained rug doesn't correspond to the location of the soaked-through stain on the floor below--is enormous fun.

    "The Six Napoleons"
Yup, that is Counselor Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation, looking particularly glum in this episode from Granada Television's Sherlock Holmes series. Troi--or rather actress Marina Sirtis--is part of the cast of this wild mystery, which suggests that a madman with a grudge against Napoleon Bonaparte is smashing clay busts of his likeness all over London. Dr. Watson proposes that the criminal has a psychological obsession, but Holmes scoffs at that idea. There is indeed much more going on than meets the eye in this story, as plainly evidenced when a notorious Mafia figure turns up dead. Meanwhile, anyone in possession of ornamental Bonapartes is in danger--and only Holmes knows why. This exciting installment in the series is also noteworthy for its rare glimpse of a softer side of Holmes, as seen in a memorable coda to the story. Brett is brilliant as the famed sleuth. --Tom Keogh

    Description

THE SECOND STAIN: A secret letter is stolen from the house of the Secretary of European Affairs. It is feared that the contents to the letter could cause a "great war" by falling into the wrong hands, and Holmes and Watson are called in to get the letter back. But when the person Holmes suspects of stealing the letter is found murdered, the great detective is led into a tangled web of international intrigue. THE SIX NAPOLEONS: Busts of Napoleon are being found smashed to bits all over London. Holmes and Watson are asked to investigate the bizarre events, and a murder that may be related. Is it the work of a madman who still harbors hatred for the dead emperor, or perhaps the work of the Mafia? The case takes the famous sleuth on a chase to find a killer, and to solve the mystery before all six Napoleon statues are destroyed.

5 out of 5 stars Jeremy Brett -- enough said.......2005-08-25

If you have already seen any of the Holmes mysteries starring this wonderful actor, you need not read further. Purchase this one as well. If you haven't yet seen them, this is a great place to start. Brett could do more with a twist of lip or shift of an eyebrow than other actors can with their entire body. He was not only the best Holmes ever, but one of the best actors in the world (IMO).

    "The Devil's Foot"
One of the most interesting stories in the Sherlock Holmes canon, "The Devil's Foot" finds the Great Detective's friend and ally, Dr. Watson (Edward Hardwicke), pressuring the exhausted sleuth (Jeremy Brett) into joining him on a vacation on the Cornish coast. Instead of relaxation, however, Holmes and Watson encounter one of the most horrifying multiple murders they have yet come across. Though our heroes nearly die from Holmes's effort to prove the cause of death, they carry on until Holmes finally unmasks the identity of the culprits--and then makes a controversial decision about the fate of one. Brett and Hardwicke excel as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous team, who are under more duress than usual in this fascinating tale.

    "Silver Blaze"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle caught a fair amount of flak for getting a lot of details wrong in this story about the training and racing of horses. Nevertheless, it is one of his most popular yarns and makes a fine basis for this vigorous 1988 episode from the Granada Television series about Sherlock Holmes. The Great Detective and Dr. Watson hurry to Devonshire, following the murder of a trainer and the disappearance of Silver Blaze, a swift horse heavily favored to win the big-money Wessex Cup. Holmes takes some snarly barbs from Blaze's rich owner in stride--though he has his revenge on the arrogant fellow later. The mystery is a keen one and the solution is among Doyle's most inventive. Brett and Hardwicke are at their best as the dynamic duo.

    "The Bruce Partington Plans"
A junior clerk working for Britain's defense planning dashes off in the middle of a date with his fiancée, and turns up dead along some railroad tracks--apparently having been pushed from a train while carrying several secret documents related to England's development of a submarine warship. Was he a traitor? If so, who killed him? The case is brought to the attention of Sherlock Holmes and his Dr. Watson, by none other than Mycroft Holmes (Charles Gray), brother of the Great Detective and indispensable repository of government business. Sherlock's conclusions, however, prove there is more to the truth than meets the eye. Brett, as always, is the perfect Holmes while Hardwicke is the ideal Watson for the latter years of their crime-fighting career. A strong story with some of the sleuth's most impressive investigatory work, "The Bruce-Partington Plans" is a worthy part of the long-running Granada Television series, based on Arthur Conan Doyle's famous character. --Tom Keogh

    Description

    VOL. 4
    THE DEVIL'S FOOT

But there is no rest for the detective when a young woman is found dead, but has no apparent injuries. In addition, her two brothers have become raving lunatics overnight. Holmes and Watson investigate.

    SILVER BLAZE
Silver Blaze, a highly prized racehorse, disappears the night before a big race. The horse's trainer is found dead and his owner faces ruin. Sherlock Holmes, with the aid of a dog and some sheep, finds a strange solution.

    THE BRUCE PARTINGTON PLANS
A young man is found brutally beaten and murdered on a railway line leading from the Underground. Strange plans of a secret submarine are found in his pocket. Is he a hero or a traitor? Aided and abetted by the master detective's brother Mycroft, Holmes and Watson follow a trail through fog-shrouded London to find the truth, and the murderer.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Definitive Holmes.......2006-02-24

Brett and Hardwicke are the best. These episodes are not the best but you've got the whole set.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Holmes, excellent television..........2003-06-07

These three Holmes episodes are a good variety of Holmes stories, and possibly might be the best DVD for the starting Holmes viewer. Brett and Hardwicke make the best Holmes/Watson ever seen on screen. The adaption of the Conan Doyle stories to TV work perfectly and are some of the best written, directed and acted television made yet.

Particularly memorable are the drug sequences in Devil's Foot, along with the story's very odd and lucid atmosphere. Bruce Partington is one of the best episodes since it has brilliant interaction between Sherlock, Holmes, Mycroft, and Mrs. Hudson, Sherlock's ever working, ever chiding house keeper. This story based around stolen plans for a top secret submarine puts Holmes through his greatest odds against a case with a thinnest thread to begin. And it is also the case with the greatest political conseqences for the world. It seems everytime the highest level of government calls on Holmes he winds up going to the furthest extreme, such as the cat burglery he commits in this episode. Arthur Conan Doyle's writing plays on so many levels and in Bruce Partington it is particularly adept because he writes about the arms race and balance of power in Europe that would eventually snap into World War One. His stories of Holmes also persevere because of the underlying optimism of his Britain; he writes the main criminals as generally rich and priviledged while the average man might be grubby, unrefined and ignorant, is extremely loyal and hardworking. It is no doubt why these are classic literature, and now classic television.

    "The Priory School"
One of the most interesting stories from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes canon makes for a particularly taut and exciting episode in the Granada Television series about the famous detective. Holmes (the outstanding Jeremy Brett) and Dr. Watson (Edward Hardwicke) are summoned by the desperate founder of an exclusive prep school for boys to locate the missing son of a duke. The investigation uncovers a nefarious plot, and the major clue (a controversial one at the time Doyle wrote the story) involves nothing more than the direction of bicycle tracks. The suspense never lets up in this excellent program, and Brett and Hardwicke are at their best.

    "Wisteria Lodge"
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are drawn into the investigation of the murder of Garcia (Arturo Venegas), for which Scott Eccles (Donald Churchill), a guest of Garcia's at Wisteria Lodge, has been arrested--possibly mistakenly. An extreme rarity in the Holmes canon, a policeman of real competence named Inspector Baynes (Freddie Jones), is also on the case, making this tale all the more interesting for Holmes fans interested in comparing and contrasting investigative styles. Brett and Hardwicke, as always, are exceptionally good as the Great Detective and his famous ally. --Tom Keogh

    Description

WISTERIA LODGE: Mr. Scott Eccles, a guest of Mr. Aloysius Garcia of Wisteria Lodge, awakens to find his host, the footman and the cook all had vanished in the night! THE PRIORY SCHOOL: The son of the wealthy Duke of Holdernesse is kidnapped from his preparatory school. Holmes and Watson are asked to investigate, but the trail is cold and the boy seems to have vanished. A search of the surrounding moor uncovers surprising evidence that leads the famous sleuth to the trail of the missing boy, and a murderer.

5 out of 5 stars Capital portrayal of the famous consulting detective!.......2003-08-17

While neither installment on this DVD really showcases Holmes' abilities, they are both very well drawn portraits of the man. Both Holmes and Watson are in good form here, and Brett and Hardwicke are solidly in character.

"The Priory School" shows us an interesting case of kidnapping, although in my opinion they reveal who the villain is a bit too soon. Excellent use of locations and the fascinating use of a school choir in the soundtrack make this a satisfying episode.

If one has an interest in learning the art of cinematography, you couldn't choose a better place to start than by studying the excellent work on display in "Wisteria Lodge". Director Peter Hammond, cinematographer David Odd, and production designer Tim Wilding truly excelled in the spectacular use of shadows, colored lighting, and the subtle placement of mirrors throughout the episode. Mirrors pop up in odd places throughout the Granada series, but never more so than in "Wisteria Lodge". The misty, frosty countryside is also nicely photographed here.

The idea that a simple country police inspector can rival Holmes' insight puts a new twist on the case that is unusual in the canon.

For those not yet familiar with the Granada series, you may first want to check out some of the earlier installments in "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". However, while not famous cases like "The Red-Headed League," both installments on this disc deserve a spot in your collection.

Although some prefer the japanese edition, I do not. I watch Sailor Moon with my three year old and she adores it. If I want to watch sailor moon by myself I watch the japanese edition because I do not feel that it's appropriate for younger children. This is a great dvd and the episodes will keep your little moonie on the edge of their seat. And who can help but laugh at serena and ann's fruitless attempts to capture darien's heart. I would recommend this for any fan of the english dub. Your collection isn't complete without it. =)

"Detention Doldrums" - Serena discovers a whole new side to Anne when they are both get detention.

"Secret Garden" - Serena decides to investigate the strange plant that is growing in Alan's room.

"Treed" - Serena and the Scouts finally confront Alan and Anne about the Doom Tree.

"Serena Times Two" - Serena is being followed by a strange little girl with pink hair by the name of Rini...

SAILOR MOON fans will love this collection of episodes.

5 out of 5 stars Better on VHS.......2003-07-16

Unfortunately, for Sailor Moon fans, the manufacturers have completely messed around with the originally amazing Sailor Moon series. Certain episodes like Serena Times Two doesn't belong on The Doom Tree Series. The VHS version is much better because it follows the original format. In my opinion though, The Doom Tree Series was the best series out of Sailor Moon.

5 out of 5 stars great to watch.......2003-06-09

    "The Musgrave Ritual"
Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) and Dr. John Watson (Edward Hardwicke) are brought to Hurlstone Manor by Reginald Musgrave (Michael Culver) to look into the disappearance of his butler, Brunton (James Hazeldine). Various clues (a crumpled piece of paper, a brass key, a peg of wood with string attached) suggest that Brunton's disappearance is somehow related to the "Musgrave ritual," an arcane practice compelling young Musgrave family members to recite an odd riddle that might have to do with buried treasure. Holmes's methodical approach to the problem is a lot of fun, and Brett and Hardwicke seem to be having a particularly good time outdoors, pursuing the solution under a bit of sunshine. Jeremy Paul, who adapted Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story for this teledrama, won an Edgar Award for his script.

"The Man with the Twisted Lip"
One of the most ingenious of the Sherlock Holmes stories, "The Man with the Twisted Lip" presents the famous detective with one of his strangest cases. A gentleman named Neville St. Clair (Clive Francis) is missing, after having been briefly seen (looking quite agitated) by his wife (Eleanor David) in an upstairs window of a disreputable pub. Upon investigating, Mrs. St. Clair can only find traces of blood in the location; later, her husband's coat, mysteriously stuffed with pennies, turns up on a mud bank. Police have detained a notorious street beggar on suspicion of foul play, but Holmes and Dr. Watson believe there is more to the case than meets the eye. This highly enjoyable installment from the long-running Granada Television series is satisfying from beginning to end, with a witty conclusion and unexpected moral about class pressures. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Tension Builds, More Questions and Everyone is starting to 'shine'.........2006-07-24

Here we go...another DVD that delivers the angst & the antics from the crew of Kaleido Stage. So I thought I'd give it a shot and give my take on Vol. 4...with slight spoilers.

    1. Amazing & Sad Homecoming...

This episode had me surprised because I wasn't sure how interesting it would be with Sora gone from the Kaleido Stage, but it was well thought out, even the presence of Ken & Mr. Policeman didn't damper the mood.

My impression of it was...a very mature theme and Sora's friend, Manami, was definitely the adult & the voice of reason.

Another thing that struck me was the fact Sora had....OTHER friends. You get SO used to the folks at Kaleido Stage, you forget that Sora had a life before it.

    2. My Amazing Fresh Start...or Sora starts over.

Sora has come back and she's back to square one...and she ain't getting paid. *blah*

But, at least, she knows what she's aiming for FINALLY and watching her work with the crew of KS...well she's energetic to say the least, but she misses the stage.

One thing that surprised me is how much her 'rival'...aka May...ACTUALLY missed her. It seems May doesn't have ANY type of steam in her performance unless Sora is there [..to me that's sad..].

One of the funny moments is when May sees Sora for the first time and starts giving her a piece of her mind! Problem is NO one can understand what she is saying. :-)

One of the eyebrow-lifting moments is that Leon missed Sora too, but he doesn't say it. As for Leon, I've heard/read that there is a creepy moment that deals with Leon in this episode..and they're right.

Leon has FINALLY made the connection of what it is about Sora that draws him to her, it's the fact she reminds him of Sophie and therefore, he now knows without a doubt she IS the one who is to be his partner.

Unfortunately, the normally cold & stoic Leon begins to see ONLY Sophie in Sora and that causes the wall that he built around him to crack and the past & present collides for him.

In the tagline, when they say he forms a dangerous bond with Sora, it turns out dangerous for him.

On a lighter side note..and call me a 'closet-romantic', there was one scene [...which I've seen represented on most KS websites, now I know why...] when unknown to Sora, Leon is watching her and who comes out looking for him wearing an itty-bitty outfit [fanservice, guys] our dear May, but he isn't paying her NO mind and it just puzzles tha' hell out her. Hah!

    3. An Amazing, Humiliating Performance...

Okay, let's just talk about the scene that stood out in the whole episode...the Romeo & Juliet performance.

May has been told off repeatedly by Cathy [...remember her...] that her performance sucks, in a nutshell. So on the night of another performance, May is still not giving it her all. NO feeling of romance on stage, kids.

In the middle of the performance, Leon remembers Sora saying to him that she would be doing the props for flowers during the performance.

Leon, who I dub 'Mr.-Take-Charge-of-the-Situation', stops in the middle of the performance, CLIMBS up the trapeze to the rafters where Sora is, proceeds to do a freefall WITH Sora to a trapeze, and MAKES her perform. You gotta see it.

May, who can be kinda narrow-minded, thinks here's a chance to compete with Sora. Leon just desires to perform with her.

One of the moments that had me saying 'what tha' h--!!!' is during the free-for-all between them, Leon & Sora fly towards each other to the same trapeze, Leon gets there first, moves it and...you gotta get the DVD to see the rest but it was cool. :-)

Unfortunately, Leon has a Sophie-moment during this and it proves fatal for him..and I thought people were trippin' when they said he fell, but no..and it was uncomfortable to see that happen to the Pegasus.

    Moving on.

    4. Mr. Policeman's Amazing Proposal...
*sigh* Can I just say I prefer Mr. Policeman in small doses? But this honestly was a sweet moment for him especially in the end and the antics of the KS crew was silly as usual as they tried to hook Ken up with Sora. Do I HAVE to say it didn't work?

No offense to Ken supporters, but the poor guy has a relationship to a jellyfish. THEREFORE I cannot see those two hooking up no matter WHAT people try to say.

The ending was cool with Sora doing these awesome moves for a bank robber who questioned the abilities of the Kaleido Stage performers and Mr. Policeman asking the question that makes men sweat.

    5. Launching an Amazing Smile...

*sigh* Leon is still out of commission for the month. So what happens now?

Weelll...May decides she wants special training from Layla, which turns out to be funny because Layla, with Cathy, are TRYING to teach May...to smile and the results are PAINFUL.

Anna is FINALLY coming into her own with her comedy act, check out her 'Caterpillar' routine, I thought it was too cute.

In the meantime, Kalos & Mr. Kenneth are up to something that involves Leon being the answer they're looking for, especially when it comes to Sora.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kenneth has our KS crew doing a promotion/performance at a car show for him and May who is intently watching Sora...finally gets it. She figures out the importance of a smile and how to make it happen, sorta.

One of the moments I liked in this episode is nothing spectacular, but a simple scene where Sora visits Leon in the hospital. To me, it was a key moment [...more than any other...] because you see that Sora is no longer afraid of Leon.

Sora had questioned about what happened to Sophie, but Leon is not in the mood to speak about it...yet. So, Sora, in true form, chooses to talk about the Motor Show in 'all-out babble' fashion Sora-style and the look Leon gives her while she's 'talking' is priceless because he doesn't know what to make of her.

..and that's enough for now until the next TWO months.
